That Forester is ready for some real work! Love that wheel/tire combo.
Thanks man! I'm so excited for this car. And the lift and wheel/tire combo just got me that much more excited to start getting this thing rocking.
Thanks,
Rick
Great series guys! Love it! Just like my red Forester XT. I've had several turbo charged cars in the past and the forester xt is by far the funnest due to it's higher clearance, spacious trunk, power and sleeper status. Keep 'em coming guys! Love the series!
Will these 15 inch wheels fit an xt with no lift?
This is perfect, I like that you dont need to change fenders and bumpers and you got enough clearance for some normal offroading. For extreme you anyway need some vehicle with chassis.
Just got a 06 xt, found these videos and binged watched them. Makes me want to completely mod the hell out of it now. Thanks. 😉 but really i need a new episode asap😩
Awesome and glad you're enjoying the build. We will have some new episodes out soon and we have something pretty big planned :)
Thanks,
Rick
I love seeing lifted subies!!!
Thanks and this one just recently got a nice little upgrade and I'm hoping to have the video out soon.. ish. lol
thanks,
rick
Hell yeah, she’s on her way!
Little by little LOL. These mods really got me way excited about this though, I can't believe how good it looks!
Thanks,
Rick
I just purchased a ‘05 Forester XT last night..... I can’t wait to do my off road build!!!!
Yes!!! Such a perfect platform for a decent off-roader!
Thanks,
Rick
@@rallysportdirect When do we get to see the next episode??
Method wheels. My man! And WHAT A JUMP IN VIDEO QUALITY!! That Foz is SIIIIICK! Bring it on Rick! I need more!
Thank you so much man! I know you've watched most of these so that means a lot coming from you. I've been trying hard to up the quality recently as I felt it was severely lacking. Also.... There are some interesting things in the works for this project right now.. I won't say any more but you'll know here in the next few weeks. ;)
Thanks again!!
Rick
RallySport Direct hella pumped! I love this series and just watching what you put up. You guys are where I buy all my performance parts when I can put together the money, so it’s great seeing the passion, products, and quality! Fantastic job! You da man Rick!
I just did this in my drive way by myself. It was not as easy as this video made it look
Looks really good!
Thanks man! It's amazing how a few parts can completely transform the car. We should have done this at the beginning LOL.
Thanks,
Rick
That thing is sick!
Looks great
Great video! Just purchased a 2018 Forester XT. Looking to lift and add bigger tires as well, keep up the videos!!
Thank you! and congrats on the new FXT! Truly an amazing platform to start with. :)
Thanks,
Rick
I have a 2014 XT. You'll need at least a 17" wheel to clear the rotors. Dont make the mistake I did and buy 15" Methods that wouldn't fit. Just a heads up 😉
14 xt i went with the rough country lifted struts front and rear 2 inch no spacers easy swap in and out
Just need to ditch the stock splash guards and get some mudflaps on that thing! Turning out to be a really awesome build so far!
that's in the plans for sure :)
Thanks!
Rick
RallyX at UMC this weekend, with the rain it should be a good time and potential fun for this thang :)
I still have to fix the boost leak LOL. I'll try to get that done this week :)
Thanks,
Rick
Nice job🇺🇸🇺🇸
omgggg i need to do this to my 03 forester
100%, it's amazing how a few mods can bring a total transformation into these Foresters, and really does turn them into fairly competent off-road machines :)
Thanks,
Rick
I have an ADF 2 inch lift and this exact tire wheel setup. Lots of tire rub on the fender wall. Time to start cutting
Running a similar setup to this on my 2004 Forester XT, and it is *WIN*
Nice! What do you run for under body protection? Just curious. But yeah it's amazing how easy it is to make these into awesome(and awesome looking) little off-road beasts!
Thanks,
Rick
Hi Rick, I swapped out the plastic engine guard for a thick Primitive skidplate. Rear diff protected by a Subaru rear diff protector. Thinking of adding some hard plastic in the rear to protect the rear axle boots, as they get *PELTED* by rocks/debris while rallycrossing. Can't wait for your next episode, love it! Cheers!
i want this look. what wheels and tires can i get using stock suspension?
ne4ious stock offset is +45. His wheels are +15 so his tire sticks out. With his offset you have to raise your Subaru. With stock offset 215/65 or 70/16. Or 225/60/16. On my 04 215/70/15 with +15 offset raised
Looks good! Show us off road performance please!
Nice! So quick question, the forester and Toyota Highlander use the same strut system so theoretically the kit could be comparable? Cheers!
I wanna do this with mine. I'll probably change my struts too when i do come around to doing this.
Yes! Such a cool setup! Also never a bad idea to get fresh struts as well :)
Thanks,
Rick
@@rallysportdirect will these spacers fit on coilovers as well
on the forester, doing the rear struts is essential
#SelfLevellingRearStruts
refreshing to see a forester built to IMPROVE what it was made to do in the first place :') bored of all the slammed parking lot queens ahaha
I think you're really going to like what we have done to this car behind the scenes. I'll be doing an update here soon :)
Thanks,
Rick
sounds good!!! will be waiting :)
Thanks for the vid! I’m finally going to do work on my ‘05 FXT. Lift spacers have been purchased but will be using stock control arms. With that said, will I need 1 or 2 sets of camber bolts for front & rear? Just want to make sure..... Thanks & keep up the great work!
depending on the lift height you may be able to get away with the stock camber bolts up front. Might not be a bad idea to get a set for both front and rear just to be safe.
Thanks,
Rick
Miss these updates!!
Me too! I miss working on it. We had a umm.. issue, and are working in the background and coming up with a plan to get this back on the road. Sorry about the delays! this was not the original plan, but when you're dealing with a 250K mile turbo Subaru, something is bound to go wrong, right? ;)
Thanks,
Rick
RallySport Direct I literally bought everything on ep.2 cause of this series haha
@@SmoothCruzz Awesome!!! Really is such a killer setup!
Thanks,
Rick
Love the vid. Maybe think about putting some sound dampening in the garage
We are working on it, but man were going to need a metric ton of foam for that
Got 16x7+15 215/70/16 n it killed my liner n mug guards!!
🔥👍👏
Looks badass. How much does the labor for a job like this cost?
Rick I have this same setup on my 04 XT but this tire size doesn’t fit my front when I turn. Do you think you can shed a little light?
Are you rubbing a bit under full lock? Most people end up massaging down the spine on the rear of the fender well to allow for proper clearance. If you do that, you should not rub any more :)
Thanks,
Rick
I own a 98 forester, so I need to know what if any differences in the suspension would be so I can lift mine properly, because I currently live in snow country, and I want better traction and clearance for my car.I'm gonna get an led light bar for the roof of It (I don't use the roof rack,so it'll probably go there) and probably modify the bumper for some fog lights.
Can i install the lift kit only without the camber bolts and the trailarm spacers? Can i use the oem camber bolts and the trailarm spacers are neccesary for this application?
this is pretty much what I want to do with my 2018 Forester (except i want to 2 inch front 2.5 inch rear) but I am a total nub with car stuff. I dont understand if this will fit or not. Is there some sort of website that can calculate these things for me?
She's gorgeous! Would this kit work on a 3rd gen 2009?
Excellent build. I have an 04 XT and will look to do the same. Thank you for clarifying the trailing arm spacer situation as well. I am doing 1.5 inch strut spacers and didn't know whether to go with a 2 inch or 1 inch trailing arm kit. Just a couple questions here: Is the downpipe swap you did prior primarily responsible for the deep exhaust sound? Also, would you recommend the BF Goodrich tires for someone that wants A/T tire but primarily drives on highway (I want low noise and comfortability as much as possible)?
Awesome! I would probably go with the 2inch spacers, it should help keep the alignment perfect even when the suspension droops a bit. And the Downpipe certainly added to the sound for sure. The Tomei exhaust on the factory downpipe still sound amazing, but just not quite as good as this LOL. And for the tires, BFGoodrich can't be beat. For a daily I might go with the K02's as opposed to the KM's as they are more civil on the highway yet still incredibly capable off-road.
Let us know if you have any other questions!!
Thanks,
Rick
@@rallysportdirect Thank you for the reply. I'm looking to do the same size tires. I'm trying to calculate in my head why the TA offset would be greater than the lift though... Isn't the point of the TA spacer to center the wheels after elongating the strut space? How would a 2 inch TA spacer be better than a 1.5 inch TA spacer given that we are working with a 1.5 inch lift?
@@thespecter2 you should always match up your lift kit (strut) spacer size with the same size Trailing Arm (TA) spacer, unless you are running a larger than stock diameter tire or lift springs with your setup. In that case, like this Torquester project, you would want to run the 2" Trailing Arm spacer.
Nice car ! Which brand crossbars?
Will the 15 inch method wheels fit a stock 2004 forester xt? I’d like to go with the wheels but without the lift for now
Great video....but wondering how would I use the camber bolts for the stick rear sub-frame?
More specifically, where do I stick them exactly?
Thank you!
Great question, so on the rear struts, use the camber bolts in the upper most bolt location where the strut bolts to the knuckle. So you just remove the stock bolt, pop in the camber bolt and adjust to suite your needs :)
Thanks,
Rick
I love this build and am planning to do this to my car. It's a 2016 SJ Forester. I was wondering if you had any problems with the tire rubbing up against the wheel well when at steering lock?
Camber bolts are just for the front right? Will the rear require the SS rear camber correction control arms?
We notice it when going full lock around a corner, so we ended up "massaging" the inner rear fender well pinch weld and that cured it 100% :)
Thanks,
Rick
I think the outback has more offroadability because it has more ground clearance also it has more HP
I have a 2004 xt will the 15x7 clear the stock caipers?
"Great job" - especially using so corroded parts 1:53 with a new stuff without removing corrosion and repainting.. XD Thank You!!!
Bigger turbo, intercooler, injectors, etc. coming in the build later on??
You know it! :)
Thanks,
Rick
So how much of a lift did this add to the forester? Was it a 2” lift?
Would those wheels and tires of fit before the lift ?
I have used used 2" spacers now, do I have to removed struts before mounting the Multi Link spacers or can they be done now without removing struts. 2009 Forester
For the arm spacers you won't have to remove the strut, but I always find it's easiest to do with the struts off the car as you just have less weight on the assembly and less in your way, but honestly you can go about it either way.
Thanks,
Rick
I was going to get a 4'' ADF lift for my 04 XT on tax return but now I'll have to check out Subtle Solutions. Any recommendations on a solid lift kit? Thumbs up on the video, thanks.
Adf is the only one I have seen that 100% stands behind their product line, also for the price of the adf kit you can install it without pressing out all the old strut hardware because the tophats are offset
when using the half inch and inch spacer kit recommended to lift. What hardware do you use that will accommodate the total 1.5 lift are the bolts included with the kit long enough?
The solid 1.5" strut spacers for this vehicle are part numbers: #SUS-150F-ABK (fronts) and #SUS-150R-ABK. If you order the 1" aluminum and add a 1/2" HDPE on top, you will need longer bolts to work with that combo.
It looks like you're installing the 1.5inch spacers, however I don't see this size on Rally Sports' website? Also, do the trailing arm spacers have to match the lift spacers? Thanks for any info :). I'm having a difficult time deciding on which size wheels and tires to go with..I currently have 215/65/R16 Falken AT tires on the stock wheels :\.
Yes, we manufacture the front 1.5" and rear 1.5" strut spacers for this lift kit. I'm not sure why RallysportDirect does not have them listed on their website. They are one of our dealers. Yes, you would want to match the trailing arm spacers to the total lift that you are installing. Some people go with the 2" TA spacers if they are running a much larger than stock offroad tire for extra clearance, or if they have springs paired up with the lift kit.
Are the tires quiet on the road?
I want to do this on a 99 legacy Outback any suggestions for parts ?
Sick!! Shouts from NZ! You have a kit for a 2002 legacy wagon ltd?
Yes, we (Subtle Solutions) have a lift kit and various sized lift spacers for your 2002 Subaru Legacy. Rallysportdirect should have everything listed on their website for your vehicle.
Which lift kit? I see two in the links provided
Which lug nuts did they use?
I am a bit confused. The video you show one 1.5 inch spacer for each side. Your links call for one 1" and one 1/2" spacers? Do you just stack them together? Different than your video it seems?
The correct 1.5" strut spacers for this build are a solid one-piece design. Part Numbers: #SUS-150F-ABK (fronts) and #SUS-150R-ABK (rears).
Hello, what type of roof rack is on your Forester ???
How bad do you think it tanks the gas mileage?
Would those spacers allow my brembos to fit? I assume I'd have to swap back to stock (currently STI) suspension as well? Neat build.
I doubt it, I don't know of any 15inch wheels that will clear OE brembos, even with the spacers. Most you could do would be the OE 4-pots found on the older WRX's and STI's
Thanks,
Rick
I like to buy the whole set up didn't find the link below 🤔
Rick I need a splitter for my 06 forester, have sti tmic which splitter fits the forester best .
Check out our (04-08) Forester XT - Hoodscoop Splitter. In stock at Rallysport. Part #ENG-3000-BLK. It is designed to work with our "chimney duct" as well as the STI TMIC and JDM V7 STI Hoodscoop.
all else equal (same lift , same wheels ) 114.3 bolt pattern works also ( 20 Forester)? great vid..
Yeah, in fact you should have a bit more clearance everywhere, so less chance of rubbing with your 20 Forester. :)
Thanks,
Rick
Does the 15 inch rims clear the brake calipers or do you have to grind them down?
they fit perfect :)
I am looking at the same wheels and tire size. After doing your install do you think I could get away with a 1" lift instead of the 1.5"?
I imagine that would be just fine :)
Thank you! I was literally just asking this question to the local tire shop. I'm running 215/65/R16s myself and want the same size wheels. He said stock would probably rub, but I don't want to spend a ton on lifting :)
Have you change anything in order to stay on the same gimbal level or 1.5 inches it's just the limit !? nice and helpful vidéo by the way..
1.5 is about as high as you want to go before you start running into issues. You can go higher of course, but it requires more mods to bring alignment back into spec, as well as potential axle issue among other things.
Thanks,
rick
Great videos Rick. What would you recommend for the Forester as an upgrade over OEM for the shock absorber/dampers. I need something to deal with hours/days of corrugated outback roads in central Australia. Many vehicles experience shock failure, I presume, from getting hot and blowing seals. Recommendation appreciated. Evan, Perth Western Australia.
KYB struts paired with King Springs (which, being in Australia, you can get cheaper than the rest of us)!
I put the exact same lift, wheels and tires on my 05 xt. Does rub when turning but think I can fix with a little trimming
Yeah we had to do a tinny bit of massaging in the rear fender area to get 100% clearance under all conditions. You're going to love it once you get the rubbing figured out :)
Thanks,
Rick
Where and how to do trimming?
On mine had to fold down the pinch weld and trim the inner fender at the mud guard
Hi can this also work on a 2007 Subaru Forester cross sport japanese spec?
Did you have any issues with rubbing? Im planning to do this with my 04 forester.
You shouldn't rub with the wheels and tires we used.
@@rallysportdirect Thanks mate, much appreciated
Did you need to hammer the pinch welds for these tires to fit?
Just a bit, it would only rub in certain situations, so we did a little massaging and now everything fits perfectly with no rubbing.
Thanks,
Rick
Is there a kit for an 09 Mazda 3 Hatchback..... asking for a friend..
I know this video is a lil old but could this set up be ran on a 04 wrx? If not what tire would work
You could for sure run a lift on a 04 WRX, now in regards to the tire and wheel size, I'm not 100% sure on that to be honest, but I do know people lift them often.
Thanks,
Rick
Hi do i also need to use camber bolts for the rear suspension?
Yeah you would want to get the camber bolts or the adjustable rear control arms to get the camber back into spec.
Thanks!
Rick
Did you have to use spacer
You left out the part where you pound the pinch weld in the wheel well flat so you don't cut your tires when the suspension is under compression with the wheel turned.
Hey Rick sick build man!! But “Y U NO HAVE FLEX FUEL???”” Have an 04 Fozzy Xt and want to get that flex fuel kit but I don’t see it on ur website!??? Lmk if u can get that for me
Cobb does not offer flex fuel at this moment for the 04 FXT yet. Was there a kit out there that you saw that I missed?
Thanks,
Rick
RallySport Direct no I just thought they had made one for the 04. I seen they have one for an 05. I would have to swap my ecu to an 05
Can you fit 215/75/15 with those wheels, but stock height? I plan on buying those Method Racing wheels +15, but I'm not lifting it. Stock struts.
Did you end up finding out?
If only My XS could evolve into the XT... 😂😂😂
Usually the forester has factory strut spacers
Can i pick up locally? (slc)
Any issues with the rear axles popping out of the housing?
Nope, not even when it was pushing 500+ wheel horsepower.
What did you guys break on it in the last episode.
Giant boost leak somewhere that I'll try to address this week :)
Thanks,
Rick
do i need the lift to run the wheels and tires?
Im honestly thinking about selling my 01 Tacoma 4 dr TRD and getting one of these.
drum4life42 if you’re a snow guy I would recommend it
Will the lift fit on a 2003 Forester 2.5X?
If you ever see this, yes.
Can I do wheels and tires without lifting ? And can I do this set up on a 2008 ?
I want to know too! Anyone?
What year is that.?
I have some black rhino rumble wheels with a 3" adf lift would 235/75r15 fit or am I stuck with 215s😭
The stock location spring perches will rub on the 235s, you will need to go with something like a Coilover setup to make those tires work.
Thanks,
Biggie
Whats the gas mileage difference once you lifted the subaru and added the wheels?
I don't have an exact number, but we lost around 3mpg with this setup. Hope this helps :)
Thanks,
Rick
What size are those tires?
Can you run that wheel/tire set up without the lift without much rubbing?
We did run a bit under full lock, but a bit of massaging to the front fender wells took care of that :)
Thanks,
Rick
Chasing the same info please Rick. Wanting this setup on my 11 foz, looks so sweet. Wondering if it's possible without the lift at stock height. Was that rubbing to the fender at stock height or after the lift?
Cheers. Appreciate the vid 🙏
What happened to this build? Still going or put to the side?
Will it rub on the finders when turning with no lift kit install?
Itsyoboijake D. Short answer yes
Are there any quick release sway bar endlink options for Subaru?
I'm going to be on the hunt for them soon enough :)
Thanks,
Rick
Also let me know if you come across any before I do LOL.
Thanks,
Rick
What do you torque those aluminum lugs at?
Factory torque specs :)
Thanks
Rick
Hello, how many inches has this car been raised? I'm Chinese, and my English is not very good.
Does the tire rub when fully turning the steering wheel?
Edwin Martinez not with the lift
How do you get the strut to fit after you add the spacer. My hub doesnt look like it can drop low enough.
Just had the same problem today! Would love to get the answer.
Use another jack
You will need to unhook the sway bars to install the strut back into the shock tower. You are fighting the sway bar if you do not unhook them during the install.
Are the camber bolts just for the rear? Or front and rear?
Just for the rear. The front bolts have camber adjustment built in.
Can I run this on a 2002 subaru forester s?
You bet, these will all be a direct bolt on for your Fozzy :)
Thanks,
Rick
witch kit should i use for my 2010 forester ??
Check out the 1.5" Lift Kit w/ 1.5" RA Kit for your 2010 Forester (SH Chassis). You always want to match the strut lift spacer size with a matching "RA" rear alignment kit to keep the geometry and alignment in correct stock location.
