I've loved this song since it came out in late 1995, almost 30 years ago. I still remember the first few times watching this video as well as "Stupid Girl" and "Queer" on MTV. At that time Garbage were something new and original as Grunge, Shoegaze and Britpop had been during the 90's.
You nailed it, Michael. I was there directing music videos at this time. I'm very happy to hear that Garbage just covered a Siouxie and the Banshees song too!
What puts this song over the top artistically is the chorus. When she starts singing "Poooooour your misery down on me," it almost feels as if it's literally raining rock n' roll. Perfect execution from Shirley Manson.

Something extremely ironic about how cheerful and upbeat this song is, and how much genuine enjoyment it brings me. I have to keep stopping myself from singing along with lyrics that are overwhelmingly untrue of me.
I love it how the editing shows clearly all band members. Everyone has time on screen, instead of going the easy route of funneling the attention to Shirley. Good job to the director.
As crazy as it sounds, this song darkly motivates me . . . . Anyone can enjoy a sunny day when life is great , but your true power, momentum and endurance come from how u remain determined during the rainy seasons of life . Misery and pain are my power so I dare anything to challenge me , I'll never quit, I'll never surrender, I'll never give up and I'll never stop pushing until I reach the top of the mountain . . . .
To me this song makes me feel more sympathetic. I know that Shirley wrote the lyrics also as a remembrance of her being bullied at school for moronic reasons. The ending of the video, where she's surrounded by monsters while covering her ears and hiding her face, makes me wish I could have helped her.
I love rainy days and thunder storms. I would like that everyday was a rainy day. I hate sun and summer. Love autumn and winter. I'm 40 now, and i heard this 1996 when i was almost 14🤔. I still love this song. I totally understand and agree this song😂❤.
I once read an interview with Shirley Manon where she stated she thought she was 'hideously ugly' and i remember thinking she was either mad or blind. She is breathtakingly beautiful
+Frank Platt: Unfortunately, the other extreme isn't great either. That would be supermodel Linda Evangelista proving why publicists and spokespeople exist, since she came off as an arrogant jerk for saying that she and Christy Turlington "don't get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day." She also said, "God made me beautiful. If I wasn't beautiful, I'd be a teacher," thus insulting an entire profession. If she had stopped at the first sentence, nobody would have had a problem. (John Belushi mode on) BUT NOOOO! NOOOO! (John Belushi mode off.)

Frank Platt That can be common with redheads growing up. They want to desperately fit in but their red hair makes them really stand out. A lot of guys really either love redheads or think they are gross. Not much in between.
I'm not sure what I love more... her Mimi blue eye shadow, knee high combat boots or the fact this song screams 90's, but it all comes together quite beautifully.

@@jesusrajaimesbe They're a mostly unheard of band for the Gen Z demographic. Not even the Fortnite kids, either. The ones who usually don't suck, but the majority do because the social default is to clam your lips and not state your views.
@@user-cd7qf3ed8r That's just because they don't know it, you can see an example with Stranger Things, every time that they heard a good song it becomes a hit.
No woman ever looked better in a dress. My eternal style icon.
I miss the 90s so much 😢
This is just so 90's. Wow I remember everything.
I pretty much remember too, all the good music can never be forgotten.... still listening to those....
Yup, all great memories 😊
Lol, yeah. Dark, cloudy day. Kids with weird costumes and masks. Yup, it's 90's video.
Right? And obligatory "hanging and jamming in factory setting". Haha, gotta love it.
diva1675
This band is so full of great tracks and hits, over and over and over again. Where is the chart success??!! What´s wrong with people??
+Genomizer S. It doesn't speak to everyone I guess!
+Genomizer S. It's so much better than that Courtney Love Hole shit. Shirley Manson was the true rock goddess of the 90's
+Sam Mortley Everything.
+Genomizer S. ....being in a really succesful racing game is close enough, I guess.....?
+Genomizer S. His model-girl-like look leads to underestimate his music.
This album is the keystone of the 90's.
Something extremely ironic about how cheerful and upbeat this song is, and how much genuine enjoyment it brings me. I have to keep stopping myself from singing along with lyrics that are overwhelmingly untrue of me.
She says she's happy so it should be upbeat
Garbage is not garbage
This should be the theme song for the year 2020.
Rain is great
Why ?
Hear hear
@@kristopherryanwatson Why not. In all seriousness, the lyrics "pour some misery down on me"
Have any truer words been spoken?
So many years have passed and I have yet to hear anything that sounds as dirty - but still right - as this chorus...
The most 90s song of them all
As someone who was a really unhappy teenager, this song really spoke to me.
I love it how the editing shows clearly all band members. Everyone has time on screen, instead of going the easy route of funneling the attention to Shirley.
Good job to the director.
The greatest: Samuel Bayer touch.
Shirley's Awesome - yet they are a "band." So their all Awesome! If you notice - all their videos are like this! I've always appreciated this.
Amen
The song, the video, the visuals it all holds up. Fuck I miss the 90s
Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, Alanis, STP, POTUSA, RHCP, Tool, NIN, etc etc
a time to be alive for sure
The 90´s videos were very surreal, i miss that time of my life.
Fear Street 1994 brought me here. Shadyside rocks!
U didn't know this song before???
@@rayjohnson2387 yes I did, but I didn't remember the existence of this song after watching the movie lol

Tik tok girls from the UK brought me here. Anyone can tell me which is the best song from garbage
As crazy as it sounds, this song darkly motivates me . . . . Anyone can enjoy a sunny day when life is great , but your true power, momentum and endurance come from how u remain determined during the rainy seasons of life . Misery and pain are my power so I dare anything to challenge me , I'll never quit, I'll never surrender, I'll never give up and I'll never stop pushing until I reach the top of the mountain . . . .
Wow that's really deep
This whole CD motivates me, but for a different reason. It's a great MP3 companion when jogging.
That's the point of the song, grest to hear :3
congrats man... your username is also great, the ultimate dark knight, lol
Me and my bestie love it when it rains!! Go away hot humid weather c'mon autumn n winter 😫😫
I saw Garbage once. They were 🔥
I can smell, feel and taste 1996 in this song. I know it came out a year earlier, but '96 was when I first heard it.
When you truly are depressed and this is one of the only songs you want to listen to.
Try leonard Cohen if you want depression.
It's a proven fact that depressing music makes you feel better.
To me this song makes me feel more sympathetic. I know that Shirley wrote the lyrics also as a remembrance of her being bullied at school for moronic reasons. The ending of the video, where she's surrounded by monsters while covering her ears and hiding her face, makes me wish I could have helped her.
Is it? I know Garbsge makes me feel AWESOME !!!
@@Snarl616 her success was the best revenge. 🤘🏼
Some of them Makes it worse Have u heard of Giles Corey. It’s almost like I like feeling sad
Happy music makes me homicidal.
Only the real people know how sad it is to really feel like this.... happiness can be so complicated.
When i saw this on MTV way back 96 I think...I fell in love with Shirley...lol😂😂😂
I could die in her voice tonight.
One of the best songs of the 90s. Shirley Manson is so beautiful
THIS IS 💯 THE ABSOLUTELY BEST STRIPPER SONG EVER!
Absolutely love the way she thrusts in dance and stance. Natural at it.
"Pour your misery down, pour your misery down on me!" I so LOVED this song way back when - still DO!! One of the coolest chicks ever!
This song came out nearly 20 years ago and still sounds better than most of the crap coming out today.
She has got an awesome voice
I completely agree.
3 years later, 22 years ago now :( I had this on cassette when I was a kid.
best album ever :)
FYI, she is still putting out some great music = great respect of her genius art work called through music.
Without a doubt, my favorite Garbage's song.
@@rubizelmurgatroyd7893 God Christ what have we done these times not to believe in the truth. What you doesn't know was it was said about what she thought of herself in school.
Maybe she struggled with depression. People will believe all kinds of negative shit about themselves when they're experiencing it, it doesn't have to be true.
Frank Platt
That can be common with redheads growing up. They want to desperately fit in but their red hair makes them really stand out. A lot of guys really either love redheads or think they are gross. Not much in between.
Redheads are the greatest. Shirley is the most gorgeous of them all.
I guess you know which side of that fence I am on...
Carol Danvers driving with this song playing in the background is a MOOD

Bruce Campbell was driving with this song back in The X-Files

iamazing scene!!!!
I cant talk about, or think about, just how much this music makes living a little better
Blast from the past.
I'm not sure what I love more... her Mimi blue eye shadow, knee high combat boots or the fact this song screams 90's, but it all comes together quite beautifully.
Music today is not music, we must go back
Well, I like Garbage and many other new bands.
Still listening November 18, 2023.
The talent in this band is just amazing. You take Butch, Steve and Duke with a powerful and beautiful Shirley out front, and it is perfection.
Two decades later, still enjoying this powerful rock music.
Andy Szwejda amen
Yes...it is a rock song...I love heavy rock...but love this.
1990s: the perfect balance between art and commercial polish. Good decade.
1980s please? All the good music is stupidly good and amazing, and all the bad music is so freaking bad it goes back around and its actually good again.
60's and 70's beat every decade by miles. The innovation alone beats anything that has come out since.
Best decades: 60s, 70s, 90s. One of the few good things about the early/mid 1980s was XTC. Things did improve in the late 80s though.
Bring it back,
Speed Zero
As a young teen guy, I ABSOLUTELY loved this song... Times change and now I'm 44 and maybe I should have grown out of that stage, but where's the fun in that???!! So, I still ABSOLUTELY love it and Garbage has some absolutely amazing songs even if you don't even bother listening to the lyrics. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙃😁🎶
