Thank you! Very exacting standards that I greatly appreciate you clearing up for all of us non mechanics. Cheers!
Just bought a 2013. Your video made the oil change easy. Thank you! My 2 cents ...add part numbers, fluid type etc. in the future for whatever you install. Makes your site a 1 stop shop for LX570 maintenance.
Thank you for sharing this video. You have no idea how long I’ve been looking for it.
Thanks! very clear instructions. 30 Ft pounds for the oil drain plug seems high but with your attention to detail I am sure you are right.
Nicely done! I like that you always used the torque wrench and told us the values. And, you included the maintenance reset. My only comments would be to not use the paper towel, as it can leave fibers behind causing unnecessary contamination. A lint free microfiber towel/rag is the best. Also, you didn't mention if you shut the engine off to check the oil level. I hope you did, because that is how it's done, and usually after waiting 10-15 minutes to let the oil drain back to the pan. I only say this because to some uninitiated folks out there, they may think you check the oil with the engine running, which is a big no-no.
Nice video. Just bought an lx and have always changed my oil in the past but they have made this no easy task!
congrats. you're going to love the lx. oil change becomes much easier after first time. it is a pain to deal with the skid plates, the filter element (vs a spin-on), and the relatively short intervals, but it's worth it.
Only thing I noticed that seemed (emphasis on the word seemed cause I'm not sure) to need a little improvement is making sure the cut outs on your oil filter cap wrench are properly engaged to the tabs on the oil filter cap. Judging by the way the wrench was wobbling, I don't think it was all the way on. Happens a lot. When you put the oil filter on I could see that everything was good.
Anyway, I would certainly trust you to change my oil and that earns you my thumbs up. 😉
So glad to see somebody using a torque wrench on this job! +100 CZcams Mechanic Internet Points for you!!
lol. if it's on the internet, it's forever, so better make it right, i guess 🙂
Many many thanks for this video! Have changed my own oil for years, but the how to do the Land Cruiser was just not obvious to me.
Briliant idea on the plastic gallon jug for draining the filter oil! Thanks for sharing! and good on you for using torque wrench! Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
I was going to change a light bulb, but I misplaced my torque wrench. Haha. I enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting.
I am grateful of your video witch helped me change the oil filter easy thank you too much.
Nice video with those torque values thank you
Excellent tutorial! Exactly what I needed! Thank you for posting.
Fantastic video my man. Got a 100 series LX , gonna get me the 200 series and this video will come in very handy. Thanks for taking the time to make such a complete video.
thank you! really like the lx, and the oil change is very straight fwd once you drop all of the skid plates
Always wondered why the engineers didn’t give us an easy access mini skid plate for accessing the oil filter housing like they did for the drain pan on the PS…. Grt video thanks!
Great point!
Wow, that's a bit of a complicated oil filter housing! Very interesting.
Just did my first diy oil change on my 2009 following this video…. Great diy instruction thanks a bunch! What I found, my filter housing is all busted up from someone probably not using the right tool…. Couldn’t remove the filter plug, way way stuck in there due to someone probably over tightening prolly to avoid using a gasket…. Also my drain plug didn’t have a washer, and finally all my bolts on the skid plate were outta place, big vs little washers etc. I guess I’ll be happy to do this job myself once I replace some of this stuff, maybe upgrade to ez drain etc.
Thanks for this. Looking forward to more lx570 maintenance videos. Subscribed.
Thanks for watching. I have a few more on the list to make. Trying to find the time.
Thanks for the wonderful work. I've learned from you how this is. Please learn to change the tutomatic vector oil. I mean, you could be a good human.
Hope you're recovering well, my friend. I occasionally come back to watch your LX570 DIY maintenance even though I can't work on my own. If you're ever going to do a transmission fluid change on your truck, I'd love to see your tutorial of it. I couldn't find any videos specifically for the LX that does it.
Thank you. Will hopefully do some maintenance videos soon.
Awesome video. Thanks from australia.
Great presentation, very helpful
Thanks for taking time doing this to help out !!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. Very comprehensive video.
Great video and thank you very helpful
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! Very helpful.
Thank you very much.
Great, just ordered the tool.
alright! good luck!
Thank you for detail video
When you were done and you came out from under the hood I expected you to start yelling at us and say if you don’t want to miss another one of my car repair videos remember to ring that bell!!😆
Like and subscribe! Lol
Like Scotty Kilmer?
where did you get that "capacity oil" number? my service manual says:
With filter : 7.9 qt. (7.5 L, 6.6 Imp.qt.)
Without filter: 7.5 qt. (7.1 L, 6.2 Imp.qt.)
btw, nice video.
I found 7.93 quarts
7.4 US quarts with filter change according to owners manual and service manual for 2008 LX570
I put 7.5 liters and it still needs liters according to the service manual, but it still needs .5 liters the manual isn’t accurate
Maybe some models take more if they come with a towing package? Just guessing...?
Thank you brother
We need new video for transmision AT oil chang (gear oil)
next one will probably be a brake bleed
Thank you for the video! You saved me! I’m a math guy and I need numbers for everything. I can’t find the torque spec of the skid plate anywhere but here! BTW how did you prefill this oil filter? It looks difficult to prefill with this housing.
thanks. glad it helped. it's quite easy to pre-fill. before re-installing, put the paper filter into the housing dry, then put the housing on the ground and fill. same or easier than a normal metal screw-on filter.
thank you bro
Thank you! just bought one my self and I try to find videos to help med do some simple tasks! can you recommend any channel to learn more? Do you plan to do more of this?
I did quite a bit of maintenance when I first bought the LX, but unfortunately did not film. Will film second time around since there’s demand. For now, you can look for tundra videos, and procedures will be very similar.
Mine saying check VGRS System. I'm not sure if is my steering wheel, because it doesn't look straight.
Any knowledge about it????
With 95miles currently.
hmm. not familiar with that one. did you get it sorted?
I like using the trd oil filter on my lx570
@scott smith - why do folks on Mud prefer the trd filter over oem? Is it the metal top and bottom that makes it different or is the filter element somehow superior?
Both
Can you post video on Rear Brake service procedure for LX570 3rd gen (2018) with EPB function if you know how-to
unfortunately, my lx has the old school hand brake, so i don't have the electronic parking brake feature to play with
7.4 us quarts
Good
Great video. I noticed you didn’t use ramps? Easy to fit under without them?
thanks! yep, pretty easy. i've since been raising the suspension and using a jack underneath for safety. this provides ample room to slide under there.
So, do you think this is a pain in the ass, or is it more fun than replacing a regular old canister filter? I’ll be keeping my 2016 for while. I guess its a classic now with the basic old easy to put on filters.
I like it less. It’s the same mess with more steps. I’m sure it’s cheaper for Toyota to make these paper cartridges. That’s the reason they’re doing it.

You think so or you know so?
czcams.com/video/qH79uDR2YFM/video.html
JackTannehillPromoter good video. Didn’t see anything there that contradicted my statement.
Hi, have you done differential oil change . Can you upload the video
hey. i have done it once, and it's definitely due for another one. i will make sure to video it. i'm pushing my car videos to my other channel now - omg autos - so it will be posted there. czcams.com/channels/ZfmtpRsJt2YZWBZrBKg-xw.html
so its 2021 and I am watching this video and wondering, how long you kept that wonderful car for and what do you think about your experience with it, I am asking because I was thinking about getting a 2011 LX, 140K miles and well taken care of. your input is greatly appreciated.
Still drive it and still enjoy it!
Great video! I have the same truck and this was a great visual!
Great video, thanks! I am curious, where did you find the torque specs?
the torque specs come from the lexus repair manual
2018 land cruiser uses conventional or synthetic oil?
My oil type is listed in owners manual, and the viscosity is printed on the oil cap itself. If it calls for 0-w20, as mine does, it has to be synthetic.
Hey Doug
When your oil is almost done draining from the pan, does the oil run along the bottom of the pan and drip on top of the skid plate? My 21 land cruiser did this during the first two changes and it makes a mess.
No, it’s not too bad if I’m on a level garage floor
.I was just curious.if all lx570 have skid plates installed from the factory or is a aftermarket kit?
skid plates are, in fact, factory
Can you make a vid on how to “lock” the second row of seats into the folded upright position to maximize cargo area? When I fold mine up (2008), they move around (front to back), if there’s no cargo pushing them to stay upright. The 3rd row locks upright. What locks the second row upright ? Thanks!
Just made a video and posted it here. czcams.com/video/7tWcUVVyg1w/video.html
I decided to create separate CZcams Channels by interest, and will be moving my LX570 videos to a car-focused channel. Appreciate your subscriptions there, as well.
Thank you for the vid! I have an ‘08 as well, so I’ll definitely be following your channel. Sometimes those details are hard to find anywhere else
@@imwuz appreciate the sub!
@@imwuz how much mile is your 08? I am going to buy one here in Canada with 215K kilometres (around 142k miles) when did you buy yours and how has the experience been?
wsa76 hi. I did my homework and looked for almost 8 months before I found exactly what I wanted. ‘08 might be the best year for used. ‘14/‘15 not so great. Got it from a first time owner that only drove it around town, so less than 70K miles for an absolutely pristine 11 yr old car (got it last November). It’s been everything I was looking for...an suv with enough towing capacity (8500lbs max), for my horse trailer . Newer LX has less towing capability. Long road trips are the best. Super comfy, and very little to no soreness after 12 hours of driving. Minimum road noise. Cruising on freeway at 80+mph got around 320-330 mile range. In town it’s horrible. That’s my only complaint about it, range on a full tank is really low for how big the vehicle is. Should have at least a 25 gallon tank, IMO. One other complaint...they don’t make a Diesel engine available in the states. But the thing is a beast, you won’t feel safer driving anything else. Anyway, best purchase in a vehicle I’ve ever made. Well worth the wait. Hope that helps
What size torque wrench did u use?
Also doses same specs and procedure apply to 2017 Toyo Land cruiser?
3/8s torque wrench. i would try to find the service manual for your vehicle to obtain the torque values specific to the 2017 LC. try the forums @ ih8mud - there's a ton of technical info there

Oil filter cap and oil filter cap drainplug should be the same.
n1 qualified man I really found it very informative Thanks sir. I really want to ask you about the rear hitch that in the rear bumper from where I can buy it. Thank you Sir.
hey, are you asking about the bike rack that's installed in my hitch? if so, this is a 1UP-USA rack. you can purchase through their website.
Would you pull the oil stick as well, or just the oil cap?
Just the cap
You DON’T need warm oil when changing oil. This is a regular car design that has one drain pan that almost all the oil sits in. The oil residue clinging to the inside of the engine is so small that it’s irrelevant during a drain(about half a cup out of 5qts)
The only cars that benefit from a warm engine drain is exotics like lambos with their multiple 8 drain plugs at different parts under the engine. those don’t have one drain pan; they’re dry sump.
Btw this is 0w20 oil. Thin as hell. Definitely don’t need warmed even if you’re draining in alaska winter. Rookies
i get 4.3 more horsepower whenever i follow the steps in this video
What kind of oil is the OEM oil brand used in this vehicle. As you probably can tell I recently purchased one it is going to be delivered soon and I’m usually the type that does my own oil change and I want to take care of her right. I think your bottle is mobile one but I could not see it clearly
Don’t recall the OEM brand at the moment, but it doesn’t matter. I’ve used Mobil1 and Castrol; they’re both fine. Any oil that meets the specs outlined in the owners manual are fine to use.
Probably the Toyota brand.

Your bolt removal on your skid plate is a bit confusing. Don’t count all your bolts. The video is edited so it’s hard to tell because you go back and forth. It’s confusing.
it's fairly easy to figure out once you're under there. probably a bit of bad editing, but hopefully you got the gist
How many liters oil plz com

Where did u get the oil filter tool?

Omg. Noooo! My 2016 has these damn filters. Wtf?
Yep still third gen!
How much the dealership charge for this work?
The Don anywhere from $120-$150 plus tax
@@hbyam2002 I'd rather have this guy change my oil lol. Everything torqued to exact specification. No way dealerships/oil change places take the time like this.
The bird quit on you pretty early
Yep. Hard to find good help nowadays.
