Right now my weapon of choice is a Pigtronix Echolution 3. Still on the learning curve but so far loving it. Has lot of control possibilities and the fullness of an analog delay and the clarity of a digital . Very nice unit
Strymon Timeline or Free the Tone Future Factory or both together!! I love knowing the Milliseconds or BPM and was a Very Important Feature. with that said, the sounds from these two delays are absolutely amazing. Have a Great Day and Reverb before Delay!!
Genius way of comparing pedals by not showing which you are playing and then showing how similar they are till you can start to hear a difference on your own. Thank you, more of this type of videos please.
I could tell which one was the 3000 when you kicked in the modulation because of that pitch drift. To be fair I’ve had a pair of real 3000As for a few years now.
Got my best Sunday Headphones on for this one. Thanks for doing the comparison. Some weird phasey stuff going on in the SDE-3000 pedal's modulation. DIG wins for sound but the SDE-3000 pedal UI is awesome. DIG needs a millisecond / BPM display.
There are no losers here, both units sound amazing. It would be great to see you do some demos of the Empress Echosystem and Reverb as I reckon you'd enjoy both of them.
Sounds great 12:35 time stamp reminds me of the MXR 126 flangerDoubler . I have the sde3000 arriving this morning. I like delay in the mix and dual stereo just can’t resist
Glad they are close. I’m waiting on my sde3000 Evh pedal. The H90 gets delivered tomorrow 🙂. Luv Strymon, have the Lex v2, getting the Flint v2 (again 🤦🏼♂️ replaced it with a SA True Spring) and getting the deco. I’ve had a bunch of Strymon but went through a phase and sold off most my pedals for Axe Fx or Helix. Now I’m building my dream board 😎😂
Hey man, went with the SDE... EVH version for some of the extras, direct dry through (I don't actually know if it's analog but whatever, it's going in a parallel loop), and built in ground lift adapters. Thanks for covering this as it helped thinking on the investment. Hope you are enjoying hanging out with the tricksy hobitses. Best, D
Yup i picked up on the SDE adding a wider aspect to the sound. Thats one thing about the gear from the 80s it would subtly change the sound/tone on top of whatever the effect is. Ex: sweet child o mines tone doesnt sound close unless you play it with an SRV 2000, same thing with EVH's music unless you play it with an SDE 3000.
If you want the best sound then nothing is gonna compete against the sde. Maybe there are better delay processors but they still can't compete against the final output sound. The catch is that 1 out of 5,000 will actually use the sde in this manner. When you have 3 decent amps/cabs and use the wet/dry/wet then no other delay will come close on the sound that enters your ears.
I spent years acquiring a level of skill to play my instrument and compose tunes. I feel if my song is a painting on a canvas that an effect can be the frame around that painting. Both these pedals and even more so are the ambient reverbs, demand that they be the painting. These pedals insist that you rewrite the tune to please them. In short these pedals are the tail wagging the dog. A simple classic style analog delay contently frames your tune. You need nothing more. I recommend the NUX Re-issue Series Analog Delay which is their take on the old Ibanez AD-80. It even uses the same Panasonic BDD chips. Best of all it is only $60.00 USD. It is so pleasant and unobtrusive I use it as an always on pedal like you use a spring reverb in an amp.
@@LeonTodd Oh cool! Yeah, it's like a tradeoff between that and precision versus discovery and stunning sound design. If Strymon follows through on their new software and UI, to organise presets and take advantage of the V2.0 midi stuff, it'll be pretty awesome. That said, the Boss unit is pretty cool.
That’s really not a fair comparison Strymon has way more processing power in their big pedals you should do a comparison with SDE and Strymon Timeline That would be a perfect comparison
Hi Randall. The Strymon DIG actually has more dedicated processing power designed to perform the singular task of recreating the sound of the Roland SDE-3000 and Delta Lab Effectron digital delay, which the DIG was modeled after. The Strymon Timeline's "DIGITAL" delay program has a darker sound that is unlike the tonal response of 1980's and 1990's rack unit delay processors. The Strymon Timeline's "DIGITAL" delay program was heavily influenced by the success of the Damage Control Timeline pedal's delay voicing which was meant to be a hybrid - a digital delay with an analog style voiced high frequency roll off. The Damage Control Timeline was the predecessor to the Strymon Timeline, from the same designer, Pete Celi.
What's your grab and go delay pedal?
Eventide Rose.
I own a DIG, but the Rose kicked it off my main board.
@@oldnikix the Rose is so underrated. Closest thing to a PCM42 in a pedal

I've had and enjoyed the DIG for years. Buddy got the EVH yesterday. It's deep, and sounds wonderful. Brilliant pedal. I can see myself grabbing one.
That Boss is the most interesting pedal since the rack days of the 80-ties and 90-ties.
I sold my DD 500 to purchase the EVH delay mainly for the wet/dry/wet routing, the EVH pedal is fantastic.
So handy hey!
I was in too much pain to get into the comparison, but thanks for the lovely sounds all the same.

Yeah Strymon stuff has a way of drawing you back in :D Enjoy the H90!
Boss are doing my head in. I was pretty set on getting the RE202 but then the DM101 came out and now the SDE3000. I am torn between the latter two!

Boss SDE-3000 vs Boss DD-500 on SDE-3000 setting. You know you want to!
i have just 15 w head and 2x12 cabinets will this delay would make work for me or i need what to get those sounds ?
Hey Leon. How do you think the Future Factory would compare to these two? I'm on the hunt for the ultimate 80's delay.
Yeah that's the other really cool one. It kinda falls in between these two when it comes to features.
First! Greetings from Greece!!! Great units! Would be happy to own either one of them!
Thanks for watching! They both sound pretty great hey?
@@LeonTodd they surely do! Thank you for the great content once again Leon!
ok so if one was to use these in parallel, which one has the most hifi, headroomy rack like sound?
Sick eye glasses 👓
The boss has access to presets without buying a midi switcher, the boss wins.

The DIG is more capable as a dual delay than the Timeline. Timeline can't do stereo ping pong or golden ratio for example.
