  • This video is Part 2 in the Basic Shed Framing series. It presents some basic concepts on creating a vary basic Stud Wall. In the video I use the Part Workbench and the Draft Workbench to complete the task.

This video is 4 years old now; would you still do everything the same way that you did in the video, or have you learned better techniques since then? If so, it would be nice to see you build a whole shed or chicken coop from scratch in FreeCAD.

Very helpful videos. Are you able to advise how to cut the ends of joists to meet an intersecting member at an angle. Imagine a timber triangle on a flat plane (say x-y) viewing in top mode and wanting to place intermediate joists between 2 sides of the triangle. Obviously the ends of the intermediates will not meet the other sides at right angles always so the ends need to be cut at an angle to meet the triangle side flush. Is there a way FreeCad can cut the ends automatically and calculate the cut angle (do it) for you? Thanks

I installed current version of FreeCAD but I don't see the same icons in the toolbars as yours. Which add-ons and toolbars have you added? Thanks.

Great video. Once I have created my shed frame I want to create a schedule of parts for cutting ie how many studs of x length etc do you know if this can be done in Freecad?

Where is the option to switch on the orientation cube that you have in the top right-hand corner of your drawing?

That is the navicube it is in the daily build version if freecad 0.18 and up.

What magic did you use to have the tool bars stay "in place"? When I am in Part Design" and toggle Sketch, my Constraint Toolbar is nearly off the screen. I have moved many of them around, even undocking them and letting them float on the drawing area. They revert when I start a new session.

That's a bit of a sore spot with me. But there is an add-on called persistent toolbars. You can also edit that in the parameters tool in the edit menu. to be clear I just spent the last two days having to constantly re-enable toolbars .. .

@@mathcodeprint 0.17 is not ready for being referred to as a Beta. I have spent a LOT of time yesterday and today attempting to symmetrically constrain a rectangular sketch. The results wander all over. IF they even allow selection at times. Way to often .17 will not allow me to select the origin point for reference. And the forums are a joke.

Hey Bruce, you have my sympathy. I'm not sure they even call it a beta. The first thing that most people say about FreeCAD is that it has a steep learning curve. I think I am coming out of the other end of that curve after playing for two years. I probably should put a warning on all my videos. Something like "may lead to physical damage to your computer display". Then put the picture of the duck hitting the computer screen with a hammer. I will tell you this that I am enjoying FreeCAD now.

8' - 3*1.5"= 91.5" or 7' 7 1/2" ?? If you want to account for 1/2" drywall for celiing, then probably need to account for flooring, usually 5/8" per forums...sorry just trying to follow with measurements as I want to setup plans for my house on freecad....

Try the flooring vid he mentions... I play it at .75 speed, stopping and repeating and it's manageable...
