    We spent a few days in Bratislava and FELL IN LOVE with this city. The old town is just big enough to give you a ton of things to do while retaining its small town charm. Make no mistake, Bratislava is a HUGE city, but we tried to cram as much of it into one day as we could. Ever wondered what to do in Bratislava? Then this vlog's for you!
    We're starting with a cup of coffee per usual and we chose this coffee shop for two reasons. One is because it’s named Five Points, & that’s the area of Huntsville, Alabama where Trey is from so that had a major effect (lol) but TWO, because they have something called a Selfie Cappuccino Machine where you can get a cappuccino with your face on it!! It's such a fun thing to get & we figured it’d pair well with a nice breakfast!
    Now we know that saying you need to visit Old Town sounds pretty straightforward but there’s so much within the city center of Bratislava. The heart of Old Town is Hviezdoslav Square which houses Old Town Hall as well as a host of street performers, Roland Fountain, & basically every tourist like us that’s visiting the city. Within the city center there are a ton of statues but the most famous is arguably the Man at Work. Make sure to stop by and take a quick picture with his, as well as rub his cap for good luck!
    Thankfully Old Town Hall is also a great place to get aerial views of Old Town. Town Hall is in the center of the Main Square and dates back to 1370. It costs 5 euros per person, or you can get the Bratislava Pass if you choose which gives you access to just about everything you’d ever want to do within the center of town. Old Town Hall also has a tower so we’re going to climb up & see the views from above!
    We’re grabbed lunch at a place called Verne because it’s in the center of Old Town Bratislava & it’s supposedly pretty affordable based on the research we did on it. We got the chicken cutlet to share and enjoyed the amazing weather from the patio, because that's just what you do in Europe!
    Next we're headed about 12 kilometers outside of town to the Devin Castle ruins. We hopped on Bus 29 at the Most SNP stop under the New Bridge. This bus drops you off about a kilometer from the castle so it’s just a short walk from the bus stop. This castle sits on the bank of the Danube River & was once a huge castle before it was effectively destroyed by Napoleon’s troops in 1809. This castle has roots dating back to the 1st century & played a big role in controlling the trade that took place on the Danube.
    We took the bus back to Bratislava because we wanted to see another castle, but one that was a bit more intact. It’s kind of impossible to take a picture of the Bratislava skyline & not have the Bratislava Castle making its presence known. This castle sits at the top of a rocky hill & on a clear day you can see Austria & parts of Hungary. It was erected in the 9th century & between the world wars & a bit of neglact, the castle deteriorated into a state of ruin until it was remodeled in the 1950s. The museum is open during the day but the exterior is open at all times!
    For dinner we wanted to find a place that was uniquely local and budget-friendly, & we just kept coming across Slovak Pub. It’s known for having excellent local cuisine & good beer which is what we’re most concerned with when choosing places to eat. The blogs say to have the Slovak version of Coke, which is called Kofala. We tried that, as well as the perogis & potato dumplings and it was DELICIOUS!
    Much like the Bratislava Castle, the UFO Tower commands the skyline. It’s got an observation tower, a restaurant, a bar, & also a skywalk if you’re really feeling adventurous. This seemed like a perfect spot for a late night drink & a great panoramic view of the city lights from above.

    Just to clarify, Bratislava castle was not neglected to a state of ruin but in 1811 the castle burst into flames due to carelessness of soldiers which were stationed there. We can thank Napoleon soldiers for that, same as in case of Devín Castle. The restoration began in 1957, the latest took place in 2008 and ended in 2010.

    When you buying a watter in slovakia i think most of them are mineral so it may taste nasty but they are full of minerals. Some watters are still (blue) then mild sparkling (green) and sparkling (red).
    Glad you enjoyed Bratislava.

      Thank you!!! Our next videos will be in Nice, Porto, & Lisbon, before we do a quick trip back to the states for a wedding. But we'll be back in Europe one week later and spending almost THREE MONTHS in the Balkans (Bosnia, Croatia, Albania, Romania, Bulgaria, & Serbia are all on the itinerary at the moment but we've not officially locked them in). We're mostly doing this because of Schengen restrictions, & by doing this it will allow us to spend the last three months of the year finally seeing Italy, Germany, & more countries within the center of Europe. It's going to be a jam packed second half of the year for sure!!!!

      Bratislava is probably in our top 3 now of cities we've visited!! The food, the things to do, the beauty around the city, there's just so much to love about it. Congrats on making it through the year though!!! It feels like just a few years ago we were sitting in the old Lee cutting up with Jessica & Jeron. Time sure flies!!!!

      Slovakia is a truly beautiful country. Kosice is a beautiful city in the centre and needs some time there. Also the countryside is so beautiful, especially the train journey from Zilina to Kosice and looking at the high Tatry Mountains around Poprad.

    Hi you guys, just came back from my trip with Flixbus from Luxembourg, it was an experience! That's the least I can say, next time I will drive at night with my car, I noticed that there was practically no traffic whatsoever during the night so no more 14 hours sitting on a bus (with the toilet locked!), the driver was rude and could not speak English, French or German! I just enjoyed your last video, as always, keep up the good work. Looking forward to your next voyage, it almost feels like I am traveling with you both. Stay safe!

    • @ProbablyLost
      @ProbablyLost  Před 2 lety +1

      That's EXACTLY how we want people to feel Eddy!! We want everyone watching to feel like they're apart of this journey! I'm so sorry you had a bad experience!! To be honest, you're definitely braver than we are. We don't mind Flixbus for a few hours, but 14 hours sounds BRUTAL! The toilet is truly the make or break for the experience. I can't imagine not being able to use the restroom on the bus. That's crazy!!
