  • It's 420 Happy Hour and I am drinking, smoking and strolling down memory lane. And doing my best to sing a little tribute to Gerry Eicholtz who was perhaps the best man, by all standards of the Seventies, that I ever knew. One holiday weekend we went to the State Park at Greers Ferry to sail the Prindle 16 (on which Gerry taught me to sail) and party with some of Gerry's friends. This was the late Seventies and lots of substances were consumed all day long. With the night's bonfire, Gerry pulled out the guitar and the party amped up to 11. Alison was a hit then and Gerry killed it. Then a Ranger stepped out of the dark, surveyed the wreckage of the campsite and said "That was mighty pretty but it's time to go quiet. And y'all will be cleaning all this up?" I promptly and respectfully said "Yes sir and we are glad you enjoyed it.".Gerry went to sea and I knew that life by regular postal messages. Then he went to the air in the Colorado Mountains. The brightest flames burn too fast. It has been a long strange trip since then, but I reckon I will see you down the road sooner rather than later.
