It all played out how Aslaug initially imagined, she was always after the position of the Queen and Ragnar was able to provide her with that, and in return, she gave him sons, but they never truly loved each other, and that's sad. Because Ragnar needed long years (decades) to comprehend that having more sons with the person who didn't get him and with whom he didn't share that true bond was not worth it. I started watching this show today, was on the final episode of Season 1 and as soon Aslaug entered the story, I did a quick Google search and learned Ragnar betrays his wife. I was done and closed the season. I don't like the thought of a man betraying his wife like this. Men are so stupid. See a pair of boobs and an attractive face and that's it. That's how weak and stupid some men are. Others who are faithful are stupid in other ways.

Can´t blame Lagertha for leaving. Having children was really important thing to her, even more after Ragnar became Earl. But she couldn´t have more sons, while Aslaug could. Even if she stayed it would be like humiliation to her.
The reason why Ragnar wants both to stay is because he loves Lagertha but he also knows that he’s been promised great sons and he knew Aslaug was the key to that, he was doing what he thought the gods wanted him to do but he tried to cheat them by attempting to keep the love of his life, but she had her own destiny to fulfil

If he thought through a bit better and acted out more patiently, respected Lagertha's position and pride, he could've done right by Aslaug (he did impregnate her, after all) and he could've kept the love of his life by his side.
Instead, he acted impulsively (stupidly), didn't choose his words wisely and lost the love of his life. It all played out how Aslaug initially imagined, she was always after the position of the Queen and Ragnar was able to provide her with that, and in return, she gave him sons, but they never truly loved each other, and that's sad. Because Ragnar needed long years (decades) to comprehend that having more sons with the person who didn't get him and with whom he didn't share that true bond was not worth it.
He always pinned after Lagertha, until the very end, they are what we like to call today 'soulmates', they were meant to be together and they were in the end, in death.
Ragnar was foolish in this regard, he could've played it out differently, alas wisdom comes with experience (and age) and he didn't have it at that time :(

I mean. Their relationship was kinda rubbish to begin with, first Lagertha Cheated with rollo, then Ragnar cheated and got himself Aslaug, but then Aslaug cheated with the wanderer.
Though the entire cheating cycle did infact begin with Lagertha and rollo before Bjorn was born. So i think we can all agree that the real Homewrecker here is Rollo, he was the one Who started This cycle in an already morally Questionable home to begin with. He apparently never considered that she would leave and Bjorn would go with her. In a way, he ended up trading one family for another. Then he wondered if his sons would ‘enjoy more’ fame than he… his reaction to Bjorn’s future fame was telling. Almost like he realized that he could have stayed in that happy marriage with Lagertha. Still would have had Bjorn and Bjorn would have still been the king of all Norway. And Lagertha might have had a second healthy son given that she got pregnant again years later.

I started watching this show today, was on the final episode of Season 1 and as soon Aslaug entered the story, I did a quick Google search and learned Ragnar betrays his wife. I was done and closed the season. I don't like the thought of a man betraying his wife like this. Men are so stupid. See a pair of boobs and an attractive face and that's it. That's how weak and stupid some men are. Others who are faithful are stupid in other ways.
Thank God Lagertha left him, for once the woman wasn't a doormat. if she had stayed, she would've been a slave for everyone in that house.

Well, in the context of this scene clearly it wasn't common for someone to take two wives as he said he's heard of this and it's not that unusual trying to convince her. Happy to make advances on Ragnar, sleep with him, bare his child and move in with him at what would inevitably be the expense of his wife, love of his life and mother of his children, Lagertha, but then kicks off at him for speaking with an attractive slave girl? I actually get that, as Athelstan pointed out, it might have even been as much because it was a slave girl but still, the absolute hypocrisy of moving in on Lagertha's turf in every single way then complaining and whinging to Ragnar when he wasn't even close to doing what she stated.
Aslaug has no dignity, and I lost a lot of respect for Ragnar. He knew he was on hot water, yet he still humiliated Lagertha. So proud of her for being the strongest and better person.
