  • It's time for another Pokemon challenge! Sapphire with only Poison types is a hardcore nuzlocke I've wanted to do for a while, as Poison types are quite tricky in Gen 3 since they don't have the added bonus of being super effective against Fairy types. Let's do this!
    We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Sapphire Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Poison types?

    Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
    (1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
    (2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
    (3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
    (4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
    (5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
    (6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
    (7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
    (8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of trading/importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

    Question: Why not try a nuzlocke where every pokemon is weak to a certain type? For example, have a run where every pokemon has to be at least x2 times weak to rock, so all pokemon have to be either Fire, Flying, Bug or Ice, and you cannot use double-typings with Steel, Fight or Ground

    • @laurainc
      @laurainc Před 2 lety +3

      @@rajkanishu i disagree, as plenty of pokemon have rock type moves, and since all your pokemon are weak to that you have no proper pivots or ways to play around it, plus, going into wattson with a party of mostly flying types will be super difficult,, though i do feel like rock is a fairly easy version of this challenge and you could instead do something where everything is weak to water or grass or flying, which are much more common types. and, even if it is easier, its a different kind of challenge where your pivots are rare and your team diversity is totally crippled, despite having a larger amount of viable picks, which also makes team building important again unlike in monotypes where you are, for the most part, just stuck with what you get

    • @corby789
      @corby789 Před 2 lety +3

      @@rajkanishu I wouldn't say it's neccessarily easier, as if you do a monotype, then you usually have a dual type line available which covers at least one weakness, allowing you to play around that to beat potential counters. Whereas if you take strict weakness to a specific type, then you will never have a neutral switch. It will be hard to compare to monotypes, as the available pool for pokemon and strategies vary wildly based on type and game.

    Honestly, I find that 'struggle' early on with Cascoon pointless. Just get a Wrumple and evolve it on wild encounters. If it's not a Cascoon, ditch it an catch another. But instead you waste a lot of time (especially on multiple attempts) with a Cascoon that can't attack. There is frankly no reason for this at all.
    One could say that Wrumple isn't a poison type, but neither is Casoon. The rules are arbitrary anyway, so something that lets the challenge actually start instead of taking weeks for no reason is welcomed.
    This doesn't make the challenge any harder, just more time consuming. After all, the challenge only really starts with Dustox.

    If the AI sees that the pokémon is at a low HP, it choses a random move to attack, that's why it used psychic. Bad luck i suppose.

    • @khianidude
      @khianidude Před 2 lety

      It's not because it has low HP, it's because it sees a kill with multiple moves, so it picks randomly between those multiple moves. If you have a pokemon that has low HP but 4x resists a move to the point where it doesn't kill, you can still predict it will choose a move that will.

It was definitely a crazy run; I thought it was impossible after trying with Roxanne but I think we at least proved that this run *could* be done if Metagross can be managed more effectively. In generation three, if an opponent sees a kill if you are at a low enough HP, it will likely do a random attacking move. Since your tentacruel was at 30 HP, I believe it was low enough for a random move. Loved the video!!!

    34:46 the reason the Metagross used psychic is because it saw that psychic (and its other moves) all killed Tentacruel, so it randomly chose between them. Fantastic video, by the way! Super fun to watch!

  • @t.j.helming5534
    @t.j.helming5534 Před 2 lety +1

    I felt so sure he would turn an undesirable natured Seviper into a special attacker since his Seviper happened to be timid nature. Also, surprised he didn't mention that naturally Seviper has a 100 base stat in both attack and special attack so that should've eventually worked in his favor. (Don't forget, Roselia learns giga drain by level up & dark is special in this generation). With all his prior Nuzlocke experience I presumed making a timid Seviper as good as possible was a no-brainer on an all poison team & silently might be a blessing in disguise. Personally my ideal 4 moves would've been> 1. Sunny day [obtained TM]; 2. Giga drain [obtained TM]; 3. Flamethrower [bought TM]; and 4. Crunch [level up]
    Metagross would've been toast with that move lineup! In my honestly opinion, putting earthquake on a minus attack nature probably costed him more in the long run unfortunately!

    14:43 It can be done with a Gloom/Gulpin/Golbat, but you need insane luck and you'll probably have one death at least. The strat is to lead with Gloom, land the sleep powder on magnemite, then switch to Golbat. Supersonic then spam bite and hope for flinches. You'll want a cheri berry on everything of course. Voltorb is pretty easy, just switch back to gloom and land the sleep powder, finish it with acid and absorb. If you play things just right, you can get Wattson to waste a super potion before Magneton which is the run killer. Switch back to Gloom, put it to sleep then switch to golbat, get off confusion then switch to gulpin. Get off one amnesia then start spamming yawn. Once magneton is awake and drowsy, you start setting up rollout. You'll need all 5 to hit for the KO, if you miss even one, you'll need all 5 to hit again because Wattson will use a super potion. Gulpin will also need a lot of ATK and HP EVs.
