    So I just ordered a JCM800 style Amp Build kit and I'm also ordering this piece to go along with it. Wish me luck!

    I'd love to learn more about electronics (repair, mods) in general. Can an FX loop be added without having to use a small circuit board like this one? I have two different amps that I'd like to have a loop on. An Orange tiny terror and also a Marshall MKII 50 watt combo amp... I think I could and would like to DIY it as a learning experience and it should be successful. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks, and thanks for the video!

      @Grangeramp  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yes, you can add a passive loop - just send and return jacks wired between the preamp and phase inverter. Many examples are online, including layouts by Ceriatone. Look there at the British amp series layouts. Also search for info on the differences in passive vs. active effects loops.

      @@Grangeramp Thank you. Checking into it...there's a lot of information. I found a few photos online of the Tiny Terroe with fx mods added. Some with just send/return jacks, and one that has level knobs for each! I would love that mod... Now how to do it... I sent the tech an email but no reply yet... Thanks again.

    I have a Laney Cub 8, there are only a tone and master volume control. I'm planning to put an effects loop, I thought it was just putting something in between the pre-amp and the power amp

    • @CurtGranger

      This, and most loops are installed between pre and power amp.

  • @circadevices

    With the loop "always on," would there have to be a jumper patch cable used if just going to in the front of the amp?

    • @CurtGranger
      @CurtGranger Před rokem +1

      No, the signal will pass through when the loop is enabled, if nothing is plugged into the send and return jacks. No jumper needed.

    • @Grangeramp
      @Grangeramp  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes, it should install fine. The jacks are spaced 1.5 inches apart, so if that's the passive loop's hole spacing in the chassis, it will be a straightforward install, with the addition of the one extra hole for the bypass switch. Alternately, you can forego the switch and wire the loop always on if you'd like.

    • @CurtGranger
      @CurtGranger Před 5 lety

      Yes, I have specific instructions written for the DSL15C. It is not footswitchable - for that you'd need to install a powered DPDT relay (which I also sell in the Granger Amplification Custom Shop - 1 Relay Switch Board) and wire accordingly. Easy enough for any experienced amp tech.

      @@lukejohnson7558 there's one place it will fit and that's where the Marshall print is. There's a pre-cut slot for wire routing, that's where I mark the center bypass switch to go. Bend that tab up and widen the hole slightly, then drill 2 more for the jacks. It's all in the instructions.

    Do you think someone who can solder a little and has the right instructions is quallified to do this for personal use?

    • @Grangeramp
      @Grangeramp  Před 9 lety

      Patrick It's one of the simplest of our kits to install, however you do need to know proper electronics safety when working with any amplifier. The instructions are step-by-step, and very detailed. I can't advise to that specific model amp, however. That amp is likely all solid-state, and would not have the proper supply voltage required.

    • @Patrick33194
      @Patrick33194 Před 9 lety

      Granger Amplification it does have a tube in the preamp, with a power switch which you can turn from 5 to 60watt and everything between and it uses amp simulators and inbuild effects.
      what do you mean by the proper supply voltage?
      and i'm not really planning to instal a fx loop in it now, but i just wondered.
      i ám planning to do some pickup re wire mods for other configurations, but i bought a 35 euro guitar to practice it on in case i screw up, so i have no worries for that.

      Brian Cullen Sorry for the very late reply. (We stay busy!) Very similar to the Mojo and Metro loops. All very good quality. For safety procedures when working with tube amps, there are some very good sources online that explain this in detail. As every amp is different, we only provide basic advice for draining the power supply.

    How do these compare to the metro zero loss effects loops?

    • @Grangeramp
      @Grangeramp  Před 7 lety

      Very similar. I've never examined one of the Metro loops, but believe they also use the LDN150 MOSFET as the active devices, as both use a node from the B+ supply to power the board. I use board-mounted trim pots located behind each jack to set levels. I believe theirs uses separate chassis mount pots.

    It would be interesting also a video on how to mount the Variable Power Control - VPC1 Kit for those like me who do not understand electronics. The fact of not knowing where to put your hands and always having to resort to a technician for installation discourages me to buy the mods.

    • @Grangeramp
      @Grangeramp  Před 9 lety +2

      Dario Van Halen I understand your concern, however we can only provide limited tutorials/instructions, because as you know, there are literally 1000's of amp models, and what works for one will probably be different for another (especially when modifying a high voltage power supply), and would only add confusion. Modifying tube amps is generally not for the beginner electronics enthusiast. What I recommend is to start with low voltage effect pedals, and once the student's knowledge of electronics is sufficient, then advance to vacuum tube amps.
