Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

I may not be a lawyer, but I don't think you can implicate him in the actual murder. The two thugs likely would collaborate that the break-in was his doing as it was planned. Problem is the murder was by all intense and purposes an accident NOT part of the plan. The break-in lead to the murder, but not part of the plan so this likely would just be a second degree murder which is murder without premeditation. The husband, I forget his name, had no direct influence over the actions leading to her death just the fraud.
I would think that he would be charged for masterminding the break-in, but the death is all on the two thugs. Two separate charges.

It’s called felony murder. If someone dies while you are committing a crime, you are responsible for that crime. For instance, if you are a getaway driver for a bank robbery, waiting outside for the guys in the bank, and someone inside accidentally kills the security guard, you as the getaway driver are still as guilty of murder as the guy who shot the security guard. The same applies here. He committed a felony by hiring the guys to break into his ex-wife’s house. When the housekeeper died, under the rules of felony murder he is as responsible for the death of the housekeeper as the robbers.

Felony Murder: If, in the course of a dangerous crime being committed, a death occurs and only occurred due to that crime being committed, it can be charged as first-degree murder. While his main crimes fall under conspiracy, they still fall under the felony umbrella. As much as I love Mr. Monk well let me just say this... I also love old crime TV shows. Matlock that good ole family TV show. The more I watched it the more I realized that Mr. Monk TV series got their ideas from Matlock. For example Matlock lived alone a widower wore the same suit and only bought the same suit which yes one of épisodes he shops for his suit.... it was like déjà-vu. So many épisodes are so cloned. Today I'm watching Matlock season 6 episode 10 and how does it start ? Game show ... I hope it's not another one that Mr. Monk copied.
Anyways I know I know everyone copies someone but when it's your favorite show that you watched 4 times (and probably would watch it again) well when you feel it's cloned it kind of leaves a sower taste in your mouth. It doesn't feel the same and the excitement it's gone.

You are wrong, written by Joe Toplyn and touched up by head writer Andy Breckman. It's pretty bad that you'd assume as such and it makes you come off as sexist. Silly writing is unfortunately a unisex issue.
It is still nonsense, he could have just gone to the house himself asked to be invited in, threw a fake tantrum and defaced the painting in front of her. That would have been a better solution to the convoluted plot idea but he didn't want to be the bad guy in the plot.
What frustrated me the most about this episode is how obvious the antagonist is. Didn't take more than 3 seconds to figure out him as the primary cause of the mess, I was hoping it was a red herring, but it wasn't. No the writing and the actors delivery (which is actually realistic if a person is a bad lair) just fall short.
I will give it credit though, this is the episode in which the villian succeeds in a plot that actually causes a happy aftermath to some degree.
