Cool factor is real haha. I have to say that I enjoy the longer videos and the rambling. But back to cool factor, the value placed on certain brands or designers knives control the market value and the want for them. It can make a $100 knife as lusted for as a $500 one. You can’t help but enjoy it even tho it can be frustrating at times. It makes the game more interesting and make the moment when you finally get what you’ve been chasing after that much better and satisfying.

I have more knives than I could ever need, so I ordered another one yesterday. lol
i always knew i wanted to get the higher end stuff eventually, my first 100+ knife was a gerber auto in s30v and just a few days ago i got a bhq exclusive rockeye for nearly 300. it happpens and when you have something you have a genuine interest in you owe it to yourself to explore and enjoy it.
U get the desert warrior rockeye? Hate I missed that one I'm trying to pick up a rockeye. I found a rockeye operator instock but they sold out by time I had my money ready. Was able to pick up a mordax at a local gun store though.
@@bhunt919 yeah i had a friend tell me he saw them on the coming soon page so i set notifications, they didnt sell out as fast as i thought the knurled one was in stock for a few hours the smooth one nearly 12 hours. but if you didnt know they were coming it was pretty fast.
Yea I started my collection about 2 years ago and am definitely slowly climbing the ladder for sure. Spent over a grand just last week 👍

As for the cool factor, since I started watching your videos a little over a month ago I’ve already bought a textured titanium Demko 20.5 as well as 6 budget knives for work and I did the preorder on the CHAD! My wife doesn’t thank you but I certainly do and keep the COOL coming!!

Lost My EDC that I've been carrying for the last 13 years so I picked up a Kershaw dividend composite about a month ago and figured that would be all I need and the most I would spend. Well that lasted until This past week when I picked up a WE Soothsayer,LoL the Cool factor is real and down the rabbit hole I go.
9 months ago I got into budget knives Civivi, Sencut, Cjrb, kept telling myself idk how someone can need more than this, these budget knives are amazing. Fast forward to present day….I’m currently hunting a Rosie, and have a semi custom mini fsd on the way. The knife that sent my down the bigger, better more expensive knife path was the WE mini buster.
Super good insight! I think those who are snobby in their claim to solely focus on value need to realize that if you’re participating in this community, you’re already partaking in some sort of excess. Contrary to what some may say, maximizing performance is *not* a necessity. A lot of what the community considers to be the bare minimum acceptable quality would serve the average person for years/decades and they’d never think twice about it if they never discovered the enthusiast knife world.
There’s certainly value to be found in all price ranges, but anyone who thinks they’ve found the magic price range that has max value and minimum pretentiousness is incredibly naive.
I struggled with how much the Bugout was...now I'm buying Shiros and USA made stuff up to $1200 so far. I'm sure I'll spend more eventually.

You're 100% right with the cool factor. I just spent $ 2k in 3 microtech knives last week in the TX bladeshow (one of them is the same borka stitch that you have over there lol) When i said my limit was 600 bucks, now i'm aiming for a mirror polished marfione custom that costs even more than those 3 together! I'm scared! I can't release my finger from the trigger!

I only have one knife and it's the AD 20.5. Literally. And I thought it was a crazy amount of money to spend on a folding knife but I did it after handling one that belonged to a friend.
I've been resisting the urge ever since and I simply couldn't resist it anymore while I was at work one day and impulsively bought the damasteel version of the WE Ziffius 🤣
Truer words were never spoken. Less than a year ago I said out loud, incredulous, "who would pay more than $100 for a knife?"
Then I did. A Spyderco Para 3 LW for 115 bucks. It was over the split second I held it in my hand.
Now I'm making room in the Apache Case (one of two) with the Nalpak insert for the incoming SBD Mini Evo. Prolly put it next to the Quiet Carry Waypoint and the Rockwall & Bexar. Same row as the Terrain 365 Invictus-ATC Ti and the Malibu PVK Exclusive. The first case is filled with only Spydercos...
The shame lasts until you put the third or fourth order in. Then comes acceptance, and hopefully soon I can laugh like MC does in this video.

I’m 100% aware of my addiction and have come to terms with it 😂 second pelican case and 2 more knives currently on the way. Got a coworker addicted to knives and he doesn’t know it yet. It’s going to be great watching him go down the rabbit hole.
This is sooo true. Currently saving for the Blade Show and my budget is $1500, I may even spend more. I'm looking for 3 specific grail knives and if I score them all I'll come home broke...but happy. 😅

It’s true! The last 3 knives I’ve bought have been in more than I’ve ever spent. It just happens your level will probably rise.
From when I got into this hobby nearly 2 years ago I never said anything like "I'd never spend X amount on a knife." I'd say stuff like "X is the most I would currently spend on an EDC." The Giantmouse Ace Sonoma that was a gift was what got me to buy $100+ dollar knives. A used PM2 ($100) was the first knife I spent over $50 on.

Probably the most accurate thing said about knife collecting. My first self imposed wall was 200. Then I got a knife given to me that was 250. Gave away most of my knives because they didn't compare. Quit getting knives for a decade. Then I heard of all the new steels, got a few and quit collecting again. Then one day back in 2018 I watched a few knife reviews. Now I'm near the 800 mark on a single knife and and I'm sure I will go further.

yeah, I told myself I need to sell some of my knives before I buy new ones. It's not going well.
The people who stick around for the whole video are the only ones who get the true payoff. For example, around 13 to 15 minutes in different personalities start popping in, like the Emperor.
one thing that i keep telling myself is that i would never have a certain number of knives all at once. like i wouldn’t want to have more than 10 knives, if i hit that mark and want more, i would convince myself to sell one before i bought another. i can feel that boundary slowly flexing, like maybe i would someday be okay with having 20 or 30 knives 😂 the price-per-knife ceiling isn’t something i think about quite as much but definitely the number of knives in my collection.

This whole addiction started with wanting to get ONE KNIFE to carry with me every day. A dozen more knives later, I can safely say I am a victim of the cool factor.
Cool factor is why I decided to pick up an EKnives tri grip ultratech 😂 Did I need it? No, I have plenty of very nice knives. Is it super cool? You know it! If I wanted knives purely for the function, I would have stopped buying knives after getting my bm940 😂
Well I bought a protec godfather about 8 years ago and it's still my most expensive knife. But I keep buying more and more expensive guns, so knives are kinda a side thing for me. Though I would never say never, I know it could happen.
I paid 3k for a $1200 knife because I thought it was cool… it was, it was cool.
And also I said that there is no way I would pay what the spyderco shaman sells for but now I have 3 of them and on top of that I have spent over $250 just for a set of after market scales to put on it.
I've run in to this self-imposed roadblock a few times..."I won't spend that much..." "I don't need that many..." "Do I really need a case that holds 40?!" "I'll never get caught up in the hype of scheduled drops..." "ill never buy that brand..." "Do I really need 4 different versions of the same model?!".......At the end of the day, I enjoy crafted items that are unique, useful, and can be carried/worn on a daily basis. Props to anyone that has mastered the art of delayed gratification!

Yeah exactly I have only been in the knife world for a little over a year and in the beginning I said I there is absolutely no way I would ever spend more than $50 on a knife and I am already over $600.
Yes I paid 550 for one of the hereitc manticore e bounty hunters with a boba fett fat carbon and Magnacut I honestly don’t think it’s that bad of a price
My first nice knife cost $800, but now buy mostly between $300 to $650, so I apparently jumped into the deep end
I used to tell myself quality was better than quantity but with knifes I just ended up doing both
There’s things i am less likely to do because the opportunity doesn’t present itself very often, like spend over $1000 on one knife, but i long ago learned that any arbitrary line i said i’d never cross can be erased under the right circumstances

€150 is the most I’ve spent on a knife so far….it help/hinders me that I’d get hammered with delivery and customs buying from America here in Ireland not to mention laws….I have to be more precision with my purchases as the secondary market here is non existent…I enjoy the wait and the choosing nearly as much as getting the thing whatever it is… I’m already at piece with the fact I’ll one day pay circa €500 for a knife (mnandi) grail knife..

That's not at all true, maybe for closed minded, never been nowhere or seen nothing individuals it is true but in reality it just depends on what your prior life experience is, once you grow up and have life experience, you know that nice shit costs money and 75% is hype but if you are blessed with experience, exploration, interests....etc than you figured out that the only thing that determines value is your own mind. You create value. I for one am not a train rider, never been, my upbringing and life experience has made me this way and I'm immensely thankful for that.
