    Agree with your comments about gears - surely we don't need more than 10 gears on an eBike! I would definitely prefer a more robust and cheaper 10 speed system.

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  Před 3 lety +1

      Well, thank you! Not that many agrees to that comment as it seems, but to us it is obvious! 😆

      @@MTBs I've seen this discussed on another video, I think there are a few people that agree, but maybe we have to convince the rest! 12 speeds for a bike where the motor cuts out at 25kph is one gear for every 2kph change in speed, totally unnecessary, especially when the motor effectively makes you 3x stronger!
      p.s. This bike looks amazing, but €10,000 is a LOT of money for a bike. I can buy a decent car for that kind of money!

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  Před 3 lety

      @@karimayoubi74 Yes, it's a great bike and lots of money! The aluminium models will probably be the best sellers according to Merida themselves.

    That was a great video with lots of information in it. Maybe you are not the best rider (like me), but you can summarize the caracteristics very well. Personally I am not sure about the rattle of the EP8, but I guess if you don't go for the Brose motor which seems to be very unreliable, the EP8 is still the best take.

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you! Just talked to a dealer that have worked with all the big motor brands. His take on it is that all motors have their issues, but the Yamaha motors just keep going. A good warranty policy is always going to be important, the motors are expensive to fix or replace.

    On one ebike I have XT 11 speed with Di2 and it seems to last me about 950 miles. On my Merida E9000 I've just got 1300 miles on 12 speed XT and I have not found any issue with gear selection. I know where I live in Wales, I appreciate the lower gears on occasion. Rob Rides channel says it's his favourite group set.

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  Před 4 lety

      Hi and thank you for your comment!
      Yes, I know "everyone" says that XT is their favourite group set and it is great that it works fine for you (and Rob 😆). But when I tested against a couple of other ebikes I liked the shifting action on the SLX a bit better despite that being a "lower" spec. Perhaps I need more miles to fully appreciate the XT.
      On normal MTBs, 10 and 11 speeds usually lasts longer than 12 and 13 speed cassettes (and chains). Since there is more torque through the drivetrain on a eMTB I assume 10 or 11 speed cassettes would last even longer.
      Cheers!

    I hope i can see your comparison with the lower versions like the 700

    • @MTBs
      @MTBs  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you! If I will get my hands on a 700 i will give it a try. I only had access to the carbon models. Anyways, the best-seller will probably be the 700. On paper it seems to have good enough components and it's good value for money for being a Merida.

    Awesome review really helps me! Just stuck on if I spend that extra money on the 9000 because I want that suspension but I just don’t know If I can spend that much. Currently pre ordered the 8000 model but this is the last week I have the chance to upgrade the pre order. What should I do have any opinions for me! Going to be an investment for the next min 5-6 years thanks

      Thanks Corin!
      Note that I am in no way an expert, I am only a happy amateur who is fortunate enough to test fun and expensive bikes. BUT in my opinion the fork is what is most important to consider. I have not tested the Marzocchi, but it seems to have got good reviews from other testers. It is almost impossible to give someone advice without back-to-back testing the two forks.
      Of the carbon models I think the 8000 is the bike with most value for money, so I think you've done an excellent choice there. Personally I would have gone for any of the aluminium models, simply because of the price.
      If you plan to keep the bike for +5 years, there is plenty of time to check for bargains on bike discount or CRC for good forks if you are not happy with the Marzocchi. But generally it is normally a better deal to get the right components/bike from the start if there are several components that you are not happy with.
      I hope I didn't confuse you even more! 😂

    • @MTBs

      Seems as if it annoys some more than others. If the motor does not break down after extended use will probably affect the reputation more than the rattle in my opinion. But sure, there are other motors that are quieter when coasting.
