    It is scary to see how many people believe the above video is a case of animal abuse. All he is doing is teaching the dog that there's nothing to be scared of. When the dog eventually goes in it realises that Cesar wasn't trying to hurt it but simply encouraging it to do something he knows it can do, this builds trust between the dog and the handler and is very healthy for the relationship between the two. It does not hurt the dog, it does not traumatise the dog all it does is teach it that there is nothing to fear.

      No it isnt.
      First of all, it wouldnt be scared of the a pool, it would be scared of being in water in general. What the Dog whisperer guy is doing is encouraging the dog to get in water.

      And if you see the dog whisperer do some light punching or kicking to a misbehaving dog(as in biting or aggression towards kids), he is doing that as his last resort to stop the dog from doing the wrong thing

      Rudy Tucker Not to that extent. But they shouldnt be treated wrongly. Mine is a boy and I treat him sometimes like a baby lol, but most of the times hes just another family member, once you gain that connection with an animal, its hard to change or let it go. Therefore I dont care what others say I treat my dog a certain way and hes mega passive and playful. And learns things very quickly.

    I don't believe all the negativity toward this video. Being surrounded by dog trainers and being one myself, this is GOOD training. For one, it is very smart to make sure the dog is comfortable and able to swim in the pool if he were to ever fall in. Secondly, there is no abuse that is going on here. The dog will not be hurt if he goes into the pool. Many dogs are weary of many situations such as meeting other dogs, socialising, and submitting to their owners. But they must learn all of this to become less stressed, better behaved, happy pets. The dog clearly calmed down after being in the pool, and Ceaser let the dog understand that his fear was miss placed. The reason we have so many aggressive untrainable dogs is because people don't see the dominant role they MUST play if they are to train and teach their furry companions :)

    • @tamarab.3120
      @tamarab.3120 Před 8 lety +24

    • @Kindoxinda
      @Kindoxinda Před 8 lety +10

      There's a lot of negativity towards Cesar generally. I was really surprised at that fact as I have had so much success with his philosophy rehabilitating my family members dogs... Plus the dogs in his pack seem so happy and totally not afraid of him - in fact it's quite the opposite. I honestly feel that the accusation of him abusing dogs is totally unfounded but kinda understandable I guess...?

    • @annaamend3268
      @annaamend3268 Před 8 lety +20

      Kindoxinda yeah... Well people just think they are dog experts when they haven't even taught theirs to roll. Another thing is viewers expect positive results 100% of the time. But each dog is unique and not all are as easy to train :/ people should be happy that there is a model to train off of. And if they are concerned enough or not happy they could ya know do their own research and actually put in the effort to their dogs.

    • @MarenAnne66
      @MarenAnne66 Před 8 lety +19

      Exactly, you wouldn't raise your own children without discipline and boundaries, while practicing affection all the time. That's how spoiled adults come about. If your child is afraid of the vacuum, you don't just nurture their fear, you help them overcome it. If your kid behaves badly to other people, they need to be corrected or disciplined depending on that exact child's needs. Though dogs and people are NOT the same, it just makes sense to me.

This is not animal abuse. Yes, the dog is whimpering, but having if you put pressure on it, then release by letting the dog out. The dog will eventually learn that there is nothing to be worried about if you continuously do it.

      @Crystal Dragon Cesar didn't hurt the dog in any way. He/she was only whining out of fear, and if you look back you can clearly see he wasn't choking her. Did you ever hear he/she growl? He was slowly pulling the leash, and would you have preferred him shoving the dog in the pool with no regard of he/she diving head first? And also, he wasn't her guiding her in the deep/no stairs end. And did you ever think that he would have a show, business, and people trusting him with their dogs if he was abusing them? It's called tough love. And maybe you should go comment on a video where actual animal abuse takes place. Training can be tough, especially with animals.but do you expect him to just stand in the pool whistling and clapping his hands waiting for the dog to come on its own? See, thats the only non-cruel way to do it.

Its concidered animal abuse when there is physical violence, mostly very brute or for no reason, so i dont see the "abuse" here. Imagine your mother telling you to eat the food in your plate, its basically quite similar.

    Can't stand someone commenting "Cesar abuses dogs." In this video, its clear that Rusty is whining because of its fear. Not with tight leash or whatever. Rusty just have to face his fear. Step-by-step, Cesar already said all he wanted was Rusty to step on the first pool step, that's all.
    Our aunt's dog also has fear. He's afraid of bath so when my mom tried bathing him, he almost bite my mom's arm. Its a good thing she was fast enough to dodge her arm and then my mom tried again and again and again with the help of my sister, our aunt's dog is used to bathing.

    It’s not animal abuse, but there are better ways to show the dog that the water wouldn’t hurt him. My dog was terrified of the shower, pulling him while he’s whining and crying and MAKING him go there using force would never be good for him. So what so did was I got in the shower and I used some treats to show him that if he gets in the shower and I put a little water on him, he gets a treat. So I showered with him and I used a lot of affection, created a calm atmosphere while I’m in the shower by my self and eating. Guess what? Now he runs to the shower when it’s shower time, he loves water! So even though I wouldn’t classify this as abuse, I think there’s a better way.

      Filip Petranovic okay but u have to understand that these are animals. Yes they do have emotions but what many dog owners like you do is try to humanize these poor dogs. Your raising an animal not a human. These dogs need to be trained obedience and that ur the alfa. Cesar milan wa showing him that he could trust him and that it would be okay. This was a food technique.

    I won't say he's abusing her AND HE is a professional.....but there is DEFINITELY a better way of letting dogs know and teach about water and swimming than leash pulling. You could tell that the dog was nervous.....it's not fear it's nervousness.....just let him/her know there's nothing to be nervous about.....rather than turn that nervousness turn into fear by leash pulling and THEN make her/him overcome that fear.

    My dog Beefy acted like this for her first 3 baths. But since some of you think it’s animal abuse I want you to tell me what’s worse. Making Beefy go into a bath even if she’s crying, fighting, and shaking or never bath her again and let her fur get knots and horribly gross, let her live with rocks and sticks stuck to herself, and let her skin breakout in terrible painful sores?
    Dogs are a lot like children. Some times a bit of tough love and making them do something they don’t want to/are scared to do usually will help them in the long run.

    Hi so I have been recently trying to teach my dog to get in the pool and enjoy swimming! So I watched LOTS of videos on this subject and I used all the methods from those videos including this one. I tug and tug and call my dog to get on the first step but she won't budge. I continue to tug and try to get her in but she won't. I spent and hour trying to do this. So I wanted to show her that the water was fine and that it was not going to hurt her so I put her on the first step and assured her that everything was ok. And she still would not budge at all. So then I picked her up and put her on the next step and calmed her down. Then I tugged her the slightest bit and she jumped in. I held her once she got in the water to calm her and let her realize that she was fine. So when I let go she ended up giving me a HUGE scratch on my stomach and I grabbed her leash and guided her to the steps so she can get out safely because I wanted her to know where she could exit. I tried this same exact thing 3 more times by putting her on one step at a time until it was deep enough to jump in and again she would get out and she would not get in the pool on her own. I really need some assistance!

    I put this in another comment but here we go. I don't like going to a doctor. I don't like taking pills because I have severe anxiety, almost choked on a pill once, and can't get it through my skull that I know how to swollow a pill and won't die if I do. I have no problems swollowing food, only pills. But when I needed to go to a doctor for two pinched nerves in my elbow causing severe pain and numbness, I went to the doctor. I have the ability to rationalize, so even though I don't like it, my mom is not abusing me by taking me to the doctor and giving me the medication I need to get better. Dogs are all instincts and behavior. They can be incredibly smart, thus the noises she was making. If her owners back away when she makes that noise every time, clearly it means they will stop. She was not choking. She was put into a stressful situation until she started to relax and then let back out immediately. This starts to tell the animal that calm behavior is okay, and that the trainer won't just back down. They also did this in steps, always rewarding good behavior. Then he took a ball and put it in the water. The dog did not jump in, but she did step into the pool herself to get the ball. The ball in her mind is a good thing. Eventually this means the pool won't be scary because it will be associated with good things instead of bad. It's the same with me. I have a phobia and anxiety that makes it to where slightly embarrassing myself in public can send me into a panic attack of epic proportions (screaming crying, unable to breathe or even move, the whole works). It's not logical, but the brain is a huge obstacle. It got so bad I refused to leave the house but my mom made me. She took me to simple shopping trips in the store and offered me candy or drinks or even just bought food I liked to eat to reward me for going. According to your argument my mom abused me by making me do something I didn't want to, but because she helped me mentally reinforce the idea that a shopping trip WASN'T BAD I can now go to a store by myself to grab milk when we need it because IT'S JUST A STORE, NOTHING SCARY. Neither of these cases are ABUSE. Actually, it's a legitimate therapy used all the time with people who have mental disorders to allow them to eventually do things like normal people. It's called EXPOSURE THERAPY, and I doubt I have to really explain what that means. It's not comfortable and there are no instant results, but they are worth the tears and fear to just feel normal. Smart as dogs clearly are, they don't have the ability to rationalize what's happening in the moment to make it less scary, but that doesn't make it abuse. The concept is the same, a trainer just has to guide you through it. I can see your concern because of the video, but it is in no way abuse. It is a scientifically and phsycologically proven way to help people and animals overcome their fears.
