    Thank you for this important topic on balancing masculine and feminine features. I always wondered how some women turn into super elegant sophisticated ladies after fame, now I see that it's their stylists who balance their features and highlight their unique advantages. Marilyn Monroe for example, used to have rounder brows in her teen years. Then she got arched sharper brows that contrasted her round feminine face to give her a beautiful edgy look.

      So glad you found the video helpful! YES - what we often forget is that celebrities spend a ton of money and time on stylists that can guide them, since IMAGE is the most important thing for their career! I know lots of people just think it's plastic surgery (and a lot of the time it is lol), but it's also the small changes they make with their overall styles that make a HUGE difference as well. So happy you're getting the point I'm trying to get across!
      Eyebrows play such a huge role in dictating the overall image - I'm planning on a video JUST about eyebrows and how different shapes / positioning can impact your look :)

      @@stylemejenn you just got a new subscriber 😊 as a 90s kid, i too fell victim to the dreaded tadpole brows (whereas my natural brows are more of caterpillars lol). Over the past couple years I have painstakingly grown my brows out to be their fuller, natural selves (not like, crazy bushy) which i think look better on me. While i overall have a delicate face shape/ bone structure, i do have a very prominent nose 😒 and i feel like fuller brows draws more attention away from my nose, specially when my hair is pulled back.
      Hope I am making some sense, haha.

      @@minervarose7664 Thank you so much for subscribing! I never went for the full tadpole brows look but there was a period throughout my teenage years when I had skinny brows... Mine luckily grew back pretty quickly but I did come across many ladies that have struggled to grow them back out to their natural brow shapes!
      I actually have a video on prominent noses but seeing from my notifications I think you already watched it and commented on it 😝

      You’re totally correct about how these celebs suddenly look a lot better because of their stylists and makeup artists. BUT I wanted to point out that Marilyn (well, Norma Jean) was herself a visionary who designed her look alongside her makeup artist and together they created an iconic routine. It involved using liner on her outer corners to create the illusion of lashes so long they made a shadow, several different types of red lipsticks in layers, and a bunch of other stuff. I believe it was actually she who came up with the pointy brows to give herself some contrast. She was a genius and I think there’s some literature by her makeup artist about how they created the signature look. In case you’re interested ^^

      I don’t think Milania is masculine looking it’s more that specific regions of the globe have different facial structures but even if some people or nationalities might be more on one side vs another its still attractive and unique imo. This world has become so shallow it’s sad

    I never thought I would look good in a pixie cut because I felt like my face was too angular and my nose was too prominent. But when I built up the courage to just try it after looking at all sorts of pixie cuts, I was surprised by how much I loved it. Like Halle Berry I have a diamond face shape with some rounded features and a long philtrum. I thought my face wasn't balanced enough only to really look at my pics and see that the top, middle, and lower thirds of my face are pretty balanced. I guess what I'm saying is you'll never know until you try. You may be surprised by how well it suits you and the features you have. Plus, the feeling of having it all chopped off was so liberating.!

      Yes, I have the diamond with long philtrum, but with more angles like Jamie Lee. I have worn the pixie pretty well, I think, but I cannot decide if it is my "best" look. I want to do it again, but I'm just not sure! :)

    Agree with you about the comments you received, about Melania Trump somehow "tricking" people, or that women who can "pull off" short hair are somehow "more beautiful" (that's something one hears pretty often, sadly - what a myth)! I would never, ever feel like myself without long hair, even though my features are mostly very curved & soft, so I'm def. an exception to the rule. (I'm already dreading getting comments to "cut my hair" as I age, as I'd most definitely lose part of me & my personality then...)

      Maybe it's the way the hair is styled - short hair often adds volume to the hair as opposed to wearing the hair up, so maybe your face doesn't need the added volume to the head!

    I see hair as a tool to experiment with and to try to archive a certain look. Sometimes they say a girl must have long hair. I am pretty sure a woman should be free to do whatever she wants. When I was a kid, I had really long hair - below buttocks. When I was around 10 I was asking our mother to cut it off. I wanted to try a bob haircut. Since she knew she couldn't hide scissors from a kid forever, she agreed. And before making first cut she said: "Well, end of story, adieu to hair". Honestly, she made a drama out of nothing, like you cut your hair and it never grows back :) But it affected me somehow, and after that I had long hair for most of my life. People were always saying "don't cut it!". It was quite hard to tell: do I love long hair and want to keep it or it's just other people see my hair as main feature of my personality that made me think that way. During last year I finally cut off 45cm of my hair. To be honest, whatever long hair looks, it is just annoying to have it: you sit on it, you accidentally pull it into trousers after using a bathroom, it is hard to take care of it, and it is heavy and any hairstyle tends to pull down, not to mention frequent headaches caused by weight :) Who knows, if I were braver, perhaps, I would try a very short cut.

      I heard this my entire life growing up, to the point I thought it was my only "pretty" feature due to how many compliments I would get for it and how people would always tell me not to cut it short, my own sister especially. But in 2022, I got a little brave and got a bob. I was unhappy with the result, so I went to another hairdresser and had them cut off even more hair. Turns out, I made the right choice! I've had strangers approach me in the street to compliment me, I still get the same amount of compliments now as I did with long hair and even my sister has admitted it looks great (to her surprise lol), so I don't think I'll ever go back to having long hair for all the reasons you stated. I'm sure this won't be true for everyone, but I don't think anyone should regret not trying something that won't significantly alter their lives if they do - coz like you said, hair grows back

    I’m a flamboyant gamine in Kibbe so I have trouble differentiating if my face is more yang than yin since I have both technically lmao. They say gamines should have short hair but I always liked wearing my hair long because something I don’t like about my face is that I look babyfaced and anything that emphasizes how short my vertical thirds are only makes me look more childish. I also have that wide spacing that Melania has in her eyes and cheekbones so having long hair makes my face look narrower and takes away the attention to my facial length proportions. Every time I’ve gotten my hair cut short it makes me feel more childish and juvenile.

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  Před rokem +1

      Kibbe has always been confusing to me and maybe it's my lack of knowledge about the system... but I still can't figure out what I am! But I think I saw your other comment on the Ariana Grande video that you have a baby face so that probably contributes to why you don't like short hair because it highlights how youthful your face appears!

    I get some people have a “trademark” look, but if she wore her eyeliner in a less harsh way, would it help?

    • @stylemejenn

    • @vl2663
      @vl2663 Před rokem +8

      It definitely should soften her look. When I was a kid sometimes I had other kids say I was ugly and boyish looking. Growing up I realized I had a wide jawline and cheekbones (kinda like melania) which I guess made me look kinda harsh when I had bangs as a kid. So growing up I decided to not wear bangs anymore and wore my hair down and I dyed my hair lighter starting 8th grade. I also wore blush and did certain things to soften my face and look. Never had anyone call me boyish since I grew my bangs out or did any of those small tips with makeup and hair dye. Ironically now that I’m in my 20’s I’m really starting to prefer a sharp dramatic looking aesthetic like Melania and the typical Kim K snatched look so I have started to now look for ways to make myself look harsh because I realized I don’t really like looking soft. It was just a coping mechanism for the bullying I got back then. Melania can totally do things to soften her appearance. For starters wearing less eye makeup like you said and also if she wore less tan. Wore lighter makeup colors overall. Her hair is a good shade already if she wants to look softer.

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for the comment - glad you are enjoying my content!
      For shorter necks, I suggest wearing your hair down and letting it fall down both sides of your neck in order to lengthen the neck visually and elongate the upper body! Wearing your hair down will also create more contrast around your lower third which is good if you have a diamond face shape, as it will add a bit of “weight” around your jawline and balance out the cheekbone area.
      More specific recommendations would depend on other features & proportions, but these are general suggestions for shorter neck with a diamond face shape. Hope that helps!! ❤️

    Thank you for your insightful and positive videos! :)
    I was wondering if you had any suggestions for when the lowest third of your face (bottom of nose to bottom of chin) is the smallest. My eyes are a little close-set, and from your face shape video, I can see that I have between an oval and a square-shaped face, but closer to oval. I had a pixie cut for many years, and have started growing my hair out. Now that it's past my shoulders, I'm not sure how best to style it. Do I try to widen my eye-position appearance by having hair hanging close to the sides of my face? Will that make my small lower third look even more square by drawing attention to it, too? I'm sorry for the mish-mash of issues! Thank you, again.

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  Před rokem +1

      Hi - thank you for the comment! No need to be sorry - it's often the case that we have to look at multiple concerns all at once :)
      First of all with regards to close-set eyes, you should avoid wearing a middle part as it will draw more attention down the centre of your face and in between your eyes - try a side parting or even a slight 6:4 parting would help. As for the length of the hair I would need to look at your other features & proportions to make a proper reco, but apart from using your hair you can also use different makeup techniques to draw less attention to the area in between your eyes. I'm preparing a video for next week on makeup and will touch on close-set eyes briefly, so please take a look at the video next week for some makeup suggestions!
      As for your lower third / jawline, if your face shape is closer to the oval than the square, I wouldn't worry too much about your jawline drawing the attention. I'd suggest wearing your hair down to create more contrast between your hair and your skin around your lower third - that way there is more "weight" added to your lower third visually. I'm not sure if I'm picturing it correctly, but just from what you've described it made me think of Kaia Gerber. Kaia looks fantastic with a chin-level bob and if you have similar proportions to Kaia, a bob might work for you! As I've said I can't make a proper reco until I actually see the face - if you're comfortable with sharing photos of yourself I can take a look and make a better recommendation (don't worry, I wouldn't share the photos with anyone else or on this channel!)

    Melania had her hair swept back and pinned up during the inauguration in Jan 2017. This gives us a pretty good idea of what she'd look like with short hair. And it shows that with the right cut/style, she'd look pretty much the same as she does now. In many cases, it seems hair style has as much (or more) of an affect on attractiveness than length. Look up old and new pictures of Pink (the singer) and notice how different she looks when her hair is styled up and away from her face verses down. She also has angular features and looks odd with long hair. Hilary Swank is another interesting celeb when it comes to angularity. She seems to do well with a ton of different hair lengths, but certain styles make her look amazing.

    A couple years ago, i went from long curly hair to short.. and by short, i mean the majority of my head is buzzed with a #3 blade, and the crown is layered, and tapered longer to the front.. most of it is around 5-6 inches long. I’ve had a lot of people mention that it really suits my face well, but i didnt really consider that when i cut it initially. i was tired of long hair! Face wise, im a mix of Hathaway and and prianka-slightly rounded soft cheeks, long, tall nose with a wide bridge and cheeks, hairline close to my brow, jaw a tiny bit wider than my cheeks (soft face on, but a little sharper on profile) but my face is definitely longer than wide. Ive always prefered longer side bangs as it helps pop my eyes out (they tend to look sunken with same length hair), and pulling hair away from the face on one side helps highlight my checks and jaw more.. otherwise my face just looks long and shapeless. Adding in some sharper lines with a haircut really helps to balance it out, I guess ive always liked the elements of an asymetrical long pixie cut with my other styles. Right now the fringe is shorter than i prefer, but right now im dealing with some severe hair breakage.
    Anyway, do you have any tips for deepset eyes? With my nose, it often feels like they get left behind. So far, all ive been able to figure out is that a stronger blush in an almost draping fashion high up on (almmost right under the edge of my brow,) with a lighter application sharply angleddown to and including the apples (my checks can be VERY flat if im not actively in a big smile) helps draw attention to them. The more i bring the blush down my cheeks the more i seem to lose shape, and definitely start to lose my eyes again-it has to be high up on the “ridge” (not thwt i can really feel or see much of cheek ridge to begin with.)

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  Před rokem +2

      Thank you for the comment and sharing your experience! If you have deep-set eyes I assume that the distance between your eye to your brows is quite narrow? I'd need to see the face to make an accurate recommendation, but generally speaking in this case, wearing a lot of eye makeup can actually make your eye/brow area really crowded, so I'd go easy on the eye makeup on your upper lids to open up this area as much as possible, and focus more on the lower lids to create a visual illusion that your eyes are positioned slightly lower. Using a lighter colour for your brows can also help with opening up your upper lids! I'm creating a 2-part series on eyebrows this week and next week and you'll be able to see some examples of what I just explained! Hope that helps ❤

      Interesting indeed! I always thought Gamine was on the Yin side between Classic and Romantic (but I really am not knowledgeable in the whole Kibbe or Kitchener system so I could be wrong😅) I really must do more studying / research on this topic. Thanks for the insight!

      @@stylemejenn ingenue is the feminine counterpart to gamine. In Kibbie there is no I. Personally I think a lot of G and I elements are interchangeable, but that's controversial. Gamine is boyish. I actually recently made a video for boy mom's about it lol to help us dress our boys as obvious boys even when they may look a bit girly bc they are pretty (my toddler has longer lashes than I do and bright blue eyes)

    This is the same concept as women with very round faces (feminine) using a ton of contour… & women with sharper faces (masculine) don’t need contour.

    Where did you learn all this info?! Is it just something that highly piqued your interest?! Or is it an actual subject study???

      It’s a mix of all!! My own interest and also some courses and continuous studying 😆 I’m not the only channel on this topic btw - there is a number of Korean CZcams channels that teach similar logic (which is how I came across courses initially) but didn’t really see any similar channels in English so I took the opportunity to apply the theories to examples that are more suited for Western standards of beauty 💄💋

    Halle is the only one who FLAWLESSLY pulls off the pixie. I mean... pixies are the ugliest hair cut imaginable but NOT on her. She really rocks it!! Very few women can pull it off.

      I also like Jamie Lee Curtis and Charlize Theron with pixies! :)

      @stylemejenn I remember seeing JLC with a pixie in that movie with Lindsay Lohan, where they switch places. She pulled it off very well. Charlize doesn't look bad but I don't think it's "WOW" on her. I just had to look her up w/ that cut. I don't pay attention to celebs anymore. JLC still pulls it off well. Halle Berry could dress as a clown and still be gorgeous, lol.

    Hell, NO!
    There is no way some would come close to my hair with a pair of scissors!
    I don't care if I look bad or good.
    I don't care if I have low cranial top, slim face... whatever.
    I keep it long and middle parted. No layers.
    I often make a bun or wear a slouch beanie that gives a nice shape.
    I've had short haircut for all my childhood and part of teenage because my mom was obsessed with short hair and dragged me to the barber shop, later to a "hair stylist".
    Not once anyone cared about my feelings.
    On top of that, my hair was wavy and big and the complete incompetence of both hairdressers and my mom I ended up looking like a mushroom and (to my eyes) boyish.
    It was just awful and humiliating.
    I ran away as soon as I could, I let my hair grow and never looked back.
    I'm much older now.
    For some reason people always had something to say about my hair, mostly women.
    Why??? It was an obsession. I really don't know why some friends wanted me to cut my hair, just because they did and it was not a good choice in my opinion.
    Thankfully, I also have people complimenting me for my hair and my husband likes me this way.
    I wish it could grow longer, but anyway I'm at the point where it's safer to put it up before sitting on the WC and it will stay so until my last day. Well, I hope.

    That was so harsh about Melania. You might not like her husband but you can't deny she's a beautiful woman. Also a pixie cut is more of a conscious and controversial decision than just letting hair grow long. Which it does by itself. How is letting keratin grow out of your scalp 'tricking' anyone.
