I just ran across this as I was wondering if I could use macro in the display of a reef tank and forego the refugium while also giving the fish some needed extra nutrition. Are you still doing it and what’s the year update. Very curious as to how it’s working for you. Has it helped in reducing nitrates and such? Thanks.
Thank you for the great video. Could you tell me where you purchased the holder and the ball or where I might be able to get them? Thank you (I’m in the us).
Great video, awesome idea. The only thing i would air caution on is the type of plastic you put into the tank. I think there are like 7 different plastic compounds that are used and only 2 of them are food grade. Other than that great video.
Great video's. I just started my first saltwater aquarium in January. 75gal. I run 2 canister filters fx4 and a sun sun. Not going to bad. Keep getting high nitrates.
Hi, Thanks for the great idea, applying this will definitely organise my refugium as it looks very messy and crowded, my aim is to also reduce peaces of floating chaeto that can go into the pumps and block plumbing equipment. If it is in a ball that floats then it will also roll and get the lights to all parts which might enhance growth. The only thing that surprised me in your experience is that chaeto grows on blue light, I was told by the fish store I dealt with that chaeto must have red lights (refugium lights). I will definitely try it on corals light just to see if there will be any difference. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Hey do an update on it in a few months quickly please, id love to see how often you harvest etc. Just starting using cheato this month myself. Just found your channel from Remys vid. Great to see another Aussie reefer and reefing channel. Keep it up.
Oh awesome! Well I’ve had it in there almost 2 weeks now and it’s doubled in size, so trying to get rid of some now haha. Will do a video update on that for sure 😊
i just bought 2 balls online. How did it go long term? Is there enough water flow into the ball? Love the idea because i have to put it in my main tank no room in the aio. thanks
Hey mate, great idea. I reckon you should split both, multiply your harvest afew times so you can sell multiple at once and be growing multiple at the same time. Just a thought 🤩
I have to say this was very smart! 👏 👏 👏 👏 When you failed the first time, I held back from suggesting things to you because I didn't have much idea what to suggest 😅, I'm glad you didn't give up. And in this part 1:14 you really expressed my frustration because in Mexico it is practically the same and everything is three times as expensive plus the currency rate between MXN and USD, believe it or not. 😂 keep it up! 👍
I ve got a small hang on back breeder box with a small pump. Pumps water through the breeder box from the main tank. I got a small light on the top of the breeder box and i place my chetto in the breeder box with some live rock rubble for pods. Works like a charm all together cost me less than $40 usd. Good luck with the tank looks awesome btw. Cheers !
Hi, does the small amount of chaeto you have in 2 hamster balls help with reducing nitrite and phosphate in your 6 foot tank? I have 90 gallon 4 foot and I have been told I should have at least the chaeto in size of basketball to help with nitrite and phosphate. I don't know I have room this big in my display tank. I have 2 canister filters like you.
Yeah it definitely helps, something is better than nothing. 😊 I’m thinking of making mine a bit bigger, but been happy with it so far. Has doubled in size since this video and had to harvest some.
@@SimpleAquariumsLauren please let me know what you're going to use to hold more chaeto in you're display tank, then I use it too. I only can think of big breeding box so far.
@@nimavaladkhani403 that’s what I was thinking, a big breeder box. Trying to see if I can find something else as an alternative but otherwise will just do that. 😊😊
WOW ! Can i marry you please. Wish my wife was as u are into reef saltwater aquarium. My wife just killed all my corals and fishes when i was away for sometime. kudos to the guy who marries you. U are just perfect . BTW I showed your videos to my wife how u are into this hobby as i am. So no need to tell you of what happened after but yeah nah yeah I'm still alive and will be watching ur videos. so all good here.
Those don't look like you will be able to grow that much for your huge tank. You should look at a fish aclatimation box. They hang in the tank and have little holes to let the water in. But are much bigger than the balls so you have way more room to grow the alge.

No worries at all!! I think red lights are the preferred type of light for best growth, but it will definitely grow under other types of light! 😁🙌🙌🙌
