Sept. 30, 2019 | Bobby Carter -- The line of NPR staffers waiting to see the Jonas Brothers' Tiny Desk concert began forming four hours before the scheduled performance. Well aware of the actual start time, my colleagues sat patiently on the floor, working on their laptops with coffee in hand. By the time Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas entered the building to chat with Michel Martin - and eventually make their way up to the Tiny Desk - the building was buzzing.
As the trio approached the desk, they were immediately drawn to the knickknacks and toy instruments scattered throughout the area. They ended up working them into their performance, adding a little childlike flair to three selections from their latest album, Happiness Begins, including "Only Human" and a jazzy rework of "Sucker."
It turns out the date of the performance was also Joe's birthday, so our video producer (and proud Joe-Bro fan), Morgan Noelle Smith brought a cake, and the large crowd serenaded him with "Happy Birthday."
The Jonas Brothers announced their reunion in February after a six-year hiatus and soon dropped a new single, "Sucker," which debuted at number one of the Billboard Hot 100. It was the group's first number one. During their time apart, Kevin focused on family, Nick went solo and Joe formed the band DNCE. But watching their joyful and often playful set at the Tiny Desk, it was clear all the chemistry remains alive and well.

My inner child wanted them to do “Burnin Up” 😭
same here
Right I demand a do over...My inner child was expecting "burning up", "love bug", and "Year 3000" 😩😡
yessss. That song is still on my phone, when it plays I'm like ugh why is this still on here? But I would be happy for nostalgia's sake if they played it. lol
Ricardo Hernández kinda, I’m 22
@@NinaMosley7 I knew we had to be similar in age to both be wanting to hear those songs lol. I'm 22 as well and was ready to sing every word to Year 3000.
ok but the way the pianist freaking caresses those keys >>>>>>>
ayitsabby omg tysm for commenting this 😭💕
Hes keeping these brothers alive
HAHAHAHAHA freaking died of laughter with your comment
yeah the first time he played was really off haha
He reminds me of Joe Gardner from Soul
Nick & Kevin: Let play guitars!
Joe: I got this baby's toy at walgreens I want to use
Hahahha it says in the video description that they were enthralled by all the knick knacks in the room. So he literally found this toy and used it on a whim 😂
Jacquelle Rowell 😂
😂😂
hahahahahahha
Nah but kind of, Bob Boilen just keeps stuff like that around his desk
Nick: Did everyone brought their instruments?
Joe: uuuuuh
Some toddler: I got you fam
Alexandre Costa could’ve been Alena or Valentina...
I laughed so bad 😂
Major flashback on Camp Rock 2 🥴😬
Kevin to the kids: if you wanna be a lead singer, you're gonna have to buy a tighter pants and learn how to play the tambourine.
Nick & Kevin: We're wearing black
Joe: So pink???
I went to their tour recently on Tuesday and Nick and Kevin were in all white and Joe was in black 😂😂
Accurate Joe Jonas energy.
That's why he's in Dnce cuz he's on his own wave lmao
He's a leo...he needs to stand out lol
he's endorsing Taylor Swift's latest album #Lover as a sign that they are a-OK now ;)
Kevin: Cool Dad
Nick: Old man at heart
Joe: 16 year old at heart
They all balance themselves out
They do
ahh, yes this is exactly them i'm crying
Good description for all of them !! 💕😂
Always was the same, i love My boys 💜🥰
Exactly 😂
Joe will always and forever be my favorite jonas brother
Mine too
Same
Agreed
Mine too
Yeah, same here
This tiny desk is proof to how criminally underrated Joseph Jonas' voice is
Joe playing the mini toy tambourine speaks to me for some reason
It does why 🤫👸👑👑👑👑🤢
omg i didnt realize it was mini🤣
i tot its harry styles
😁
I love discovering new, emerging artists on NPR tiny desk. Where are these guys from? Are they really brothers?
Alaskan Pipeline LOL
@@weyheyjackie are they for real? XD
Inbar Peled They’re probably just bullshitting lol
C mamo 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
00:00 Sucker
4:45 I Believe
9:45 Only Human
Thanks you so much 😎
You deserve the top comment
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
12:58 happy birthday
It’s more of a jazz feel than a pop feel
Joe is a big ol goofy kid... but his voice is LEGENDARY!! I love it
Sucker jazzy af is actually so fire. Never would've thought.
Kevin is the shit. He is such a dad in the best ways possible
He actually has a nice voice it’s just a lot deeper than joe and nick I wished he sung more in the songs😢
Joe is a great singer. He has a great vocal control. And beautiful falsete.
…
He was actually pretty pitchy in this performance 😂
haha joe forgetting lyrics is so iconic
"Stumbling back to bars" LOL
I'm in love with the pianist.
saaame he's damn cute
Say that aloud 5 times fast.
He looks so gentle and nerdy..lol :D
@@piglet2548 I loved the head in the keys... so cute.
One could say you're *Drawn* to him.. hahaha
They got super creative the way they broke these songs down to these stripped down versions. They easily could have just done a simple acoustic version but they added in a lot more to it and changed the vibe of the songs really.
There are some really talented musicians that tour with them, I don’t know if they all are the guitarist on the far right is I believe, he looked familiar as I just saw them live a few days ago. And then of course Jack, the drummer who is crazy good and has been with them since the beginning!
Sounds better than the studio version
I want a jazz album now. 😅❤😊
I want to hear Kevin sing.
Tbh I would even settle for hearing his guitar. Between the other guitars and bassists, half the time I think I hear him only to realize one of the other musicians is playing it and Kevins strum looks totally different from what I hear... but it totally looks like he is playing so idk.
" I left my heart in Scandinavia" is a song sung by Kevin for their Disney show "Jonas" and it's amazing
Yes! He has a beautiful voice I wish he'd sing more.
@@ohifonlyx33 Great point. No doubt Kevin can play, but every time I see him his parts are being ghosted by someone else. Same way we haven't seen Ringo drumming alone since...I don't know, the 70s?
Joe's vocals own my heart 😭💓
I was never into them growing up, but I feel like them deciding to start the band up again was the best idea they probably had on a day at some family BBQ
I was a little too old for them when they came out before, but I'm enjoying their new music.
@@AshesPashes I know right. It feels more mature, which is nice. I feel like their original fanbase also grew up so they will enjoy their music as well
I credit Post Malone for sparking up the idea
recommend watching their documentary (on amazon prime) explains a lot about why they got back together, the whole thing was quite interesting actually!
@@AshesPashes exactly the same for me.
NICK SOUNDS LIKE HE’S IN PAIN
As usual but we love it
😂😂😂
Have you watched in in the Les Miserables anniversary concert! Very painful-looking as well!
Right? I see how other people could hate it but I love the style 😭😭
Not a huge fan of the way Nick sings 🤷🏻♀️ he looks like he’s in pain even when it comes to the easy notes. And he doesn’t open his mouth up when singing certain notes that it makes all the words sound very closed up/narrow. Not sure how to explain it in musical terms~ I’m more a fan of Joe’s voice. Oh well~ everyone has different tastes/preferences~
@@SwiftieCatLover i love nick, but this whole performance i was like, dude, open your mouth lol
Joe coming through with the vocals in "I Believe". They are all so great ❤
Love that Joe's sweatshirt says "Lover"
So Frank Ocean next ? 🙍🏾♂️
I want him here so bad
the world isn’t ready
Please I need to hear novacaine, pyramids, thinking bout you etc!!!!
Speak it into existence 👍
Plssssss
I like how Joe does Michael Keaton eyebrows when he reaches the high notes.
I’m cracking up lol
His signature look back in the day lol
LOL Michael Keaton you're right 😂😂😂
ME TOO LOL
Mr Bean eyebrows you mean?
I really enjoy seeing this imperfect version of them. It feels like we don’t get to see them without all the frills often enough. They really are very talented on their own and people don’t get to see that. They make mistakes and somehow that makes it better and more real.
I agree!!!
I was so addicted to these guys before. I used to have their albums, camp rock magazines, posters, any merch available that I can afford. Men, the flood took them away last 2009. I cried so hard. Wished they never disbanded. So happy they are united again ❤️.
Mate who was here for lovebug?? Pretty heartbroken by this, missed opportunity
sloth dog glad someone said it smh... & where’s year 3000?
omg same!!where is lovebug T_T
sloth dog yep
You can totally tell Nick and Joe are always going at it, trying to out do each other. And my man Kevin just be chilling in the back like "Yea. Cool. Whatever dudes. I'm just chillin' playing my guitar."
so right. dem brothers love each other so much
"Joe has his band DNCE along with Jack (cheers and whoops) I have my solo stuff and movies (only Joe claps) and Kevin has the greatest accomplishment his two beautiful daughters of course (cheers and whoops)
😂😂😂The audience really didn't have to do Nick dirty like that.
Hahaha
Joe’s tiny tambourine is giving me life 😂
Amber Plaatje i think it might be from one of Kevin's daughters hahah. Cause Joe'a daughter Willa wasn't even born yet at the time.
Still crushing on joe since day 1
They sound so good in this format. Pure acoustic and no autotune or effects
And Joe Jonas did that freaking whistle LIVE! And Nicholas made an unbelievably perfect sounds using toy instruments!!! 😱😱😱
This is why I love NPR’s Tiny Desk! It allows artists to showcase their work in a completely different way. I was never a fan of The Jonas Brothers but I actually enjoyed this and shared it on my social.
Lovebug would have been a good choice for a Jonas Brothers Tiny Desk Concert, I never expected it would happen but the moment I saw it I was almost sure that it would be in the list.
I thought that too :((
Me too :(((
That would have been awesome!! " as James Corden said "love bug still slaps"
This version of '' Sucker '' is just amazing !! 😃😃
“Only Human” sounds like it could be a track by The Police.
never been a fan but this performance was actually great! love how they incorporated the toy instruments!
Men at work!!!!
Joe has the most delicious voice I ever heard.....
It's definitely matured and gotten very sexy over the years. Bravo!!
So everyone is going to ignore the fact that he had a tiny tambourine at the beginning during sucker
It's so easy for Nick to alter his tone, infection, cadence etc. By doing that he can jump from any genre to the next. He effortlessly does it across the board in any setting also. That is talent.
Precisely, everyone’s talking about Joe but Nick has such control over his tuning and tone
@@WHALEx3he’s even more complete as an artist more than Joe in my opinion. Joe has got the power and charisma, but Nick’s got the skills. This guy is an amazing musician. He can play guitar, piano, drums or even other instruments and thinking he learns things by ears which is not easy.
Joe has a lot of power behind his voice lol
Nick left out Joes accomplishments with DNCE. Joe’s voice has seriously grown and he’s perfected his sound. I’ve always loved the Jonas Brothers & always will 🥰
Every time they play SUCKER on a live version it sounds different than the original, but I'm not mad. they always ROCK!
Sucker literally works with any style of music
man i live for "I Believe" acoustic version ❤️❤️❤️
I’m so glad that they sang “I Believe”, it’s my favourite off their album and was written about Priyanka😭❤️
We need Panic! At The Disco🔥
sadly not this year. brendon has not yet written anything for the next album : (
So basically just Brendon Urie and his backup band lol
Vro I so can’t wait to see Panic perform! Hopefully next year with his new album we’ll see him perform on here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes
I would not only like to thank god but NPR as well
Joe's soulful delivery of the chorus of Sucker UMMM WHAT
I love you Nick, I always have and I always will
this is it. i am 13 years old again
Yeah me too! 😍
I am 13 and a fan😂😂
lol same
🤷🏽♀️Never would have guessed I would like them.
Well, I was a huge fan of the Jonas Brothers when I was younger. But I think I underestimated their talent. When Joe went higher with his voice in the chorus I was so surprised.
Nick be out there hitting all notes on the right pitch 🔥
Always felt like the Jonas brothers had a soulful touch in them ! Love seeing them together 🥰😍🤩
i would listen them if their album sounded like this.
Actually their newest album is really good! I like all the tracks in it!
I'll check it out thanks
This version of "Only Human" is even more cooler than the original.
10:01 his smile though 😭😭😭, ANYONE HELP ME, I'M MELTED
I didn’t know I wanted the Jonas Brothers to come back, until they came back... now I’m sold.
Sameeee, I loved their newest tracks so much!!
These brothers are stupid talented! Their dad got pipes as well 🔥🔥🔥
Joe wearing a "Lover" Shirt. I'm LIVING FOR IT
I've been looking for this comment
i love the faces they do when they're singing
I wasn't expecting Jonas Brothers to swing this hard, but I'm into it.
This a cure I didn't know I needed.
Joe rocking out on that baby tambourine 🤟🔥
'I Believe' is beautiful in every version. I really like the guitar in it.
Strong dad energy
I saw the title and was like “...uh what?”. Surprised me with this concert for sure!
I love the mini tambourine that is using Joe. 😩✨
God I love Joe ❤️
I have never listened to these dudes in my life. These dudes is talented!
I never expected this coming from Tiny Desk but I’m loving it
I was not aware Joe could sing bass!!!! Nice!!! He's one of my favorite vocalists currently. Kevin is just *heart eyes*
JONAS IN 2019 WE LOVE TO SEE IT ❣️❣️❣️
Joe is still my fav
They are awsome but the thing that i liked the most is that they're actually having a lot of fun! I mean, they're having fun being there
Love “I believe”😭😭
It truly is so cool to see them back together again!! Like they are fire! They were my child/teenhood! 💙💙
You know, I was never into the Jonas Brothers as I was never their demographic. But today when I saw they had a tiny desk I figured I would give them a fair shake like I do to everyone else on Tiny Desk. The first song was a pleasant surprise, the second shows how their voices are all a little different- which might be a recent development, but I appreciated it as their lives are very different and that showed through their voices, and the third was a nice fun journey showing how their voices work well together.
This was a good concert, while it didn't evoke strong feelings in myself I do appreciate what the Jonas Brothers do, and will likely listen to more of them.
Disclaimer: I was feeding my son breakfast when we listened to this, so my descriptions might be a little off
Great review. I feel the same.
They actually have very different sounding voices and vocal techniques. Nick has a lighter, breathier, airier, and more nasally tone. He excels in the falsetto register. Joe has a fuller, more colorful chest voice and he excels at lower register singing and belting. He can do the high notes too, but his tone sounds very different from Nick. I honestly think Joe is a much more natural vocalist (it just comes easier to him). Nick sometimes sounds like he's struggling to stay on pitch. You can see that come through in their faces too.
@@captainbryce1 Wow. SPOT ON analysis!!
Never thought I'd see this happen...Also exciting to see what they're capable outside of their production label pressures. Good job guys :)
First time, I'm watching them. Nick's singing voice is different from what I would expect seeing him. His talking voice is coherent but when he sings it's like he's not letting it out naturally...
Joe's harmonizing @ 12:17 was well done well done bravo 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I'm so upset that no one said "Get off that cake!" during the end credits
I was also hoping for a "I dROppeD MY peNCiL"
:( DAMN
I was waiting for Joe to say “you’re f$@#ing delicious.”
JOHN TAYLORRR!!!!
a true missed opportunity
Omgg I didn't expect this!!
Those are my books
No puedo con la versatilidad de los Jonás 💞qué increíbles arreglos a sus canciones. Suenan increíble
Omg, Melted when Kevin said "I really win but its fine" 😂
NPR really is the best! They literally get everybody to perform and they usually never disappoint
Its always so much fun to watch the Jonas perform right there in their element, manifesting their raw talent and charisma. Acoustic has always seem to me their very best! Thank u Tiny desk this is awesome
What a wonderful surprise. I loved this performance. Thank you Jonas Brothers and NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert. My oldest son turned me on to this. So glad that he did. Thank you so much.
They’re so talented and charismatic, I can watch this over and over. Wish they would’ve done a fourth song, maybe even a throwback!!!
Hi I’m joe Jonas and your watching my tiny desk concert
Hi Joe...I saw you in the thumbnail so I clicked 😂😏😎
This performance got me to check out the official videos for the new music from the Jonas Brothers.
I don't understand how a music producer thinks that covering up this actual talent with overdubs and autotuning makes the music any better. I'll listen to this Tiny Desk recording a million times before inflicting the official studio release on my ears again.
Please let one of the executives from the label hear these comments and then compare this performance to what they are trying to sell us. I will pay money for a stripped down performance like this highlighting a musician's talent over any technological wizardry they might apply in the studio.
I also look forward to every new Tiny Desk performance exactly because it lets me see what the performer can really do.
Yes this is exactly how I feel. This sounds so much better than their album
unfortunately it seems like the less overblown / overproduced the song is, the less likely it is to get any radio play :/
I'm really upset that it took me that much scrolling to finally see a comment like this. Their voices sound awful.
@@altcast2946 ... you're telling me that you scroll through comments just to find a place to state you think they sound awful?
@@joeszilvagyi I'm gonna be honest. I misread your comment when I first read it.
Joe is really killin' it here!!!
Was waiting for Nick Jonas to but out "Introducing Me" but nevertheless a dream unfulfilled...
Really diggin’ this arrangement of Sucker ❤️
Joe's eyebrow game on point though.
I just saw them live for the first time and my obsession came back lol I love them so muchhh ♥️
Me too! I saw the on friday and I am here as I used to be at 14 hahahah
