I agree. My hubby Was a mate of Dave's, as a teenager, and also when he was older. He said Dave would showoff, with his diving to impress the girls 😂 He came around to hubby's place, and had arranged an interview for him, as an apprentice electrical engineer. Hubby took it on, but his Mum and Gran could not afford the books, and wage was low. He left and became a carpet/layer. Hubby was good at playing the guitar, he went to the royal College of music, Cardiff, for a bit. We meet Dave when he came to Australia, he hadn't changed, and never forgot my hubby. We went to his concert, invited to the after party 👍, but we had 3 young children at the time, so couldn't go. Good memories 👍
I first heard this in 1968 when I was 15 and I have loved it ever since. If Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton or Slash had done this everybody would be singing their praises. This man is a great guitarist but never ever gets the recognition he deserves. One day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Only just seen and read this hence the late post. An incredible guy from my home town who I briefly met many many years ago in the 60's. I've also known of and met some of the local guys that played in his bands. As have been said, a talented, brilliant underrated guitarist who had been involved as a musical director and producer and has collaborated with top class musicians and bands. He also played the role of Alex in the 1974 film Stardust along with David Essex, Paul Nicholas, America's Larry Hagman and other British stars and yes, he definitely should be in the Musicians Hall of Fame.
One of the greatest performances by one of the greatest guitarists ever. 40th anniversary of it reaching the top 5 in the UK chart (Dave was part of Love Sculpture)
I never heard of Dave Edmunds before seeing this. But this, this is definitely one of the top greatest rock guitar performances ever. This is sheer, unadulterated genius!
The "Sabre Dance" is a movement in the final act of the Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian's ballet Gayane, completed in 1942. It evokes a whirling war dance in an Armenian dance, where the dancers display their skill with sabres. Due to its exceptionally exciting rhythm, the Sabre Dance established a place for itself in common concert practice, leading also to various adaptations in popular music. In its middle section it uses an Armenian folk song from Gyumri, Armenia. (Thanks, Wikipedia)
Listen too the love sculpture album “forms and feelings” and you will hear him play this song for 13 minutes. This was good but the album kills it! I have been listening to it since 1970.
For ever❤️
I saw Love Sculpture perform this at my local community centre, aged 15, when it was first released as a single in the UK in 1968. Set me on a 50 + year long musical career. Still love it.
Oh, that great feeling when you're both inside the music, and the music is inside you.I miss that so much at 57 as an ex-heavy metal guitarist and singer.
amazing, one of the greatest solos of all time, also many critics say that his studio version with Love Sculpture was speeded up by studio technology, this prooves them wrong, spped technique and a discernable tune
@@Brother_MarkG ...I really do like & admire Dave Edmunds' versions of these famous classical pieces very much. I love Dave Edmunds. A legend. This is one of my all time favourites. Been trying to find a video of him playing this in some exotic location on a wall. Can't recall if it was the Great Wall of China, but this video will do. Sabre Dance is a classic and Dave makes it ROCK !!!!!!!
Awesome! A friend of mine was in a cabaret band in the 80's and they used to play this!!!!!! Just as good as the original! The guitarist is now in a band with his 2 sons and he STILL plays it today!
The fact there arevery few other guitar covers of this online indicates , I think, it's difficulty. Edmunds is a great guitarist and this is a rocking version !
I saw him play this at Loughborough University with his Love Sculpture band (probably 1970) many years ago. We were blown away by it. They also did a very good version of the Beatles' "A day in the life" as I remember too.
I'm sure someone must have brought it to his attention, he lived 10 years after the Love Sculpture recording came out, and was still very active (conducting at least) until the end

I remember seeing these concerts on the TV back in 1992. There was a series of 4 or 5 from Seville, one show for rock, one for blues, and so on. On this show Dave also played alongside Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Brian May, Joe Walsh and a couple of others.
I am sure I can remember Dave Edmunds along with Steve Cropper covering “Standing At The Crossroads” (written by the Bard of The Thames Estuary Mr.Mickey Jupp). It must be on CZcams somewhere.
Brilliant - just bloody Fantastic to hear this masterpiece again - Love Dave Edmunds music - Long Live Live Rock Music - Thanks a Million for sharing :)
This is a revelation to me in terms of highlighting Dave Edmunds' virtuosity on guitar. Similarly if you haven't already seen it check out Glen Campbell playing the William Tell overture on here.
