20 years later since Frankie Crocker passed away & NY radio has yet to recover! We had a glimmer of hope for a couple of years, then we lost the legendary Chuck Leonard, and the great Vaughn Harper! I don’t know what I’d without the CZcams archives! Very grateful! Thx for sharing!

He will always in my heart be "The Chief Rocker"! Frankie Crocker, and Larry Lujack of WLS in Chicago, my two idols of radio. Both men are the reasons why I own a small AM Station, Serve My Community, and play good Urban Contemporary and Adult Contemporary Music. I learned from just listening to Frankie Crocker and watching him on VH-1. Frankie is with The Lord now, in a better place, and so is Larry Lujack.

WBLS was my go to radio station when I lived in NYC 1979-1980. I loved to listen to Frankie Crocker. There was a lady who was quite popular at WBLS during that period, unfortunately I have forgotten her name. Oh, and that Saturday morning oldies program in which I heard so much good doo-wop music I had never heard before.

In 1979 that likely would have been Lamar Renee. There's a possibility you could be referring to Billie Burdette, but for some reason she is not typically mentioned for her relatively short stint at WBLS
