Honestly there is a huge piece of emotion between som and father. In the movie it showed that they didn't really get along but you can tell that the look of his father gives him is caring and that he'd do anything to protect Legolas.
Both of these charactors are amazing warriors. Just with different styles. Legolas is the young showboating acrobat. Thranduil is the very old, very experienced and highly skilled elder (probably taught Legolas everything he knows about fighting). Both are strong, fast and smart. I always thought that Jackson missed a great opportunity for some super action by not putting these two together fighting Orcs. edit: I think that Legolas recognized that his Dad could beat him in a fight. When he stops Thranduil when he goes of on Tauriel, he says "If you hurt her you'll have to kill me." Which to me is an admission that if Legolas has to fight him, Thranduil could kill him. But then, I never thought for a moment that Thranduil would have hurt Tauriel. If he meant to hurt her, he could have done that when he used his sword to break her bow.
I think sent legolas is younger in a fight legolas being young would be faster.But thraduil beginning experience would be a us to advantage. But I think that legolas as a uper hand. I don't think that thraduil from the beginning did not want to the her. Legolas seid that for 600 years my father protected you. But the biggest question for me is how old is legolas.?

This is a wonderful...I realized both Father and Son had expressions that were not human like, as if they were able to see over a span of time and events at will. Every consideration spanned epics of time, depths of discernment all the others did not understand. Elves are truly distinctive and thus my favorite characters.
