There's a lot of things I like about Gears 5. Like the hit markers, weapon skins, and special dialogs they added. I do wish they brought back the Loot Boxes, though.

I for one just want some better consistency in the next gears. and for the love of God just because e sports are finished doesn't mean u you don't have to update the matchmaking. It is wild some of the stuff that happens in lobbies.
Love everything you said in this one, Icy. It's the hard truth that ppl who like this game don't want to hear. Just take the ease of sniping from gears 2-5 as a prime example in skill gap. It's a joke how much point and click has made its way into our beloved Gears of War. And the slow walking is so comical to watch LOL.

Gears 5 is an opportunity game. It was their attempt to draw in more players and give them the opportunity to be good at the tough franchise we call Gears of War.

Obvi they’re not trying, one game I played against a few optic players on reclaimed and rhey only used pistols, but for me to go positive then and almost aspire to go pro, thinking if I committed then there’s a chance..then G5 come out and that dream died immediately

Sbmm and ones skill is a big factor on their experience in game. It happens in MW too. My entire team will go severely negative get devastated by absolute demons and I’ll be playing for my life playing obj and struggling to get to a respectable kd. As much as I hate Sbmm It’s not satisfying bullying on kids that aren’t good at the game. You can still force your will upon elite players it just takes me to dip into a flow state. A state where you become an extension of the game. You have totally control and command. You’re reading the situation and your enemy perfectly and you know what they’re going to do before they even know it.

Halo and gears are definitely catering to casual gamers and that’s why they have little to no competitive scene. Since halo 4 the outside circle part of the BR reticle only needs to glance the edge of the player model for it to be registered as a hit. Also they don’t put a matchmaking emphasis on region so everyone has wildly different pings. Crazy big hit boxes and wild pings = death when you think you’re safe around the corner.
Honestly i used to think of gears like playjng chess you move into one cover see what their move is and move accordingly but thus game gears 5 is like the COD of Gears where you die respawn and die and respawn miss the spawn flips all of that now we got us spawning next to or behind enemies

I have been trying to highlight this problem for years and it's like talking to a brick wall
The skill gap has been artificially reduced. Things such as increased Lancer rate of fire causes new players to be more effective than they should realistically be, meanwhile, shot delay reduces how effective a skilled player can be.
In turn, it forces everyone into an artificial middle ground where nobody's true skill is accurately reflected. Bad players don't perform as bad as they should, skilled players don't stand out as they should
ALL of the complaints towards bouncing and Gnasher play put us in this boring state whereby everyone plays the same because low skill tactics are assisted and high skill tactics are limited or removed
Nobody will ever stand out when the game rewards you for being new and discourages from attempting a higher level play

Exactly bro, These gears 5 kids hop on an older game like 4 or something and cant wallbounce and cant hit a shot to save their life..
Also with you being able to see how good of a shot you got off on somebody; With there being a spread mechanic, Theres no reason to use the covers cause you will know exactly how hurt you made the other person, It really is the easiest gears and still baffles me how some of your teammates can maage to go more than 6-8x negative most games

icy usually your takes are on point and most of this video is, but the part about it being the ONLY game you get punished for shooting you gun is incorrect. it happens CONSTANTLY in halo and overwatch/paladins, and somewhat in some other shooters
however, i will say gears most certainly is the one that punishes the hardest and the most frequent for shooting your gun, but not the only.

Gears 5 is my first ever gears game, and its horrible. It has everything to be great, everything is soo unique... but the game itself is trash. Other games rewards you for playing it, but not gears 5, no. It actually feels like you're getting punished for playing it. For every 99 in 2, every camo skin, every hit mark on a BOOMshot... I can almost hear TC whispering : "Thats what you get, thats what you get ".
