Why Scourge is Really 3 Transformers in 1 in Rise of the Beasts. 1 of the most interesting things about the character of Scourge is the fact that he combines 3 aspects of his namesake. He's a herald of Unicron and has an army of Sweeps like G1 Scourge. Transforms into a dark truck like Robots in Disguise Scourge. And he hails from a colony world like Cybertron Scourge. But he doesn't just reference he ealier incarnations. He also plays as a reference to 2 other Transformers as well. Since he acts as a dark counterpart to Optimus Prime with his truck mode and works under the servatude of Unicron. He mirrors the same story of Nemesis Prime from the Transformers Kingdom series. His designer Eddie Del Rio also admitted on his Instagram to pulling inspiration from Animated Lockdown for his robot mode and stealing insignias like trophies is well in character for the old bounty hunter as well. Scourge taking the logos of the victims he kills and putting them on is shoulder is one of the most brutal thing ive ever seen a transformer do

The badge stealing thing also could be seen as a more sinister interpretation of prime saying "till all are one"
I remember before the movie released, there was a theory going around that Scourge was actually Bayverse Prime having been corrupted by Unicron.
While the idea is cool, it’s probably for the best it didn’t happen. The Bayverse may have had its flaws, it still had its fans and I can’t imagine they’d be too pleased to see the hero of the past five movies go fully bad whether it be through mind control or not.
in my eyes as a big Bayverse fan, I wanted him to be Optimus so we could finally have an answer to what happened after tlk, that's why I originally wanted the theory to be true. But now I'm glad that's not the case bc I hear Bay might be coming back. another thing, I still feel it was a missed opportunity for him not to be Optimus bc this would've made more and more people exited. but honestly I'm glad my favorite Optimus wasn't corrupted in a bad tf movie

I'm really surprised that those two never threw down at least once. MF killed Apelinque and corrupted Airazor then proceeded to let Prime handle him alone
@@lanewaldon6450 if Primal had joined Prime to fight Scourge directly, the sensation of plot armor and nerf the villain would decrease significantly plus give him the image of a foe so powerful that were needed two faction leaders to deal him.
I can't get over that scourge almost looks like a tired grandpa at times

When you really get down to it, that whole Nemesis Prime connection is probably the reason people kept throwing around the “Scourge-Is-Future-Optimus” theory everywhere before the film came out.

Scourge is the first antagonist that’s completely unrelated to Megatron or at least a movie to have an antagonist that’s unrelated
Lockdown wasn't related to Megatron, but Galvatron was, so I guess that makes my point a little irrelevant.
Also he wears his logo as a mask like Tarn and has a ramshackle truck mode like DOTM Megatron

I'd say Animated and Prime are the two best Transformers series we've ever had.
He probably took prowls forehead piece and welded it onto himself.
I like the overall weathered and 'damaged' design to scourge, teeth are misaligned, parts of his head is hollow, looks like a corpse that unicron brought back to serve him
Fun fact scourge and tarn both use their insignia as their faces tarn being decepticons and scourge being teracons

Honestly Sideways was my favorite Minion for Unicron as he was closest to awakening his master with the Minicons, plus he swaped between autobot and decepticon sides to weaken and control both.

There’s also a more visual reference to RID Scourge in the original design and toy, where the nose of the truck splits apart and becomes his shoulder pads
as an aside theres also VERY strong resonances between the terrorcons and three OTHER hearalds of unicron scourge/hook, Nightbird/line, and battletrap/ Sinker from the comics.
The mask made out the maximals insignia is cool never notice this.
Don't forget that Scourge also has an Terrorcon Insignia mask that is similar to Tarn's Decepticon Insignia mask.
He reminds me of general greivous stealing lightsabers from his victims.

It's barely even Bayverse anymore; he's still peripherally involved, but it's a different continuity now.

Also in (I believe) Armada Nemesis Prime’s first name was actually Scourge before they decided to go with Nemesis.

Kingdom Nemesis isn't the only herald version. We had one in the Universe 2003 line who was built by Unicron using the body of a dead Optimus from a universe he consumed, and for a couple of other Nemesis Primes, Unicron played a smaller part in his creation.
I also see a bit of Galvatron in him, I hate that because beast flopped we might never be able to see the earth g1 decepticon, and Galvatron design's.

Scourge in rotb is like ultron in age of ultron. Malevolent, intelligent, and more powerful than his counterpart. But once the hero gets the upperhand, he loses his power and triumphantly gets defeated.
Scourge is not intelligent he is very dumb

One day, one day we'll get a live action movie as good as the 1986 movie. Unfortunately Rise of the Beasts was so far from the mark that I wanted to cry at seeing it, and not for any good reason.
