  • Are the Crayola Twistable Colored Pencils the same as the Crayons, just packaged differently? Watch me compare these two coloring products to find out.
When I did my White Colored Pencils video (see link below) several people commented that the Crayola Twistable white colored pencil was a crayon and not a colored pencil. So I decided to find out. Spoiler Alert-they are NOT the same. ;)

I have an old set of crayons from many years ago. Vibrant color. Today’s regular crayons were just wax and hardly any color. I threw them away and understood why kids liked markers instead. I’m gonna get the twistable crayons and give them a try. I have the pencils which are great for taking places for journaling and no mess But would be difficult to color a picture with them. Thanks for the video.

Thank you so much for this information, and it is so well presented. I picked up some of these pencils at a thrift store, and wondered about them. A coworker thought they were crayons, but they are pencils after all. I was surprised and excited about your findings, however, and now want to try the crayons. Thank you so much for sharing. Oh, also, I wonder how these crayons compare to Tim Holtz crayons, which I am sure are better, but I wonder how much better, for the cost. Thanks, Paula.

I got a pack of Crayola Twistable Colored Pencils recently and have been enjoying them. I'm curious if the formula has changed any since this review, though I can definitely tell that they're harder than other colored pencil examples I have. They are pretty clearly made to give a light layer and not break easily, and that makes them a decent option for a first lay-in before adding deeper values.

    Hi there.
I've actually colored a complete page with the Twistables colored pencils. They definitely don't like to be blended he way that I was blending for that page, but I LOVE their colors on the page. Just beautiful. I can't add the page here for your reference, but I would be happy to share it with you or whomever would like to see it. I colored the page with full intensity in mind. So, I was burnishing straight out of the box. (So to speak) I love the colors, the ease with which I got the color on the page, and my only complaint is that with my awesome burnishing skills, I could not "stack" a color on top to get a different shade. If I went over the line anywhere even a little, that's the way it stayed. The page is really VERY vibrant, and I loved the colors that were in my set.
I have colored recently using traditional crayons, and my biggest complaint, besides having to sharpen them to get into the smaller spaces, was their size. They are just too short for me. I have NOT tried the Twistabe crayons as yet, though. Shall have to add that to my list of sets to color a page with. Gotta buy a set first! (Hee, hee.)
I have found, for me only, that coloring a full page with a set is what lets me know whether I enjoy the sets I try. Even if I am just burnishing, I get a feel for that core. I am a heavier handed colorist, and I work at coloring softly to get my layering in. I'm currently coloring a page where I'm using 6 colors for ivy leaves. Just what I chose to do. I like the result. Still have to remind myself that light is OKAY. I really do like full intensity. (Probably why Prismacolor Premiere colored pencils and I don't get along well. I'm TOO heavy handed for them. AND, everything ends up smeary, even with a light touch. I'm a debris wiper. So I smear any pencil, but Prismacolors are HORRIBLE for smearing, for ME.)
    Thanx,
    Mindy

Thanks for the video. I have both the pencils and the twistable crayons. I actually love the pencils and my 81 year old momma loved hers. She often would color with me. She passed away this past November. I have saved all her pencils for her namesake Emma. Oh and to be able to use the crayons in smaller areas , I twist mine out a bit further than necessary but far enough to sharpen the ends in a basic sharpener. This works well

Thank you, Jennifer, for this comparison. I do disagree with you, though, because I really like the Twistable pencils. I use them for large areas and backgrounds, usually with highlighting done with regular colored penacils. They blend right in! I have used them for quite awhile and they haven't been used up. And I never !ave to sharpen them! They do not have a lot of pigment, but sometimes they are just what I need! I haven't been using the crayons because I don't want to bother sharpening them. Just my opinion.

I don't like the twistable pencils either. They wouldn't stay up when I was coloring and the tip isn't fine enough for detail. To me, they are just a step up from CrazyArt and that isn't saying much. What is the most pigmented crayon you've ever used?

    • @marybowling27126
      @marybowling27126 Před 6 lety

If you don't like that dull tips and wished they had a sharp point ... They work in a regular pencil sharpener to sharpen them to a real sharp point. Of course this tip is only for adults and the points get very sharp. But it's better to cover tight areas.

My little cousin had a set and I colored with her just a bit with them, but I do own the twistable pencils and am not that impressed with them. The crayons are great for kids! They don't leave waxy residue on kids' hands. My granddaughter loves them!
Crayola also has some Twistables gels that are kinda like gellatos, and are great for kids too! These are really nice for kids, as many kids' art products are not highly pigmented, yet these are better than many of the kids' products on the market.
The pencils could be quite a bit softer.
I agree, the Twistable crayons are very nice... The pencils could use a little work.

The twistable crayons and twistable colored pencils are awesome and better than the normal crayons and colored pencils. I love the twistable crayons because they glide on the paper Nicely and doesn't make your colored page look waxy. It's also is a pain to peel regular crayons and they break easily for me. I got the scented ones I got two packs because they where on clearance for $3 and change. For the twistable colored pencils I love them because I don't have to sharpen a colored pencil when it get's low on lead . I am going to purchase the regular twistable crayons soon and get another package of colored twistable colored pencils because I love them so much.

I sometimes use them in my coloring books but I was wondering---how do the crayons blend with odorless mineral spirits? I may invest in some if it works on crayon. Needless to say, crayons don't blend very well nor do they cover the tooth of the paper like pencils.

You have brighten the colors by the setting on your camera. I bought a pack of these. For my niece. They are colorless, dull, hard waxy. Kinda reminds me of those tv dinners you buy. The tb dinner with the nice picture of whst they want you to think is inside. But when you open the tv dinner you get 3 small quarter sized pieces of turkey, wateted down mash potatoes, if you get the kind with Dessert, like apple, wiyh sweat sause. I think some other piece of cranberry. But in reality, you get slivers of apple ( im being generous). Well there's only one fitting place for these. You guessed it.. the garbage. As for this lady, she needs to not mislead the public like Crayola does. She's probably getting free crappy products. Fitting..........

Crayon has really gone down ⤵the hill. These are 110% crsp. Wast of money. Nothing but wax with a very slight hint of color doesn't matter if they are just a bix of crayons. Or "crayola Twistable crayons. Don't wast your money. I will not pay a dime for any pkg of Crayola brand products
