There is nothing like seeing the sun as it rises, before it shines in full. Such was my impression of the very impressive Amyah when she stopped by my Zulu Language & Culture class while she was on her Howard campus visit. Erudite and nonchalant, she is ready for the world. Thanks Maze family for giving Amyah support by bringing the whole Fam for the visit! Super special thanks to Akeeba for bringing my abashana along! What a day! I hope I and all the people Amyah met made a good case for choosing HU.

Congratulations Amaya on this great experience of touring Howard University. Although you have your heart set on South Korea, it maybe better to go after freshman year to gain experience of living in a foreign country alone.
My neice's cousin went her first semester to Spain (she wants to become a Linquist) and enjoyed it but had bouts of depression/anxiety from being so far away from home and will return next summer.

I love this I can't believe Amayah is going to college already how time flies😭❤️ I think the thing about languages in the household is so true I was born and raised in South Africa but my parents are originally Malawian growing up my parents tried to teach us our native language as that's what they spoke in the house hold but my surroundings were mostly Zulu, Tswana and English I've recently moved to Malawi after 29years and I struggle with my native language but I speak a bit I'm fluent and articulate in English so basically English I my first language hahahah 😂....with that said thank you for the great content it's always heartwarming and educational

As a Malawian who's grown up in South Africa, this is so relatable. I find myself speaking South African languages better than I speak Chichewa😂 but I still speak it with my parents because I'm still Malawian, I also make sure I know how to read and write the native language

Proud HBCU Graduate Here 🎉 It’s Great Choice for any student experience. I understand what your grandfather was saying… when I had my youngest son, my oldest son was going to college as a freshman, and when he came home for a visit after a few months, my baby did not know who he was. But trust and believe when I tell you, they are extremely close to this day even with a 17 1/2 yr, difference in age. So don’t worry as long as you are making connections every time you come home they’ll remember you and look forward every time you come home.

I agree with what the students said. They were right about you having networking opportunities and meeting so many people who you will bond with. The community aspect of feeling naturally welcomed. Unfortunately you don't feel that at pwi colleges. I am thankful to be able to have attended college, but I will always encourage the younger POC/students to consider an HBCU.
