Pueblo Warriors vs. Spanish Conquistadors : The Acoma Massacre

  • In 1599, in the middle of a bone-chilling New Mexico winter, a village of natives, ensconced high upon a mesa in their generations-old adobe homes, prepare to fight for their lives, and the lives of their families.
Down below, a group of Spanish conquistadors readies themselves for battle, dragging their canons with them up the steep slopes of the mesa.
The fighting between the two has been fierce for two days, and now the Spanish intend to put an end to it.
What happens next, will change the course of Western history forever.

All due respect, the recent hamas Israeli conflict mirrors the Texas frontier when Cynthia Ann was taken. Kidnap, murder, torcher and rape were rights of passage for the Comanche warrior long before Whites arrived on the scene. The Comanche rose to power through technology and vicious tactics, i.e. the horse. The Texas Rangers only overcame the Comanches by better technology and adopting Comanche battle tactics.

Pretty good and close but you got at least one thing that stood out wrong and that was that he founded the very first capital in New Mexico which was San Gabriel (known today as the Española/San Juan Pueblo/Alcalde area in northern New Mexico. It preceded Santa Fe. And his actions led to the Pueblo Revolt which chased them out for about ten years and the Spanish then returned under de Vargas to create Santa Fé, the current capital of NM.

Very good. Something interesting to add is that unlike other Europeans powers the Spanish had the intention of integrating the natives to the Spanish nation as full citizens. That is why the colonization was so fast for them. Most of their armies consisted of natives. And most of them intermarried with natives. But most of their colonization enterprises were a personal investment with the need to make a fast economical return. So rules created by the kingdom to protect their future citizens were hard to implement.
In this case the explore Juan de Oñate was married to the nobIe Isabel de Tolosa Cortez Moctezuma. She was the granddaughter and heiress of Moctezuma and Hernan Cortez. She was very wealthy.
The story of cutting the feet is under controversy. The writing from Oñate literally mention in Spanish “cutting the end of the feet”, other mentions cutting the toes. Some historian indicate that cutting a toe or several toes will make more sense if the intention was to make them slaves. Without a foot they will be totally crippled.
Anyway brutal, that is the reason that Oñate was punished by forcing him to relocate to Spain. (He was born in Mexico and his family was living in Mexico).

This is true. As long as they were baptized under the Church they were integrated which is why the majority of mexicans are native-euro hybrids, Mestizos. The british colonies didn’t do this which is why the mestizo race was not common amongst english speaking territories.

Ultimately, syncretism resulting from the Reconquista of Santa Fe following the Pueblo Revolt is the most fascinating aspect of colonization. The Hispano culture that emerged blended and borrowed from both sides to make what we now recognize as the culture of New Mexican Hispanos. I will also say I would have likely also 'seethed with hatred' had my family been killed, and I was given an army for retribution.

So, at this point I feel like you should change the name of your channel to "White Man Bad" and put off any pretentious notions of being unbiased with history. Why don't you do a segment about the Fort Nimms Massacre, where over 500 white settlers, (mostly women and children) were butchered by the "peaceful " natives or why don't you do a segment on "St. Claire's Massacre" on the Wabash River, where well over 1,000 whites were ambushed, slaughtered, and mutilated?????
At least tell both sides of the story and quit being so blatantly biased? Atrocities happened on both sides and it wasn't always "White Man Bad"!!!!!😢

#1: HOKC often talks about how atrocious the Comanches and other Plains nations were. Check out some of his videos on inter-tribal battles or his Rangers vs. Comanches videos.
#2: I'm not familiar with the Fort Nimms Massacre, but St. Claire's Massacre wasn't a massacre. It was a battle. "Massacre" implies unarmed people being slaughtered, but those killed on November 4th, 1791 were armed soldiers invading enemy territory. They were a perfectly legitimate target.

This channel to my mind is pretty balance in its interpretation. I think you're probably not a regular watcher and basing it solely on this one as well as misinterpreting what is being said. (Also I also recall we've had an episode on Fort Nimms already and it was fair).

This is that anti white man bad. Most people only think of English and French as the bad guys. That Congress woman AOC was railing against crimes against natives by white people and her last name is Cortez. This channel pointed out previously English and French purchased land from natives, they didn’t conquer it like the Spanish did. This is a Spain was bad too video not a white man bad video.
