As an Ace and KISS fan, I actually did like the 'Lightning Bolt' (Elder/Creatures) costume. Very simplistic, but really creative at the same time. A black costume with a silver lightning bolt running down the body... really badass look! Definitely didn't deserve the hate this AI gave it.

I agree actually.. Out of the four outfits from The Elder era, Aces was the best. The Early KISS Tour should’ve been proclaimed the worst. It’s not a bad outfit at all, it just suffers from being the first one. After that early tour the quality of each outfit was getting better and better and more cool and unique as the years progressed
Sorry, can't give Tommy any ratings for the Spaceman costumes since they are all derivatives of what Ace created. Personally I'm all about the '75 Alive costume and the '74 Hotter Than Hell, but that's just me.
Kiss didn't create their own wardrobe. Larry LeGaspi was the designer. He created costumes for some other groups in the 70s/80's and many of the Sci/fi shows of the era. Kiss did create their own makeup, however.
@@johngalush8790 I do know about Larry. For some reason I can't recall the boot maker's name. And there was also Maria Contessa. That said, a lot of the ideas came from the band members themselves, but of course they were made by designers. Love all of the history.

For me, worst spaceman costumes are those of Tommy. The rest from Ace are kickass costumes!! Most Incredible for me are 75, 76, 77, and 79 costumes, but totally agree that number one is Dynasty costume-79!
I feel I might be a small minority here. I love the Love Gun era costume for Ace Frehley the most. His white boots were what made him stand out when the other 3 members all wore black. What I didn't like about the band. They (Paul and Gene) chose new makeup for new members Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent! Right 👍? Why 😮 couldn't they do that for Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer as well. What a awful way to tarnish a memory.
I think the Elders costume would have been much better if Ace ditched the wrestling boots and went back to the DtK/Alive era boots. However, the DtK/Alive era my fav of all costumes.
Gene actually had 3 diff outfits during this cycle but it's tough to find the one with baubles on it. That's all I can think to call them then there's the exaggerated muscle one and another. Similar but just messier with less definition. Always bugged me this gets overlooked and it's made to appear he had one.
Hotter Than Hell, for sure. Dynasty suit was too Vegas. Never liked the Alive suit. Too minimal. If you put Ace in the re-designed "Monster" suit, I think that might be my #2. I think the "Elder costumes were a nice try if the intention was too "update" Kiss for the "New Wave" era but it didn't work. I am partial to the early leather and studs suits but Gene has had some pretty great iterations, particularly the crazy Dynasty versions with the boots with the toe nails! Hilarious but awesome!

The Dynasty outfit looked even better on stage, when he would ditch the tri-cuts, the cape, and the biceps cuffs, and roll his spandex up to his elbows. There were a German music magazine that once referred to him as looking like an alien god of vengeance when he did that, back in those days. I always thought that was a pretty cool way of describing that look.

I heard him say in an interview the Dynasty cape outfit was his favorite. The two most iconic IMO are the Love Gun and Destroyer outfit.
Ace said in the interview he really liked the lightning bolt that ran down the costume. And it wasn’t bulky to wear onstage.

tldr - All the costumes from Destroyer were the best. I saw KISS for the first time Sept 6 1976. Varsity Stadium, Toronto. I was 13.
