I just learned how to cut my own hair. I used to pay $12 for a haircut in '07; now it's $40. I don't mind supporting someone's craft, but it became blatant price gouging.

Let's say a barber charges $40 for a standard haircut that takes 15 minutes. He is telling you his skillset is worth $160 per hour.

Back in HS cuts full haircut with fade was 15. Now the lowest i can find is $50-$75. Started to cut m y own hair.
0.5 around the sides. Fingerlength on top. Our local barbershops are at 22.50 per cut now. I ordered clippers and my wife has gotten good at a solid fade from CZcams. Inflation = cut out things that were killing us.

$22.50 is a great price if you're in the USA. I was paying $35-$45 before I decided to start cutting my own hair.

Barbers use to normal people, now it's a bunch of kids driving new BMWs, chains ect. I'm learning to do mine and my kids hair. Not paying for an inflated egos lifestyle. Not saying you specifically btw, just saying when I got to barbershops now a days seems like everyone idolizes barbers and back in the day it wasn't like that.

Exactly they say it cuz inflation but the riding expensive cars clothes chains and on vacation every month

I've been cutting my own hair with a Flowbee for about four years. Not a concern for me.

to be fair if someone has a more complex haircut that takes time to do correctly i get charging 25 or more dollars but if someone wants a simple 15 min haircut why should they pay as much as the guy that wants a simple 15 min haircut ? and 15 grand for a year while charging people 25 or more an hour is not expensive its a great deal
2:00 traditional haircuts used scissors. Is that not harder than a fade. I can fade myself. It’s hard to master perfectly but it isn’t difficult to do once you get it.
for real. Fade isn't that complicated and is done with clippers. Scissor cuts however are next level

As a plumber ill be sure to pass this information around to others in the field so we can start adjusting our pricing for barbers and their shops when plumbing or trade issues arise...

Pro tip to consumers… eliminate the middleman and just learn to cut ur own hair. Invest in a nice clipper and diy

I would pay $40 a week that’s a cool price and that barber would be good. I think as customers I have been paying $70 a cut and these barbers mess up my head it’s not cool. I think with barbers you guys have to get your skills and timing up. I think you guys are losing out on allots of money. I remember barbers use to be rich basically . Now with these prices it’s not looking so good
