This song was the most played song on the radio in the 20th Century. Between Bill and Bobby they can hit every note on an 88 key piano. The Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time.
The way they seamlessly go from dueling lyrics to perfect harmony is amazing. Like no other
I would say the Everlys who were of course actual real brothers unlike the Righteous Brothers who at this time were made up of Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley were just a little better as Don and Phil were incredible and prolific too!
Welcome to the world of blue eyed soul.
This is just the beginning! All can sing.
Blue Eyed Soul, my friend. These guys could SING....no autotune, no second take....no tricks, just talent. Try Unchained Melody.
YES! Unchained melody is a winner for sure
YES... Unchained Melody!!!
fully agree. Rob will be out of his mind
Soul and Heart's inspiration, no one can beg like Bill ... that deep bass ... 😉
Yes, the live version.
They are not actually brothers. According to Medley, they then adopted the name The Righteous Brothers for the duo because black Marines from the El Toro Marine base started calling them "righteous brothers". At the end of a performance, a black U.S. Marine in the audience would shout, "That was righteous, brothers!", and would greet them with "Hey righteous brothers, how you doin'?" on meeting them.
I was hoping someone wrote the story of it by now. Lol
@Matthew Snider Wow! Lake Forest has expanded since I lived in El Toro.
Yea they were in separate bands,a black american soldier yelled out rightious brothers, and they stuck with it.
Not even Barry could sing like Bobby. No one could come close to him. Listen to Summertime; incredible
Absolutely incredible¹
@@rachelsullivan2926 Bobby was quite simply great. Bee Gees had harmony.
I'm biracial, raised by my beautiful black momma. If I've learned one thing from watching these reaction channels, it would have to be that my momma listened to more caucasian artists/singers/bands than I thought. At one time in my life I thought she didn't listen to any caucasian artists. I'm questioning my whole childhood! Lol
Blue eyed soul, baby.
Lakota and Irish here raised by Lakota mother! My father was in several conflicts -WW11-South Korea-Panama-Japan! USAF/RCAF!
We were all more alike than we realized all along!
Our grandparents were coolest than us ;)
It’s called Blue eyed Soul
Next Righteous Bros. song - Unchained Melody, live version. It has like 61 million views. Guys voice is amazing! ✌❤
A must, really.
Listen to Rebecca she speaks the truth
Listen to Billy. He knows Rebecca is right. Lol They are both right. Unchained Melody live version is great.
Unchained Melody Live. One of the best Live performances "."
@@garywaterman814 😆
Back then you really had to be able to sing. There was no autotune
Lol, exactly
I don't think this was live though. Sounds exactly like the studio version.
@@jp3813 Television performances are almost never live. Not today and not back then.
@@rdevries3852 Not sure if the OP knows that.
this had to be live, the studios couldnt record bobby high notes that well in the studio
The Righteous Brothers were called blue-eyed soul back in the day. Bobby Hatfield (tenor on the left) and Bill Medley (baritone on the right) weren't really brothers. They got their name when Black Marines from El Toro Marine base at the club where they were performing said things like "That's righteous, brothers" about their performance. This song was the most played on radio and tv in the 20th century. For more of Bobby's amazing vocals check out Unchained Melody live best quality (1965).
“Fun Fact” between their two vocal ranges, they can hit every 88 keys on the piano! Wow! Apparently that’s more rare then we think! Great singers! 💖
I watched a video of women reactors responding to this. When the line “I’ll get down on my knees for you.” comes you can see their hearts melt. A lot of them start fanning themselves. It’s easy to see from their reactions why this song was so popular. It melted women’s hearts. It’s the romance that even women today respond to.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😉👍🏻💖
It melted other areas too I think, lol
Women rarely turn down HUMILITY.Its in our DNA. That's why rap was perverted to divert from this standard
Learn from it, boys. It worked on us, back in the day. Get down on your knees, bury your face in her belly. Weep and beg her not to leave you.
I married that guy.
This is supposedly the most played song on the radio in the 20th Century.
Agree and still one of most beautiful song in the 20th century.
@@rosethorn001 Top Gun didn't hurt its popularity
It was. I remember hearing it everywhere growing up in the 80s n 90s.
@@bmo1878 lololololol surely didn't
Not supposedly... Over 8 million air plays.
I grew up listening to this song. “Artists” of today aren’t a patch on these guys butts! People back then SANG. No auto tune
Agreed
They are no better nor worse than many of today’s singers. Unfortunately, for many people (of a certain age) the way-back filter makes everything in the rear view mirror look bigger than it actually is. It’s sad, because while they keep spinning their old 45s on the Victrola, they are missing out on some great music.
@@tomhoopes3133 Oh, please. Get over it dude. Just because someone is over 40, 50, 60, 70 - we can still hear, think, feel, and yes, enjoy various genres of GOOD music. And guess what - I don't have nor have I ever had a Victrola even at 77. Never even saw one except in photos. If you, personally, don't wish to hear the music of previous generations, feel free to tune out. But you don't have to go giving your "expert" opinion unless maybe you have more experience on the old Victrola than you would like to admit. The spread of time represented by reaction vids is very broad, yet does not rule out the enjoyment of today's music/singers also, by anyone who wishes to access it as well.
@@solitarybee3714 , Tom's correct. Many older people are unwilling to admit that singers today are any good. I read this every single time I watch a video of these guys, or other artists from the past. People always spout off about how much better artists were back "then" , and how today's artists are crap. Every single time. It's old, much like the mind set of many older people on these threads.
@@louisejohnson6767 Not totally correct. I like a lot of today's music as well. Some of them sing live just like the studio recordings. All it takes is talent. A lot of today's singers have that talent also. A lot don't, just like back then. I can appreciate all kinds of music, except for rap music. Just can't handle that, sorry. And yes, I'll be 66 this year and my grand kids show me a lot of music that I like too.
Boy oh boy, talk about memories! Thank-you for playing it & whoever requested, child you woke the devil in me!!
I had my hot pants on, my over the knee boots on & was making noise to this song.
Those are memories that you will never lose. I'm heading toward 70 & remember it like yesterday

Yes I agree with you this certainly brings back that loving feeling
Welcome to old school talent. No auto tune. The way music was meant to be.
If you mean status quo, boomer, then no thanks. Frigging boomer.
I was born in 1973 but this song and a lot of the 50s and 60s including Motown I know (die to no choice of my own) but the artists they are amazing. And I agree their voices had to be gifts because technology is nothing compared to today. Thanks to my parents I'm lucky enough to know a lot of these and today I appreciate all these talents. Go back into these eras they are amazing.
I graduated high school in 1973. My children learned all kinds of different genres!
Gotta pass the good stuff along! ☺
yeah, i'm from 1973 too, my father is guitar teacher...and yeah, our grandparents were cooler than us.
Unchained melody by these two. His voice is insane. This song was a staple. Very well known. Yep. You had to have the talent to succeed in those days.
The Righteous Brothers have a legendary harmony and voices. Their songs have been covered many many times since then and through today. Unchained Melody is another masterpiece.
It's not bring back that love or he's gone, he's saying, "You've lost that lovin' feelin'
Whoa, that lovin' feelin'
You've lost that lovin' feelin'
Now its gone, gone, gone, whoa"
He's hurt that the love she had for him is gone. It's not known if it's a true heartbreak or someone wrote the song for them which was normal from the 50's to the early 70's.
Thnx, you saved me a lot of typing! 😉
@@jhrapsky2255 you're welcome :-)
The song was written for them.
This song was written by the legendary husband and wife songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. They wrote MANY hits.
@@larrywt656 yes I couldn't remember their names.
That dude with the smooth beautiful voice is the late great Bobby Hatfield, he was an amazing talent. His voice blended beautifully with Bill Medley's baritone. This was in the days before autotune and studio tricks. They were really that great, this was exactly what they sounded like in concert. 50+ years later they are still one of my favorites.
The Beatles pioneered studio tricks. Learn history boomer.
The Wall of Sound was also a studio trick.
@@fredv6237Boomer music was the best. Yours suck.
These two guys were fabulous....Bobby’s voice was a treasure, talented, with incredible range.
The guys are pure talent. No auto tune just them singing. No singers today can come close to the Righteous Brothers or any other singer from that era.
She lost the loving feeling. He wants to rekindle it. He says it in the first sentence in the song. One of the best songs ever made!
There are those who sing music and there are those who define music
Ahhhhhhhh.. the Righteous Brothers... this is the kind of music I grew up listening to, and I still Love all the old late 50s to late 60s music. Those folks had no Choice but to be Truly Talented - there was no autotune, there was no "be pretty enough for the camera whether you have actual Talent"....... there was only THIS - Raw Talent and incredible voices
Why are you ass boomers obsessed with autotune? Appreciate the damn thing, boomer, not make this bull talk.
@@fredv6237 I'm not a Boomer - I'm an Xer. I'm also a trained Musician, an Operatic Coloratura Soprano. I spent my childhood, teens, 20s, and 30s working in a part of the industry where........ quite frankly..... if you couldn't be heard clearly in the back balcony without a Mic, you were relegated to obscurity, forget things like Autotune to make a mediocre singer sound like they've got an adequate range.
@@OkieRhio A boomer nowadays is anyone who always boasts about the good ol' days. Couldn't care less about whatever your occupation is, that is still an ignorant take. Studio tricks and selling out have been a thing since the 60s.
Best scene to this song is in Top Gun! IMHO
yes!
You think so? When was the last time you watched it? I watched Top Gun again last week. First time watching as as an “adult” (I’m 47 now) and I thought that scene was cheesy as hell. I thought It was smooth back in the day when I was 20 and first joined the Marine Corps. But now it’s cringeworthy.
@@youmadbro7733 LOL! Much of what was done in our 20s was cringe as heck.
@@LunarisArts That’s fair. I used to wear spandex shorts and crop top T-shirts. But then again my Z-Cavaricci pants were dope!

A newer song featuring Bill Medley, the tall guy, is from the movie Dirty Dancing, I've Had The Time Of My Life. Check it out. His voice is still so awesome. Love your channel ✌
I like that song from the movie. But the live version with Bill and Jennifer Warnes? Wow. They had a lot of fun singing that song, and it showed. For contrast, watch the live version of Up Where We Belong from An Officer and a Gentleman with Jennifer and Joe Cocker. Totally different vibe.
I know we’ve heard that he has been feeling pent up from the pandemic, so I’m sure he’ll be back on the road ASAP. Even at his age now.

@@mayloo2137 yay!
If you want to hear more of Bobby Hatfield’s voice listen to Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers.
Not forgetting Ebb Tide. To hear more of Bill Medley rocking it up try I Just Wanna Make Love To You and them together on Soul and Inspiration.
as you move forward you will see how diluted the talent pool is today , great reaction
You are correct, in those days you had to have true talent to succeed in the business unlike today where you get a participant ribbon.
Artists are too manufactured now bit the talent is still out there
Listen to Unchained Melody. Bobby Hatfield's voice will go straight to your heart and give it a tug. (If it doesn't, you don't have a pulse.) Nearly brings me to tears every team.
Lonely rivers sigh wait for me wait for me I’ll be coming home wait for me
Pure talent, emotion and a band. Never sell these artists of old short. They just busted it out. It wasn’t by the seat of their pants its was depth of straight up talent.
There is no such thing as a "better voice" when it comes to these two. They both have amazing voices in their own right
They both had great voices, very soulful. They were the original blue-eyed soul. Soul and Inspiration was great too. You read your comments too quickly. Give people a chance to get here & listen.
Before MTV (mid 1970s); songs were made for radio and had to be under 3 minutes. The focus was on the singing, not the choreography and visual effects. You will find many great vocalists from the era. Enjoy
MTV started its first video August 1, 1981, its predecessor was Sight on Sound starting in late 1977.
@@muzikman4399 the first ever video I watched on MTV was Careless Whisper by Wham! Still love listening to it.
When music comes from the heart and soul, what else do you need? Brother, when you hear these old tunes, remember...they came from the soul, the heart...it was real. Peace.
Can't get any more classic than this. When you said, "This came out in 1964 - yeah, this is old!" I laughed because I was born in '64. lol Hey, 1964 is when the Beatles came to America for the first time too. : )
The Righteous Brother were also the opening act for the Beatles on the us tour.
The Righteous Brothers came out in the 60's. Bobby Hatfield )August 10, 1940 - November 5, 2003) on the left, Bill Medley (born September 1940) is on the right in this video. This song you're reacting to was released in 1965. Their most famous song is Unchained Melody released in 1965.
You should redo this song, now that you have Amber in the show. She would love this!
Both Bee Gees and Righteous Brothers first charted in 1963. RB continued into the mid-70s. BeeGees recorded until 2001.
Until last year, when Barry put out a duets album.
LOVE the Righteous Brothers... legends!
Unchained Melody. Incredible voices.
Not actually brothers lol just the name of the duo. Sometimes you look at a person and you kinda of guess what they sound like singin' like in this video, and it makes you go hmmm. Another great voice that's like that belongs to *Mr. Steve Perry* of *Journey* with such songs like *Mother Father, Faithfully, Wheel In The Sky, Separate Ways, Send Her My Love and Open Arms.* You'll soon understand why many circles in the music world call him *The Voice* and yes he's blessed not to use auto tune. Love Peace and Happiness Y'all !!!
Both their voices are excellent. 1964, the year that music changed forever. The pairing of these 2 voice is soulful. 57 years ago, goes by in a flash.
I was little when this came out, but its timeless and loved...Beautiful song...Thanks J. Peace
Love this song, classic! Unchained Melody NEXT, A MUST, suggesting you include Amber on it too! 😉🤗
"The Wall of Sound". No autotune... pure talent.
Absolutely right. Back then it was just you and a mike. You had to have extraordinary talent to be successful. Music had a message, and each artist had a specific character and recognizable style.
I'm so glad a new generation now has the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate this period, cuz music today just straight up sucks.
Blue eyed soul and the wall of sound brought together.....
You'll next want to react to The Righteous Brothers' LIVE 1965 UNCHAINED MELODY which is considered by many to be the greatest live performance by a solo singer in music history as Bobby (the singer with the high voice) puts on an unbelievable performance when he sang live on the 1965 Andy Williams TV show. His performance has a crazy 61 million views on You Tube!
He gets my vote....this performance "LIVE" no less...is insane!!!
Great duo. Met at Cal State Long Beach in Long Beach, CA. They are not brothers but were best friends. My 2 favorite songs by them is Soul and Inspiration and Little Latin Lupe Lu (about a girl they knew at college that could dance any dance) There were a lot of different dances in the 60's. One of the two Bill Medley, started a 50's / 60's club in Lakewood, CA called The Hop. It was so fun until the owner died and sold it. Now it's dive you don't want to even enter. Going to a hop was going to a high school dance or teen club in the 50's and 60's.
Bill Medley's voice is amazing
Great re-make of this song from Hall and Oates!
Soul. What is the color of it? The voice of natural singing.
If you want to hear the guy with the high voice, Bobby Hatfield, sing solo check out Unchained Melody.
Yes, I agree. Fabulous.
Mentioning "old school tracks", consider "The Seekers" with "I'll Never Find Another You".
everybody loved the Righteous Brothers, they rocked 👍👍👍
Such a perfect song, two perfectly matched singers. Always gives me chills.
They’re NOT actual brothers .. they’re a DUO ..it’s just a name, like Doobie Brothers ...To find out how they got their name, watch this full performance in the Andy Williams Show ... czcams.com/video/FZZqf3AVJbE/video.html ... enjoy! this is a solo song so they flipped a coin to see who would sing it .. this is Bobby Hatfield, and the other member of the duo was Bill Medley who arranged the music for this performance .. and he did so well with that, building up the music to the passionate end, so credit to Bill Medley too .. I also read that Bill Medley played the piano in the background for this song, and that Bobby sang this song while suffering from a head cold! This performance was done live, (with no auto-tune or other devices used by today’s musicians) and was better than the recorded studio version. Bobby suffered from stage fright and was particularly nervous in this performance because his parents were in the audience... you can see him bite his lip then grin at the end because he knew he nailed it!
I enjoy this song every time someone reacts to it which is everyone LOL so i enjoy it a lot.
Perfect combination. Beautiful voices from each. Makes me remember my young teenage years. They complement each other flawlessly.
Blue eyed soul at its best
That’s real talent, the blonde guy is Bobby Hatfield check out his solo performance “Unchained Melody”
Just an unrelated peculiar coincidence: your last name means mourner in Finnish! Check dictionary if in doubt…👌😏
It is an all time classic and was the most requested song on radio in the 20th century. If you haven't heard it yet, try the live version of "Unchained Melody". An interesting fact is that one of the backing singers is a young lady called Cher.
Rock and Roll Heaven , He, and Soul and Inspiration all by the Righteous Brothers
The Righteous Brothers always put the biggest smile on my face. The music they created together is spine tingling. Fortunately we still have Bill Medley (the bass voice). Bobby Hatfield (the tenor) died in 2003, sadly. Heart attack.
They're not actually literal "brothers."
It's one of the most iconic songs of the 1960s. A monster hit then on the radio, and now on CZcams among reactors :=)
But they have another song that is even more iconic, and an even bigger hit: "Unchained Melody."
Check out another great duo from the 70's...Hall and Oates and their songs Sara Smile, She's Gone, Rich Girl or their version of this song right here. ✌❤
Watch the very, very old. I graduated from High School that year. I'm 78 and still digging all the wonderful music from my era.
Tall one is Bill Medley. He sang the baritone voice. He is still alive and still singing. Shorter one is Bobby Hatfield. He sang in a high voice, like a tenor. He died almost 20 years ago.
Can we appreciate how the Righteous Brothers had brothers and sisters visible in the choir?
This was 1963; having a black person on TV was considered risky...unless they were in the spotlight as an entertainer or the featured criminal of the week on a Cop Show, they were essentially invisible.
To feature so many folks of color in the choir, and not have them in some kind of uniform is amazing, considering the time!
I was a kid back then; the black/white thing made no sense then, makes no sense today.
Well, dividing a population in half does sell twice as many products...so that makes it good?
Unchained melody
"SWOOOOOOON" le sigh.... never gets old! ^_^
Bill Medley is still performing. He brought back The Righteous Brothers. Now a very talented man, Bucky Heard, is singing with Bill. They play Las Vegas and also tour. I have the pleasure of knowing Bucky and his incredible voice. He used to sing with a band that played where I worked. I've had a crush on Bill Medley's voice since the '60's.
They are one of the few groups to make the top of the charts at that time who weren't a part of the British Invasion
I hoped you played this for Amber!
So many great songs and I didn't know they were the artists performing them. Very talented. Smooth.
I just started listening to you. I am happy you are playing these old songs. When music was music. You could understand the words.
There's never been any duo quite like Bobby and Bill since that time. And I don't think we fully appreciated them then.
You should hear the blonde sing "Unchained Melody" live
I absolutely love this fantastic song. Love the Righteous Brothers.
Thanks for this reaction
Oooh, smooooooth.
This was definitely a lot cooler than what I was thinking going into
@@RobSquadReactions, lol! "Stagger Lee" by Lloyd Price will be waaay cooler than you thought when you get to it. Banger for sure, probably the beginning of "gangsta rap" from 1959. It will NOT disappoint. Maybe Amber doesn't even know it. Ask?
You need to try out Charlie Pride
Unchanged melody and soul and inspiration were their hits too
One of the best songs ever!!! My mum loved them.
Please try J. Franklin wilson and the cavaliers Last kiss....pearl Jam did an excellent cover of it also...so you could for a change do a side by side comparison🤔
Anyone for "Stagger Lee?" 1959, Lloyd Price. Left this in a reply under my other comment, but if enough people click like, maybe Jay will do it.
Double dog dare you, Jay. ;)
Also, it's probably in mono, so you and Amber can share headphones without losing anything.
Thanks A lot Grandpa's time. I was born in 64 lol! Heck out Soul and Inspiration!
The thing is I’m I’m starting to realize the music really was better back then!! It took true talent to be recognized unlike what you find a lot in today’s music especially in my favorite music which is rap
@@RobSquadReactions I'd say there's _some_ good, even great, music coming out these days by talented people... there's just soooooo much filler (ex: the 6ix9ines of the world 😆).
These guys pre-dated music videos and TV channels dedicated to music videos, so many people probably heard their favourite artists and fell for their sound before they saw what they looked like. There were talent showcases like American Bandstand and other variety shows they'd make live appearances on, but there wasn't a ton of visual media to accompany musical releases compared to today.
I hear you my friend. There is some good out there today but with all the computerized assistance, its hard for me to like it at all. Back when I was growing up they were either talented enough to really know how to sing properly and be successful or sound like crap and fail!. Now The Righteous Brothers, they were one of those special talents. Of course like everyone else they probably had a bad day every now and then but for the most part they were so Soulful and smooth. My favorite song by them is Soul and Inspiration, but Bobby's rendition of Unchained Melody is timeless. I Just Want to Make Love to you is a great example of Bill Medley's power vocals. Oh and by the way, in case no one says anything, if you ever saw the movie Dirty Dancing with the late Patrick Swayzie, the song I Had The Time of My Life during the final dance scene was Bill Medley. There are many other groups to chose from but you've picked a great group to begin with. Enjoy!
Unchanged Melody is a good one. The guy with the higher voice sings it alone.
Bro, you could take every person that every had anything to do with music and put them all in a building, the building collapse, and Bill and Bobby would walk out without a speck of dust on them.
They're called the Righteous brothers because at the end of the show some black marines walked up to them and said that was Righteous so it stuck
That’s a heck of a way to get a name, Super cool though

Great reaction video! Love the Righteous Brothers!
Love your stuff but please fix the music audio fidelity. 👍
I thought I was the only one with that issue until I came across your comment 👋🏼
just to reconfirm others: do the Unchained Melody
I first heard the Righteous Brothers on the radio when I was 9 years old in the 4th grade at the song's release in 1964. Our family also watched the Righteous Brothers on TV shows back in the day -- Andy Williams Show, Bob Hope Show, the Ed Sullivan Show, American Bandstand, Shindig, among a few others.
I see that you've reviewed Unchained Melody (sung solo by Righteous Brother Bobby Hatfield, singing in countertenor), but don't forget to also check out their songs Just Once in My Life, Soul and Inspiration (especially!), Little Latin Lupe Lu (Bill Medley, the other Righteous Brother singing in bass-baritone, said that he wrote this song when he was 19).
BTW, Bobby Hatfield died in 2003. Bill Medley reformed the duo Righteous Brothers with another person (Bobby Heard?) singing in place of Bobby Hatfield. Bill Medley, the other half of the Righteous Brothers, still tours today; he would be about 82 years now.
Yup!💙💙👍👍
Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield were the same age. As for them not being on the Bee Gees level I totally disagree!
If you liked that, you would love " Soul and Inspiration " next ❤️
I actually appreciate this song a bit more after your reaction!!! Thanks J.
