  • HOW TO: COVER BACK TABLE STERILY
Hey guys so this is the big debate I've been talking about on instagram. Just a little back story. I was coming in on my shift and the scrub set up the case and since there's been a delay, she covered the back table and the mayo. The way that she covered it is not the best way since it would be very difficult to remove the cover without contaminating the contents underneath. I will go over how another scrub and I was able to pull it off but that's on the next video.
I wanted to address that HER way is major red flag and should never be done ever again. This video will show you how we're supposed to do it per management and infection control. I also linked a screenshot of a pdf from AST.ORG addressing the issue and you guys can make your own opinion about. The reason why I wanted to film this is because my whole content is about addressing the grey areas in the field. School will always teach you black and white. They will teach you the book stuff but I teach the grey parts so that when you actually go to clinicals, you're not gonna go crazy and question your schools integrity of information. Please bear in mind that most facilities varies which means they make their own rules. Even if the book says one thing, real life is another thing. Always keep an open mind.
Feel free to challenge it but if you were in my position, would you go against your hospital infection control? Your director? Your charge nurse? Remember, when in Rome, you do how the Romans do. Unless it's a clear violation of sterility then absolutely. I have challenge my facilities before and sometimes I win them and most of the time, I lose.
Thank you for understanding and hopefully this clears it out.
*I'd ask for someone to come in to tie me but she came when it was done 🥺🫣. so for the record, someone should tie you up.
    Goodluck future ST!

Just wanted to pop in to say THANK YOU! I just got into a surgical tech program and start this fall, and your videos were a huge source of knowledge and encouragement as I prepared for my interviews.

Hi! If you haven't already, could you do a video on how you move the back table to the OR bed sterilly? That's something that I've been struggling with and I'm nervous because I'm about to start clinicals in a few days

Hi I am planning to get into this field through the Air Force Reserve. I have no medical field background. For someone that currently knows nothing about the medical field, how hard would it be to get into this field? What classes or certifications should I go after before going into it that don’t take years to complete? I’m going into Air Force in a few months and this job is at the top of my list. The only thing I’ve got so far medical wise is I completed my BLS certification and got a part time job as a unit clerk at an acute hospital. My background is in manufacturing so nothing related. Thank you for your helpful videos!

The OR have different pressure but I've been in ORs with literally dust in vents and one time sewage in the bathroom leaked into an OR and they were doing Total knee. Did not cancel the case. They kept going.

AST does not approve the use of back table covers. I get why you would want to, but anything below the tabletop is unsterile, why would you drag that back up and over all those sterile instruments?
