- Reviewing Samsung's Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, one of the best new premium smartwatches of 2022, with its massive battery and rugged design. I've been testing the Samsung Watch 5 Pro for almost a fortnight and here's my verdict on the everyday experience.

This 45mm model boasts several upgrades over the regular smartwatch although lacks the rotating bezel of the Watch 4 Classic. You've got a bigger cell for improved battery life (even if it's still lacking vs Huawei rivals). That titanium body and enhanced sapphire screen are also impressively tough, so the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is one of the most durable offerings in 2022.
Google's Wear OS is again on board, but with those Samsung services such as Pay and Bixby instead. You also have dedicated fitness and exercise tracking tools which tie directly into Samsung Health. So the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is certainly best suited to Sammy fans with a Galaxy smartphone, those Buds TWS, etc.

Just got mine today as an upgrade from galaxy 3 . Not really missing the bezel as much as I thought the watch is super responsive. Seems to integrate a lot more with your phone (S22 ultra) than the three. Looking forward to doing a bit of hiking and checking the fitness tracking . Strap is as Chris said superb. One happy upgrader.

great review..I received mine 4 days ago direct from Samsung.. one QUESTION.. there is NO way to add a Custom ringtone like on my other Samsung Galaxy watches the original and the Watch 3... any thoughts on how to add a Custom Ringtone.. from the Wearable app on my Note 20 Ultra there is no + in the Ringtones section to add a custom Ringtone
I have. been running the non pro 44mm model, it has for my usage about 3 days usage with night tracking enabled.
The only setting I have is not always on screen. I have the lte model. Did choose this over the pro model because of the beizel on the PRO.
Does the 5 pro have the same issue the watch 4 classic has..where it overheats/gets hot a lot and has to go into cooling down mode?
the are definitely bulkier than the polar ignite i currently have. trying both for a while to see what i like best.

Gonna be my first smart watch
I really don't see how people get 3 days of battery life out of the watch. I've had mine for a week and I've even tried to turn off every function, but the max time I get is two days and 5 hours. Even with power saving on it only lasts 2 days and 17 hours. So either there's something wrong with my watch, or reviewers are just saying stuff without testing.
Simple fix,charge it at the end of each day

Have the 4 now. Less battery time than the original I also have. Saw a CNET video that said it sits better on the wrist so I might not have to cut off circulation to get some sensors to work.
Do you think it's worth getting a Galaxy Watch4 Classic over the Watch5? I like the rotating bezel and have found refurbished 46mm going for around $200. I primarily use it for notifications, reading and replying to messages , and the occasional Assistant question. As long as the battery holds out for 12ish hours I'll be happy.
Go for it. You'll save a bunch of money and still have a great watch. I have GW4C and I love it. The only thing I miss is a bigger size since mine is 42mm (it came free with the phone anyways) but the rest is just perfect. For me the rotating bezel is a win and nothing beats it. Battery life is also great. I sleep with it and do an early morning exercise (treadmill 3-5km, 3-5 weight and cable machines exercises and 20 minutes swimming), charge it for about an hour until I get ready for work (usually it gets full charge) and then go to work. Charge it again in the evening before I go to sleep and that's it. Never seen less than 30%. IMO GW5 don't have enough features worth upgrading (I think body temp only if you're into it). Again, rotating bezel is just so satisfying. Good luck

I still have the original Samsung galaxy watch. I'm reluctant to upgrade till their wear os version can match the battery life of the Tizen watches I had some hope for this one...
I too have the original Galaxy watch which can last 5 days using simple watch faces and hesitant to upgrade.

I've always had problems adding new watchfaces to my Galaxy Watch 4. It's either an app to add to your phone or it says not compatible with your watch.
Can you reconfigure the Bixby button?
I upgraded from the first generation galaxy watch, and it is so nice! The only gripe I have is that I can't use the watch speakers for apps like spotify, which is something I could do on the first Gen watch. Other than that though, such a massive upgrade! Great and in depth video!
Have mine on pre-order, and currently have the first Gen watch also. Guess it's a bigger upgrade for us than people who upgrade every year

coming from the Fossil HR collider 3 days battery isnt enough. The Collider lasts me a week off a charge. I tend to toss it on the charger every time I shower so I never really notice charging it.

Yet no one mentions you can't charge the watch on the promo gift duo charger. Just got mine yesterday, and Samsung confirmed this, and recommends using the luck charger instead.

I've had it for 2 weeks. I upgraded from the watch 4 classic. battery life is definitely much better. the watch 4 pro for me would often fail in less than a day with extensive use. this bad boy is good for 3 days . the bigger screen is fabulous and the new band is awesome. well worth it for me.

The thing about the arms, Chris your a Killa thanks for the humour as always but seriously thanks for spreading the joy, oh about the watch, it is impressive and you make it look even better but I maintain that smart watches are for only and I say it again only the "morally upright", never the less it is an impressive device.
I Still have a Watch 46mm from 2018 with Tizen and want to upgrade to the 5 pro. Is it a upgrade? Because i still have 5 data of more batter life now… and tizen is still fast,tracks sleep well etc

I received GW5P today, and I like it! I traded in my GW4 (44m) and believe it is a good upgrade due to the increased battery life. However, I will keep my GW4C (45m) when I want to dress up! Plus, the rotating bezel is a classic clean look. Lol, see what I did there😏

How you liking the watch 5 Pro? I really loved the GW4 Classic and am really partial to the rotating bezel. But if it gives 2-3 days more battery life I'd be willing to give it up for that.

i have the watch 4 classic, disappointed with the watch 5 pro, not much has changed except the battery but i get a day and a half out of my gw4 classic... going to wait for the pixel watch and see what it brings. Also waiting on the Amazfit GTR4 that should be released in October as the GTR 3 pro is pretty great. ive a feeling samsung made a deal with google, to bring out a bad watch this year and for google to take over this year.... heres hoping. knowing google though they can disappoint in recent years with their phone releases, nothing they have brought out has been as exciting as their pixel 2 xl
I have to agree with you about Amazfit watches. They are great!!! I have 2 of them. The vibration motors in them are insanely great!!! I am a very heavy sleeper these watches can easily wake me up. Samsung, Tic watch, nah not happening!!! Battery life is awesome!!! My tic watch gets easy 3 days no problem and its the tic watch ultra 3...

My Active 2 went bonkers after accidentally using it in sea water without water mode. I miss its smaller size and especially the rose gold. I may get a standard non-LTE 5 for those times when I want something less...big. Still, the 5 Pro feels about like my fallback Gear S3 for size.
Only 2 days so far and I've had to charge it twice, though lowest I let it get was 38%. I use it almost exclusively for notifications (a select set), but have one of the live faces with the battery, compass, steps, and heart rate complications. I will again rely on its activity tracking for workouts and dragon boat paddling sessions.
I'll play around with removing complications, and maybe a standard face, since "display" is the highest battery usage so far. I'm not using always on and never have, so am still unsure what is eating the battery. A few weeks twiddling and a few updates will likely settle that out, as it did with my S2, S3, and A2. The Active 2 so far has been my favorite watch, but I couldn't pass up some of the features in the 5 series.
I have this watch, and I am on 50% after 4 and a half days. I am in Airplane mode, daily I switch back the BT once and off. Continuues pulse is on and steps and sleep. And thats it. So 8-9 days in a single charge.

I have decided to get rid of my smart watch having had the Smart watch 4 6-7 months now. As a fitness tracker it is poor, GPS all over the place, heart rate monitor is poor. There is a problem with software if you do HIT style running, the GPS is always wrong, when compared with just walking or just running, this issue was on their Gear S3 so they ignored my observations. The watch 4 is charged twice per day! Yes twice per day when I drive to work and when I drive home, if I don't, it wont last the night. I am going on Holiday soon and I am taking a normal watch, because I don't want to spend all day in my room charging the damn thing. As a smart watch? I don't really see the pint of it. I am beginning to lose interest in Tech, you know what? it doesn't help you at all.
I'm among the customers who bought the Galaxy Watch 4 a couple of weeks prior to the successor's debut, because Samsung offered it for less money then. I don't regret my choice as there're no significant differences between the basic models. And a bit bigger battery, allowing for 50 hours of usage on a single charge, didn't appeal to me, because I can easily pull out two full days out of the GW4 without having to refrain from taking advantage of any of its capabilities.
What's the point in owning a smartwatch then if you're not using its capabilities? May as well just buy a basic Casion.

I received my GW5 Pro in all black with the sport clasp band. I transitioned from a Fenix 6x Pro. Although it is smaller in circumference, the features are all solid and basically the same features as previous versions with some upgraded features. Hopefully the battery life will be better than previous models.
Fenix is the Garmin with solar power rite? Battery gonna disappoint. I might sell my pro 5 for an epix 2
@@kevincampos6394I think the Fenix and GW 5 Pro are in different categories. I had the Fenix Pro 6x for about two years. I would not recommend buying it unless you are looking for a watch that is designed for hiking, camping, or just navigating through the woods/mountains. The battery life lasts for days if not a week or more with minimum use and it is very rugged watch built for the great outdoors. However, I realized I spent a hefty price for features that I seldomly or never used. The display is lacking. I have the GW5 Pro now. It is basically the GW4 with better battery life, better bluetooth, sapphire glass, and a Titanium hardware.
@@md-hj5nd ya but i was talking about battery specifically. Actually the epix 2 which i might sell my GW 5 pro for might be a better fit since i want it for health features more then smart. The 1000 price tag is hefty but so far my first full charge on my watch 5 pro only have me about day and half

Maybe it's just me, but why would you need your watch to last 3 or 4 days when your phone doesn't? I own the Pro myself, and I find that if I forgot to charge or something, that extra day and a half is worth it, and that's all I need. i don't see how the battery is a negative
Still getting to grips with my new GW5Pro, but the obvious disappointment is the loss of the bezel. I soooo miss that navigation tool, and unique selling point. In my view, aesthetically the bezel made the Samsung Classic ranges so distinguished. Ok, enough about what I miss. Generally the watch is very nice. However, I'm finding the gesturer response is slower than I experience with my GW3. So when I rotate my wrist to see the time, there's a noticeable delay.
To make sure I wasn't imagining the difference, I did side by side comparisons and filmed it. There is a .01 difference. Not the end of the world, but not what I expect for a £460.00 piece of hardware. Especially when compared to a 4yr old watch. I assume Wear is to blame.
I was going to send it back because in my view there just isn't enough of a step up from my Watch 3 to make this worth the cost and loss of the beloved bezel. That said, I need a new watch, so this will do for now.
Bro, a physical bezel is a weakness. It's just another failure point. These smartwatches are more durable and long-lasting without a rotating bezel. In daily use it really makes no difference. I'd rather not have something that water, sand, and dirt can get lodged into. Way happier with no bezel.
@@iannelli2448 I don't disagree that the more moving parts, the greater the failure points. I just like it!! I've had/have 3 or 4 versions of Samsung's watches, from the 1st iteration with the bezel to 5Pro. I guess I'm just a creature of Habit.
That said, now that I've been using it for a month, I'm getting used to not having the bezel. I also have the 4 Classic, and transitioning back and forth I'm finding I don't use the bezel much on my 4 Classic. So I guess, "you can teach an old dog new tricks!".

But I'm glad it's working out for you man. I keep seeing people praying for a rotating bezel on the GW6 and I'm like... why would you want to turn back the page on this technology? It'd be like reintroducing more physical buttons on phones, or even a physical keyboard on phones.
I think we are all better off embracing the newfound durability and weatherproof-ness of these devices :)

Huawei doesn't offer NFC, LTE,or Wi-Fi conductivity so couldn't be really considered as smart watch. Google assistant is probably the best upgrade recently for Samsung because you can control all your smart things make phone calls etc. Battery life should really be compared with Apple Watch which has the same conductivity as Samsung watch.
love the watch but does anyone else find the Spo2 sensor crap every morning i wake up my spo2 is always between 70 and 100 percent when i had apple watch never dropped below 96 percent during sleep, also i find the ecg hit and miss

I've had mine for jut over a week, can't sleep with it, and unlike you as a desk surfer, mine is already scratched and dinged. The standard straps are horrible as they don't breath and keep your sweat against your skin. Also the curved back causes a pressure point. Also this watch does not workbwell with any of the qi chargers that I've used thanks too this curved back. Can't wait for the next firmware update. My feed back is it is uncomfortable too wear if you have small wrists. I got mine for £280 direct from Samsung UK.

Just got mine a couple days ago. Battery life is horrible! Went from a full charge to 50 percent in 6 hours. Honestly. Any help would be appreciated. Samsung didn't seem to care or know why it's draining so fast

I've been using Google Pay on my Galaxy Watch4 Classic for several months. Can't imagine not being able to use it on the Watch5 Pro upgrade. In fact, Google Pay is now called Google Wallet and is much improved with greater versatility.

Have they fixed the overheating issue that was on watch 4 when using the lte standalone?
Got my hands on it and its almost perfect except I still find the aesthetics make it look more like a cheap sports band than a classic watch which is frustrating considering the price vs Huawei GT and Xiaomi S1 watches. Plus the bottom button can't be reassigned to something other than going back through screens... annoying!
