- Join me for a walk through the centre of Giggleswick, an unusually-named but wonderfully picturesque village located in the foothills of the great Yorkshire Dales. Home to a more than 500 year-old school, an ancient parish church and much more, Giggleswick is a delight to explore!
On our walk around Giggleswick, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Giggleswick School Chapel, Giggleswick School, Tems Beck, Giggleswick Primary School, St. Alkelda's Church, The Black Horse pub, Giggleswick Market Cross, Bankwell House, Queens Rock House, Queen's Rock and the River Ribble.
Thank you so much to the following sites which really helped me in my research of Giggleswick:

You know…I’ve often wondered the origin names of these villages etc… I’ve seen so many weird funny names for places! 🤯🤯🤯🤓🤓🤓
Ha ha there are quite a few odd place names around the country - sometimes they do have a funny origin, but often it's like Giggleswick - just a weird coincidence over hundreds of years of historical evolution!
Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!
Lovely informative video. Thank you. Have to say I expected those three bronze figures in the grounds of the school, to suddenly turn their heads to look at you…..real Dr Who style.!
I have not been to Settle for about three years. Thank you for a wonderfull walk.
You're welcome! And thank you so much for watching - it's a lovely part of the country, and Giggleswick is a nice oasis of calm next door to the busy hub of Settle. Stay tuned for a walk in Settle town centre too in the coming weeks - I hope you enjoy it as much as this video :)

What a lovely place, but I couldn't live there, I would slowly go insane.
Ha ha going insane from giggling fits perhaps? It is a lovely little place indeed - but a very quiet and serene village nestled away in the Yorkshire Dales :)
Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video - and that it didn't send you insane!
@@LetsWalkUK A friend of mine went to school there years ago, and they swapped with the local Borstal for a week, he said that Borstal was easier.

A new subbie here 🙋. I love this kind of walking tour where watchers can learn and know so much thing from the place of the tour. Thank you for your great efforts for putting extra input in your tour. Your channel reminded me of my ultimate favourite walking tour channel @prowalktours. As you know I’m going to this school for my GCSE so exciting ❤
We are new to your channel and loving it! Beautiful peaceful walks and lots of interesting information and history. Have you thought of visiting Hawes North Yorkshire in the future? Lots of things to see and do in this lovely little town. Thank you for all the work you put into your posts, it really shows. 💐
That's so lovely of you to say! I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos - there are so many wonderful and fascinating places around the country indeed :)
I have indeed thought of visiting Hawes many times - and whenever I go to the Dales to do some filming I always aim to make a trip up there. Only issue is I don't actually have a car - and public transport to Hawes is a bit of a challenge when on a tight schedule - but I'm definitely going to come some day, it sounds like such a lovely place!
Thank you so much for watching and for your very kind words - it really means a lot to hear :)
The village was were the late Russell Harty was a teacher before moving in to Television presenting. You walked straight past his former which appeared in some of his shows especially at Christmas. It was later used in a tv drama after his death. He is buried in the church yard at the rear of the church.I visited thirty years ago and signed the visitors book....only a day after his tv producer had left a charming comment.
That's very true! And I learned that Richard Whiteley's English teacher at Giggleswick was none other than Russell Harty - certainly worth a mention in the storied past of Giggleswick :)
Thank you very much for pointing that out and for watching - I really hope you enjoyed this video!
There was a famous person on tv who lived there
Isn’t funny, I just found an ancestor of mine that was born in Giggleswick named John Carr born in 1509. It’s funny because I had recently watched an episode of Escape to the Country and thought what a funny little name 😂
I understand that the analysis of the DNA of persons who live in Iceland today demonstrate that the female input must have come from Celtic women of the UK mainland, perhaps slaves purchased or captured in raids. Perhaps the local female saint's martyrdom had something to do with the Christian conversion of Iceland's Vikings.
Fascinating to learn! It seems that there certainly is a close connection there indeed - I once heard that the incidence of red hair in Iceland is comparable to the likes of Scotland and Wales, so certainly there are genetic links :)
Thank you so much for watching and for that insightful comment!
@@LetsWalkUK Norwegian tribes invaded the west coast of Scotland from the 8th century and ruled there for for a few hundred years that’s where the the myth of the “tall red headed Scot” comes from, while for the most part they are short with dark hair.
That’s interesting
