  • Alberta's Minister of Forestry and Parks Todd Loewen and Alberta Wildfire information unit manager Christie Tucker provided an update as an out-of-control wildfire burning near Fort McMurray forced forced thousands of people out of their homes.
Tucker said That the Fort McMurray wildfire did not grow overnight and that rain is expected. It moved slightly to the northwest and remained about 5.5 kilometres from Fort McMurray limits.
As the May Long Weekend approaches, officials encouraged campers to check the provincial park or recreation area for active fire bans, restrictions or advisories, and properly extinguish cooking fire.
Several neighbourhoods in Fort McMurray remain under an evacuation order. So far, about 6,600 people have been forced to leave their homes and have been advised they will likely not be allowed to return until at least Tuesday. That re-entry date could be extended.

Is it possible to cut clear the trees around the city to prevent the spread of wildfire?

Every year 90% of these fires are caused by man, shouldn't people have learned by now. Forest management still way behind. I live by provincial land where many trees are dead do to disease, wind storm blew many over and nothing being done. 1km to town I have to practice fire smart, cut branches 6 feet off the ground, no dead wood, and no wood stored close to buildings while provincial land is a mess. Talked to wardens that it is a fire risk their response is fire is good. NDP representative has nothing to say do to her stand on logging.

I saw someone throw a lit cigarette butt out of his car window a few days ago . Some people are probably blaming car makers for not installing ashtrays on newer cars .Folks keep a pop can in your car for your butts better yet don't smoke .

@@kookamunga2458 Smokers won't use ashtrays it smells up the car. Every year in the fall there are grass fires by the road no matter how many times they say do not throw butts out the window.

Can we address the fact that people are not being helped like 2016 ? Families had to sleep in their cars on the side of the highway , lack of food and accommodations . It's as if officials are hesitating and delaying AGAIN !

    Heres the bigger picture :
It's a career for thousands of people. They NEED forest fires in order to have MONEY. Therefore, if there's no big fires, theyre losing cash. Why not toss a match in a field ?

Is the Fort McMurray "wildfires" a natural occurrence of climate change or from Chinese 🇨🇳 arson?
    - Why did they only happen in democratic places like Hawaii, Canada 🇨🇦, Greece, Spain, Turkey, Portugal, California, and other parts of Europe,
but never China, Russia, Iran, or North Korea?

Russia has huge wild fires every year . Just Google it . I saw homeless folks cooking on fires while farting around the trails on my bicycle last year . Then there's lightning. Train brakes or bearings can overheat and cause fire .Some fire are deliberate that's for sure .
