Epicly Later'd: Eric Dressen (Part 1/5)

- Epicly Later'd steps out of its 90s comfort zone with a skater who's been pro for five decades. Yes, five decades. Turning pro in 1978 at the age of 13, and then going on to become a pioneer of street skating, Eric Dressen has had a very well-rounded career. He has witnessed firsthand the rise and fall of skateboarding three times, and each time affected Eric in a different way. These days, Eric skates for Santa Cruz and tattoos full time at Will Rise in Hollywood. In part one of the series, we hear about an era in skating when most of our viewers weren't even a sperm in their dads' balls, and kick-turning was considered a trick. Enjoy!

Style, power, and flow. That's means more to me than tech, rails, and gaps.
Yup
Woooord
Why not both?
I like it all, but in the 2000s you basically had to skate steps and rails. I always loved guys like Dressen. Later on a bit Chalmers was huge in Flip Sorry. That part really showed people how amazing it can be to skate transitions still. That was always what I found the most fun too. I did spend days on college campuses going down steps and rails etc, but once a few of my friends started doing flip tricks down huge stuff I stuck to what I was best at haha.
@@Buffalosabskis chalmers' part in sorry was always my fav for that reason, looked like the most fun type of skating
that's a pro's pro... respect the legends that paved the way. love this episode.
When Eric got known outside California, being pro for Santa Cruz in the late eighties, nobody told us about his legendary status he achieved by then. Somehow, he was publicized as being just another skater.
So thanks so much for this outstanding portrait of maybe the most underrated skateboarder of all time.
under rated legend
He is recognized globally. How is that underrated? He just skate boards
Eric dressen has a sick style and is one of my favorite skaters. He is a big inspiration.
How is it I've search Eric's old video parts for years, and just now seeing his Epically Later'd 9 years after it was posted? Way to go CZcams algorithm!😆🤘
E. DRESSEN IS HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST ALL TIME, ALL TERRAIN RIPPERS!
Saw this dude outside the little shop I go 2 to get gear. Seemed like one of the nicest low key people ever.
The thing that Dill said about Eric still asking to ride the bowl at Supreme was profound. I’ll never forget that as a good rule of life.
he still skates the supreme bowl to this day
EPIC PERSON SIR DRESSEN IS!!! Much love to you and thanks for coming to Luxemburg!!! Humble and modest!!! Hits it right on the spot! Lovely.
I’m here because of the Eric Dressen heroine guest model board. Love how heroine skatelads have turned me onto some different cool styles of skating!
Thank you so much for doing one of these on Eric. I started skating in the the early 90's and always thought he was rad as fuck but never knew he's been shredding that long! I honestly think these series are great ways to expose young skaters of today that may not know anything but the riches and fame that some skaters have now, that really shit wasn't anything like it is at all now a days. Plus seeing the fact that he teared up at the end because his dreams were met is an inspirational thing
EPICLY LATER'D is the best series on
I had his original "Roses" board when I was a kid. The artwork on that deck was so great
Thanks a lot for the upload! I really enjoyed it.
The second pro deck I ever had was one of the first Santa Cruz Everslick models that came out, I had a Dressen and my best friend had the SMA Petersen Everslick...such a good board and such a damn good skater!
My all time look up to skater. At 49, I'm back on the ED everslick board. 🇬🇧🤘
Total f**kin' legend, and so damn humble, and just as good now. I remember watching the downhill scene from speed freaks and thinking, this is going to change street, so gnarly and fearless.
Sick Dressen!! Good history rite there. Mahalo!!
I remember when dressen, cesario and my brother ray flores came to Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico at the beginning of the 90s
seeing those old issues of big brother brought back memories. Best skate mag ever
Eric Dressen has been one of my FAVORITE skateboarders ever since I started skating! I remember being a kid, looking at his photos & videos & thinking, this guy is so RAD!!! He is definitely a inspiration, a TRUE LIFER!
I love him. What a great dude!
Great video.

Youre favorite skaters favorite skater!

Dressen and Natas were who I was trying to emulate. One of the best ever in my book!
That's awesome.
Eric blew my mind on the troops of tomorrow vhs from 91.
Really want some ink by Dressen. Just got a set of his Formula Fours, and wouldn't mind that graphic on my leg
i had a dogtown dressen board in 1990
I use to build the original Elephant wrench...I worked at a skate shop in Anahiem Ca. The old man that owned it invented the Elephant wrench. We usdd to skate Sad Lands withthe moon craters. Tony Hawk skated it with us one day. killer times
VICE do documentary on Natas Kaupas, he is quiet one, but he is one man revolution :)
A 10 year old that gets to skate with the top skaters of the time, last of the free range kids. you will never see this time again, ever.
first vid i ever bought this guy killed it speedfreaks what a don
Hell yeah
Total legend!

Hi Eric!
Its weird hearing Hosoi talking about people who inspired him, its usually the other way round on Epicly later'd
I used to own a pair of 88s best skate shoes ever! 👟
eric dressen the man!
Just stopped watching Odd future vids ... and now theyre on vice :O
I bought his Spitfires, never heard of him before.

70s/80s/90s/00s/10s
Seems just like yesterday.
I love how the "street" contests were full of ramps.
You should see the street contests now, they are full of ramps... on the sides.
lord of board
Woah holy shit i just realized i could drag the cc thing around and im high as fuck this is awesome
dont watch them? genius.
Epicly ladders
getting more money ;)
Uuuuuu that little bowl
wonder if and how Tyler covered up that OF tat lmao
Well atleast not all hope is lost for vice. this was great.
the founding fucking fathers of skateboarding.... long before bridge bolts and the small wheel days, nevermind clean, tons of pop, catch before you land days. And today!? Forget it! Kids these days would look like super-human fuckin' aliens to the greats of the 80's and even 90's. Evolution, fuck yeah!
Eric Dressen thank you for everything you did for skateboarding 🛹 💨 #Legend
that's quite the accusation my friend
Yeah they must of fucked something up with the video scheduler
As a mid80s/early 90s streetskater who was influenced by Natas/Hensley.....I had and still have mad respect for Dressen. Dude rips
jason dill is upriver.
Really? honestly so many kids at my school skate. It seems like more people skate than don't.
Soon as I heard he worked on Fairfax I immediately thought shit he's bound to have fucked with OF. Then boom he works two doors down from Supreme.
Well see i thought it was "too" but i'm just really high so i'm like well fuck, and started over thinking it. But i know what you mean dude, kinda funny that i didn't realize that, but hey we all fuck up on shit like that.
five decades...? Only been 35 years since 1978...
If you're the only one that skateboards in your school, shouldn't that be a good thing?
so that's where salad grinds come from... but it's actually a windshield wiper
This is what happens when a channel becomes a view fein, a "sellout" if you wish to call it that. I myself don't mind because VICE is an awesome Jurno company.
36 people just don't know.
First seen Eric Dresden in a 411VM back in 1997 he ripped.
Oh DURING 5 decades... that's one of the most confusing things I've ever seen VICE write! I mean 78-13 is 35 years lol. so It came off as he's been pro for 50 years, a little over twice as long as he has actually been skating
That's how good Dressen was.
:)
that indian mini is worth some dough I bet
Gibbs Gaming they go for between 800 -1500 bucks (mint). They aren't really Indian's, a company bought the trademark and slapped it on them. They were fun little 50cc bikes and they were tiny (less than 2 feet tall and 50+ pounds). My cousin gave me his in the 80s and like everything else I wish I still had I sold it in the mid 90s.
Four decades not five
more videos = more advertisements = more money
TYLERRR
"Inaudible" = "Natas" (and) "Gonz"...as in Natas Kaupas and Mark Gonzales, kids.
More views for them, more money.
its a shame that skateboarding is dying out. I'm the only one at my school that skates
More accurately, "a skater who has been pro DURING 5 decades."
You can be pro during 5 decades and only been pro for 31 years.
He sounds kind of like Duane Peters
So hot!
Dressen is God!
Wait, if Dressen is god, what does that make his half sister's son?
***** Jesus
rtornellort radical as fuck
