Las Vegas Sphere Experience "Postcard from Earth"

- Sphere is a music and entertainment arena in Las Vegas Strip. The 18,600-seat auditorium is being marketed for its immersive video and audio capabilities, which include a 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen, speakers with beamforming and wave field synthesis technologies, and 4D physical effects. The venue's exterior also features 580,000 sq ft (54,000 m2) of LED displays. The Sphere measures 366 feet (112 m) high and 516 feet (157 m) wide at its broadest point.
Construction was underway in 2019, with the opening initially scheduled for 2021. Construction was suspended for several months in 2020, due to supply disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sphere opened on September 29, 2023 with Irish rock band U2. "Postcard from Earth" is a multi-sensory, immersive film that was created specifically for the Sphere in Las Vegas. The show was started on October 8, 2023.

I just came back from seeing U2 in the sphere. The concert experience was absolutely augmented by the visuals. The audio was absolutely top notch, but the visuals were next level and it felt like you were transported into the universe of the songs. And the artists were also showcased with live videos incorporated into the visuals that made the concert experience feel interactive and intimate. Concerts are probably the best use cases for the sphere.
I don’t think movies are really the best use of the sphere. With how good VR is getting, a giant dome with a 2D mega screen just doesn’t provide that superior of an experience.

I've been saying for years..That somebody Needs to create a place to escape Vegas vices ..The elements of vegas that can become draining..And make many not want to live there..Well finally it's happened .A place that gives positive vibes ..Great energy and escape from the harsh reailtys..I'm sure people feel refreshed after leaving the Sphere great way to get folks to go spend money..And are win some ..Anyways LOVE this for my city..

I'm curious, since the huge display is 16k, was all the footage recorded on 16k cameras?? Or was it upscaled? I mean to watch an actual movie meant for theaters in there would the movie need to be filmed at 16k or what??
I believe so yes. They shot it on a one of a kind camera.

Yes it was shot on 18k cameras but the numbers still don't really add up... 4k on a regular movie theater screen would look better than 16k on a screen that's 1000 times bigger 😂 you can also see obvious distortion of the picture because it's on a curved surface which makes it kind of weird and unrealistic for example the temple columns shown are straight in the background but curved in the foreground (1:56)

I loved the Sphere and I loved Postcards From Earth. [A LOT of conservatives dislike PFE because it treats evolution and human-caused climate change as fact (which, of course, they ARE, along with the moon landings and gravity). Perhaps they should have included some talking snakes and images of God (as an elderly white man, of course) in the film, and then the MAGA crowd would not have been so offended by it.] Anyway, the visuals and the sound are absolutely STUNNING in this theater.

I saw the PFE show and it was remarkable. I hope they get some female singers in there soon to do concerts. U2, Fish, and Grateful Dead Resurrected (or whatever the hell they call themselves) I have no interest in. Give me some HOT and talented young female country or pop singers (like Megan Moroney or Dua Lipa) in there. Then I would go and pay some some pretty serious $$$ for the experience!!

I went in October of 2023. The movie was spectacular, but having about 200 people in front of you recording on cellphones and pads is a distraction that takes away from the experience.
For two hours ago I was inside the sphere watching postcards from earth, and I mean, do the owners know what this film is about, it’s impossible for me to recommend or go there again, instead of squeezing all the technology out of this spectacular marvel, they made a National Geographic documentary, gosh! I just wanted it to end and get the fuck out of there, I was a little bit depressed, not with a smile and wanting to go back, but scream of frustration, sometimes I thought I was on a ship and we were moving forward and think about that this changes everything, this is the future, to suddenly change the images to dirty waters and noise, and fish, I mean, I would like to get my money back, horrible experience!

Next time, why don’t take a little time and research what it is you are going to go see BEFORE you purchase tickets? I liked the PFE show, because it was a fairly inexpensive way (at least compared with the U2 concert prices) to experience this amazing new venue. I was not disappointed; quite the contrary, I was impressed nearly beyond words.
Id rather watch a Hollywood Blockbuster here than watch Postcard from Boring Ordinary Earth

The lobby has a few cool (not remarkably cutting-edge) displays and the theater itself is huge and a little tricked out. But, ultimately, "The Sphere Experience" consists of, well... watching a movie. That's all. It was certainly NOT worth the $180 I paid MSG to have this "experience."

@@doneask1746 Nope. Go to TicketMaster and try to find a $49 ticket. The lowest priced seat (400-level; nosebleed) is $89 (plus fees). Lower center sections of the theater are $259; off-center is $169.🔶 All subject to change, off course. When I bought two front-row 306 tickets a few weeks ago, they were $99 each. When I went back to pick up another for a friend a week later, the same seats were $169 (plus fees) each.
Tier 1 (center front) is ~$169 plus fees, Tier 2 (center back) is ~$89 plus fees. Tier 3 (side) is ~$49 plus fees
@@dannyngo5437 They are apparently (still) adjusting prices; prices have been changing frequently. Not only are base prices bouncing, but Sphere has started (for now, anyhow) to differentiate between showtimes and have added (for some shows) a fourth price level for semi-centered seats. For example, Thursday, November 2... (4:30): $59, $74, $99 (9:30): $49, $89, $169, $249.

No. The movie theater is impressive, the movie is "meh," the lobby and concessions are actually vastly inferior than those of most much older theaters/arenas, and the whole "experience" is grossly overpriced.
When I went, I had seats at the top. A good place to experience the show, but you are also distracted by about 200 people in front of you recording on cell phones and pads. I'm glad I went, but would not go again for a different movie, unless they have a no filming rule and enforce it.
Tech can ONLY replicate and show the living world NOT recreate it.
