In this tutorial I am demonstrating a spinning straight pour with the cloudy effect on a 20x20in canvas and I'm going for the boulder cells and using a rainbow palette. I'm loving the results. The paints I used were Decoart Americana Decor Satin Enamel in Pure White & Liquitex Basics Dioxazine Purple and Titanium White, Phthalo Blue, Phthalo Green, Quinacridone Magenta, Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue and Artist's Loft Orange. The satin enamels are mixed 50/50 with the colors to achieve the cloudy effect.

I think you are smart to cover the sides first, allowing you to use less paint and not have to dump a lot off, just to cover edges, and avoid thick cracking. LOVE watching you. Your colors are yummy!
I saw like 10 awesome stages this beauty had!! How to know when to stop?? 😍 The cells are extraordinary. It looks ALIVE. I think I would hang it with *the opening* to the top.
Love this and the formula, etc. I tried two paintings and had lots of air bubbles like you did. The next two I tried I put gac 800 and liquitex gloss medium into each color, etc and hardly any air bubbles. Yay!

When I use white house paint do I add floral to it.?
I have no experience with using house paint.
I have another question. Have you tried the different colors of satin enamel?? I wonder if mixing them with other paints you'd still get cloudy. I don't like the idea of lightening up all my colors 1/2 white in each one.?? I just saw today how many Beautiful color's are available in the satin enamel. 💞
I’m confused. In the beginning of the video you said the colors were mixed 1:1 with satin enamel. Later you said they were mixed 2:1 with Floetrol. Does that mean you take the satin enamel mixture and further dilute with Floetrol?
Satin enamel does not thin the paint down. It is not a pouring medium. Gina uses Floetrol as her pouring medium and is mixed 2:1 with the paint and satin enamel mix.
I was confused about that too, but the reply didn't clear it up for me. Did it for you?
Satin enamel added 1:1 to colored paint. That mixture then gets Floetrol added 1paint:2floetrol. That mixture, if needed, is then thinned with 90%water:10%Floetrol mixture to thin.

I'm confused, in the description it says 50/50 satin enamel and below that it says paint 1 floetrol 2. What does that mean? Are you also mixing floetrol with the satin enamel? Thanks is gorgeous as always ❤

I don’t know. Decoart paints are matte. I don’t know what behr is. I haven’t used it.
Mad respect for this amazing job. Its hard to do!!! But i wanted you to know i gave it a try i plan to NOT reverse the instructions you gave NEXT TIME.... mostly you need to turn canvas slowly and pour rather quickly ... go to MY very basic channel and SEE the reverse RESULT!! I cannot say how YOU personally have never let me down on how you teach ( i finally got a real cloud pour result!) the work you do here is singularly UNIQUE. A class of your own!! Thanks Gina! I will continue to tell ppl to start with your videos ( & a few other OG pouring legends) if they want to earn how to do it Right! I will practice more.
I've been watching your videos and still haven't figured out what is in your background paint. This video, you said Liquitex purple and brightened with white. But you have too much in that cup and it's too liquidity. I tried your formula last night...failed. But I used the same formula in the background as for the colors. This video says no satin enamel should be in the base. I'm sorry if Ive missed it, but I've watched about 6 videos and read your descriptions and still can't figure it out. Are you mixing the background 1 pt paint with 2 parts floetrol and thinning with 90% water, 10% Floetrol. Do you thin it at all? Also, are you using US or Australian Floetrol? Thanks in advance for for assist. I'm tired of failures.
It sounds like you’ve got the concept down. My mix is not too liquidy. My mix is as thick as you can go and still get the effect. I have mixed many even thinner. Thinner paint leads to instability, which gives you cells. There is no satin enamel in background color or basecoat. I am using American Floetrol 1paint:2floetrol. I thin with 90/10 mix. Most tube paints will require thinning. Are you using the exact same paints? Not all paints are created equal. Any substitutions will change the results.
You say that the cells are formed by a hydrophobic effect rather than Rayleigh Taylor. I'm struggling to understand how this happens in wet water based paint, are you able to explain a bit more, or give me a pointer to where this info came from so that I can do my own research? Thanks.
The cells when dry look matte compared to the color that didn’t cell. It can still be hydrophobic when wet. Silicone is hydrophobic. Oil is hydrophobic. Whatever makes the paint matte, is pushing the other paints away.
@@GinaDeLuca Thank you. Yes, I understand the action of oils, but was assuming that as the paint is waterbased it would be free of such substances. I doubt we'll get to find out what this particular ingredient is. I think there is a Rayleigh Taylor effect going on too though.
