    Hey Chris. Pretty incredible that you're doing this, getting these things recorded, and making them available for the community. Keep up the awesome work.

    Thank you for putting so much effort and investment into this. I can see where it would take a lot of getting used to the new "space." The clean recording is very different, but we still get the same great trumpet playing.

    For someone who is going to be practicing in a space with no reverb (like a studio bricks or a closet), what advice do you have about trumpet playing in those spaces?

    • @ChristopherSmithTrumpet
      @ChristopherSmithTrumpet  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Don’t overblow the space! Just play normally and trust that if you’re making a good sound in a dead space, that it will be even better in a live and reverberant space.

      @@ChristopherSmithTrumpet thanks. Due to some changing circumstances, I am going to be practicing in a closet at home that actually works as a practice room. I plan to visit your page often for regular trumpet inspiration from your practice booth.

    I thought it was a green screen behind you and you put a picture of a garage. Haha !

      I totally thought that too for a while, something about the lighting and perspective does make it look like it's green screen!

    Cool new space. Can you share details how you process the audio to give it a parking garage resonance?

    • @ChristopherSmithTrumpet
      @ChristopherSmithTrumpet  Před 3 lety

      Hi shawkmusic - thank you for taking a listen and commenting. I’m using a Royer r122 MKii ribbon mic thru an Audient iD4 interface into Logic Pro.
      I experimented with the EQ, but eventually found a setting that I think matches the sound in my head that I’m making.
      The reverb in the room was made by plain old trial and error. I adjusted the perceived size of the room and adjusted the tail of the reverb to get it where I thought it somewhat matched the sound I was getting in the garage, but also sounds somewhat “natural” without being completely overdone.
      I’ve had a lot of help from friends who know more about this stuff than I do. But quite a bit has just been trial and error!

    Hello, I also live in San Diego in the Chula Vista area, can you give rough estimate on how much this cost including shipping? looking to buy one for drum kit use.

      Hi km5658 - The StudioBricks prices can be found on their website. Their models start around $4k and go upwards from there.

    Hello Chris, out of curiosity this studio of yours is inside an apartment, right? how does it sound out of it when you're recording? is the sound reduction outside the studio significant? ever since i saw this video of yours i've been thinking about acquiring a similar solution to be able to study/practice with more privacy and maintain friendship with neighbors heheh

    • @ChristopherSmithTrumpet
      @ChristopherSmithTrumpet  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Henrique - the outside sound is quite soft. My wife is able to work and have video calls just outside the room while I’m playing inside.
      Your neighbors would most likely not hear anything.
