  • Townies know the struggle.
But CBC reporter Meg Roberts wanted to get some firsthand experience of what it's like getting from point A to B in winter...without a car.

This reminds me of Chicago lots of giant snow banks, no sidewalks and freezing cold walks to high school that were like 2.5 miles long one way. And numb legs.

St. John in winter kinda looks like Moscow, Russia in winter - hard to walk and white all around

Pretty sure st john gets 3x the snow Moscow gets annually.

have you been to Moscow, man? because I live here and nothing common to this video you can find in Moscow. we don't walk through these snowballs near the road like savages lol imagine, even such a country as Russia uses sidewalks on streets and they are clean. furthermore, especially Moscow is much more about walking rather than driving. everything in here is for walkers.
Also, we wear hats. I mean it's winter, not +20 outside, put on a goddamn hat silly. guess you aren't 5yo.
And it's so cold in here, guys. right now is Jan 3rd and it's -1 outside. Russia is always about cold, right? as like as Canada is full of ice or Africa is full of crocodiles lol

In Scandinavia the local councils clear out the snow from pedestrian and bicycle lanes first before roads. This is to discourage car culture. They also maintain public transport schedules. North America will never be that progressive. Cars are worshipped there.

North America also has public transport schedules in case you didn't know. I guess the local councils in Scandinavia forgot that roads are used by delivery trucks which are the lifeblood of an economy coz practically everything they buy is delivered by these vehicles. They also forgot that school buses, police cars, ambulances, firetrucks, utility and construction vehicles to do repair work use them too. I guess they prioritize bike coolness more than allowing road access for critical services.

In the video the girl didn't even have a sidewalk to walk on even to the way to school...

Really?? just What does the Dept of transport do all year??!!?? I know you have e lot of snow. But you know that.so in 100 years, just what has been done to service the people of nfld especially the pedestrian, climbing mountains of snow on sidewalks (if there's one) to face oncoming traffic and splashing and possible death if you slip.time to do something, like building sidewalks and clearing them for heavens sake.dont get me started.I walked those roads 60 years ago.yes!, So sad, that there's no improvement in a lifetime.
