- Let's take a walk from Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles to église Saint-Vincent de Paul to Vieux Port (via Rue La Canebière).
Marseille-Saint-Charles (French: Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles) is the main railway station and intercity bus station of Marseille, France. It is the southern terminus of the Paris-Marseille railway and western terminus of the Marseille-Ventimiglia railway.
It opened on 8 January 1848, having been built for the Chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM) on the land of the former Saint Charles Cemetery. The station is perched on top of a small hill and is linked to the city centre by a monumental set of stairs. Since 2001, the TGV has dramatically reduced the travel time between Marseille and Northern France; traffic has increased from 7.1 million annual passengers in 2000 to 16.5 million in 2017. This makes the station the eleventh busiest in France.
The Église Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (Les Réformés) is a Roman Catholic church in Marseille, France. It is located off the top of the Canebière. It was built on a demolished convent and chapel of Reformed Augustinians, which explains why it is commonly known as "Les Réformés" despite being a Roman Catholic church. The church building itself was designed by the architect François Reybaud and the abbey Joseph-Guillaume Pougnet, and built from 1855 to 1886.
La Canebière is the historic high street in the old quarter of Marseille, France.About a kilometre long, it runs from the Old Port of Marseille to the Réformés quarter. It has been called the Champs-Élysées of Marseille. The name 'Canebière' ('Canabiera' in Provençal dialect) comes from the word Cannabis in Latin, as the area around the Old Port were originally hemp fields and Marseille was one of the world's largest trader of hemp baskets and ropes from the Middle Ages until the 1930s, when other fibres were used instead.

Marseille is very Beautiful 😍 thank you for visiting 🥰🌸
We are due to go here next week from Ireland - But we are hearing a lot of bad stories about Marseille with all the Africans Algerians and Moroccans etc and also refugees etc People here say its no longer a safe also my French friend from Paris says its rough !! But we are still going here and then travelling onto Nice by Train!! Its sad to see such a beautiful country like France been ruined but we will go here and visit because i think in 10 -20 years time it will definitely be a No go area like most parts of Europe the way things are going and everyone and anyone been let in here !!! Cheers ..
All the best for your trip and Nice is lot safer, cheers!😊🌼🌸
Marseille will hardly ever be a no go area. If you check the history it has always been a city that had a criminal and drug connection way back in the 60's, 70's and that was before Marseille had a large immigrant population like it has today. Today the little crime it has its nothing in comparison to cities such as Birmingham or Manchester or London. I think the fact its France's only truly diverse city and isn't only full of just rich boring upper middle class french but diverse mix of races and religions people automatically assume its because of the diversity thats causing all the crime. The latest redevelopments and constructions in Marseille show Marseille will be the future city of France as opposed to the rest that are simply living off past glory but their futures are bleak. With Paris becoming overpriced Marseille is the future of France.
Update we are back... !! Marseille I thought it was going to be bad but it was worse...a true dump full of graffiti and mainly Arabs the train station was worse full of homeless and undesirables . I'm Irish I have been to Birmingham and Manchester cities and they do not compare.. I think a city like Marseille should be used as a. Example as to what mass migration drugs and lawlessness bring to Europe .. I struggled to see other white people get apart from other tourists like me .. would I go back? No we did not feel safe here as I said full of Arabs who just think it's their own country..Marseille reminded me of war torn Beirut or a city in Afghanistan yes it has beautiful old architecture and history but this is now over shadowed by what's arrived ...👍
très belles images ...
