Until we Aussies went to China way back before 2000, I didn't know that billions of people learn English by watch 'stuff' online or endless TV (nowadays via some other platform like 'you tube') but including the old VCR, most programmes being is 'Made in the USA'. Thus, they speak with an American 'twang'. My first 'trip guide' in Beijing (once Peking) - let's call him John, when asked if he'd lived in the US, retorted that "NO. I'VE LEARN BY WATCHING EVERY TV/VCR show/programme, boring or not. SO. That is how many non English speakers learn English, particularly countries that have/had few opportunities so to do.

Here's a pub you must visit. The Royal Standard of England, in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. It's the oldest freehouse in England. It's 900 years old. Check out the wall on the right as you enter. It's not a wall, it's the side of a giant wooden vat that they used to brew beer in.
Oh, just a heads up, Beaconsfield is pronounced Bekonsfield even though it got it's name from a roman navigation beacon. Don't ask about weird British pronunciation, we don't understand it either. Glad to have you here in the UK. ✌️

Chester was founded by the Roman's, originally called Deva. Lovely 'Rows', to walk around and shop, and there is the original Roman wall still standing, which you can walk around the city on.There is also an Coliseum, that sat 5,000, where gladiators fought. Chester also has a pub, built in the 16th century. Cheers.

It is lovely to hear someone from another country and culture speaking with such enthusiasm about England and the things you love here. That's especially true when I think about the imperial history of Austria and it's present day influence in beautiful architecture, music and food. We get so much negative, often ill-informed comment and it's nice to hear the upside for once. By the way, congratulations on climbing/walking the Yorkshire three peaks. I did the same many years ago and was also very proud of myself for doing so. This was my first but definitely not my last of your videos. I'm very happy that you are here and enjoying our country.

There's still a misconception about food in the U.K. from people who haven't either ever visited or did so many years ago. The past 20 years has literally been a revolution in food with London now offering the greatest variety on earth (despite many chains that vary in quality) Pub food used to be quite ordinary but now the majority offer really great food. As for theatre, London easily beats Broadway for variety, no contest. As for weather, London is not so bad but the further North you go the colder it gets and the less sun you'll see but the landscape is spectacular.

You might visit the Rivoli Ballroom at Crofton Park sometime, the last proper ballroom in London with atmospheric decor like you were still in the 1950's. Also a great club is Whirl-y-gig, perhaps the friendliest club in the UK. These are closed at the moment, but when they reopen. You mentioned Dorset beaches, you can find lots of fossils in some of these. In August in normal times the sri ganapathy temple wimbledon one minute from where I live have a festival where they have a procession throughout the streets and you can see worshipers rolling along the street vertically and other amazing things. A chronicler of his times Doctor Johnson said the man who becomes tired of London becomes tired of life. This could be applied to the whole UK. Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales are amazing.

As a Brit living these days New Zealand,t was lovely to hear you talk with such enthusiasm about the British Countryside, and your advice to explore outside London earned you a follow! Whist being locked down in Tier 5 must be a hell of a bummer right now, here are a few suggestions of places to visit (if you haven't found them yet) once conditions improve. Head out to the southwest and look for Newlands Corner and the village of Shere. Best in the summertime, you can park at Newlands Corner, take the path to the top of a very sandy hill and visit the church there. On the way you will see a picture postcard view of England as it used to be . Then take the car to the nearby village of Shere, complete with authentic duck pond, wooden bridge and great pubs. On the way back, visit the Thames at Richmond-on-Thames, climb Richmond Hill and see the view that inspired someone to name Richmond, Virginia after it. Thanks for your videos (and the Xmas advert ones!) Best wishes from Greg in Auckland NZ.

The most complete Roman city walls together a shopping area called the Rows, with individual shops stacked above each other but with a walkway. You have to see it ! It’s only a few miles to North Wales, with the Snowdonian hill range, slate mines and a huge underground hydro electric plant, which you have to take a bus around because it’s so big (even has traffic lights).
Then it’s only a short journey back into England to visit Liverpool, with its historic waterfront and buildings featured in so many films. Of course the Maritime Museum is a must, as is the Tate Modern. You can’t mention Liverpool without talking about The Beatles and they have their own museum as well. Take a trip on the world famous, ferry across the Mersey and then visit Liverpool One, the big shopping area. It’s an area with so many fascinating places to visit, lots of culture, some amazing historic buildings and stately homes, surrounded by three National Parks. Thank you again for being so lovely about my country. Kind regards.

I can't believe that I commented on a what I thought was a reasonably recent video with a comment about Yorkshire and just watched this one and you've done The Three Peaks Challenge so you know about many things I mentioned!!! Doh!!! I was up there between lockdowns and went up Pen-y-Gent, that was enough for me!!! There are many different parts of the Yorkshire Dales though so there a lot more to explore, if you haven't been a bit further north and east than you seemingly went. I haven't seen a video on a trip to Yorkshire. Is there one or was this when the channel wasn't that way orientated?
I think your comment about the weather is so true, especially in London (and the South East in general). I think it's more sunnier there then it is rainy, and often when you do get rain it costs up and doesn't stay all day. I think where you are in the UK makes a big difference in the weather, Wales, the North West, and West Scotland getting the most rain (and Northern Ireland too), the rest of the country I think can get heavy rain, but not as much. I think the UK gets bad press about the weather. Sure, a lot of the year you wouldn't want to go to the beach, and some summers aren't that great, but on the whole the summers are warm enough, not too hot, and the winters are generally mild (the further north you to and where there is higher elevation the more likely you are to get snow, obviously!!!

The south in general, can be sometimes drought prone. London, for example, has nearly 2.5 times less rain than New York, but Brits like to remember the 1 day that it rains out of 2 months and conveniently forget all the hot, sunny, dry weather periods.
