- Today we are talking about how to prepare your English if you want to study in the U.S. How do you get yourself sound American? And how to become fluent in a very short period of time?
When people hear me speak English and my American accent, they think that it is only because i lived in New York for 2 years, which is not true, as my English has been on this level even before I went to study in the U.S.
🎬Check my level of English before I went to New York (I give interview on how I got accepted at EducationUSA): • EducationUSA alumni - ...
My tips on improving English level at home without spending a lot of money:

Why when non natives learn fluently to speak English they sounds more clear and flow better .. then many English' natives speaker. 🤔🤔
Because we're all perfectionist :)
Laziness. English native speakers are lazy to learn new languages. There are exceptions, of course.
Natives don't care))
Well I have an answer for your questions because non natives when they learn English language they learn everything not just speaking they learn how to pronounce some sounds in the correct ways and also they learn grammar and so on.
I think it has to do with something she said: Native speakers usually swallow some sounds. In fact, that is the reason why, in the past years, it was more difficult for me to spot what words native speakers were saying than any non-native speaker. They understand each other even skipping some sounds and it's faster this way, so why not xD. It makes it difficult for non-native English speakers to know what they are saying, though xD
My English level is B2. I don't read books, but sometimes i read online articles, and hardly ever newspapers. Now I'm going to start reading books to improve my English. Thanks 👍
I started to write my diary, so I hope to get a great english level as you have one day. Thank you for your advice.
This is so important!!!!!
Upper intermediaters have so much less resources and experience shared to help guide us go through this phase.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for pieces of advice. I am an upper intermediate and I partly agree with you. You are totally right when you say the best way to improve your speaking skills and get rid of your native language accent is by shadowing or repeating what natives say. On the other hand, I don't totally agree with you when you say we must translate to our native language when we are reading and we don't understand something, I have always used a monolingual dictionary to look up for the meaning of new words, it not only helps you to understand the meaning of the word, but also helps you to learn new words at the same time. Thanks a million, and I really hope I can step up my game and be an advanced user of the language someday. 😁
Tip 1: start watching friends (But they speak fast 😭)and try to speak like your favourite character.
Tip 2: Start Reading Novels(A boring subject to me 😅) whether it takes extra time.
Tip 3: Start using a dictionary (google translater, as I am using for writing it 😂) whenever you find difficulties in understanding.
Tip 4: start writing everything in English (like a sorry letter to your x- girlfriend 😂).
Tip 5: start talking with native( but how to make a friend 😅😂 ) speakers on social media like skype
Here I would like to add one more tip.
Tip 6: start using Grammarly keyboard. It checks your grammar and suggests your correct sentences while you type on a phone.
When i read a books, i don't understand almost everything
But I love Shakespeare, I dreamed to read his books(original, in english) and understand everything
Thank you for suggestion!
Finally I've found useful tips! I was so frustrated about my English recently. Thank you do much!
Great tips! Just the video I needed. Love the way you speak, I gonna do shadowing with your videos.
Many thanks!
These videos are really helpful, I watch them with my friends on Voicely whenever we practice English. We all agree that we learned more from CZcams videos than from the English "lessons" we have at school
Indeed a very helpful lesson for learning English in a comprehensive way. Thanks.
Congratulations! You are doig very well with your english. I am looking forward to reach the same English level as you have already reached. Thanks for sharing that tips and your personal experience, it is so helpful.
Thank you, defenitly the best video regarding to this topic, I loved the idea to write down a diary, I always do that in spanish but I would never think doing it in english, thank you!
I have attained similar results literally by doing almost all what you've already mentioned way before I stumbled upon this video: Shadowing, watching with English subs, reading, translating the word, checking its context, talking to myself (as crazy as that might sound lmao). My spoken English leveled up ever since. Now I feel more confident, more at ease, and definitely more open to talking (although I'm an introvert). So yeah! Your advice is very practical and I recommend every person watching this to actually try it... you'd be surprised!
how long time to move from intermediate to fluency in English
Thank you so much for this video! I actually did the same in order to learn german by myself and it was crazy how fast I learned it .
I'm trying to learn german but firstly I'm going to try to get the next level in english, the advanced level, I'm intermediate, so I'll use this advices to improve my english (I hope I can do this faster) and then I'll do the same thing to German.
Thank you so much 🥰
I've just finished 1st tip Shadowing with your accent
Thank you so much for your worthy advices!
Hi Rudmila, firstly, as an English teacher and native speaker from the UK, I have to say that your tips are excellent. I have made similar recommendations to some of your tips here. I will share this video with my upper-intermediate level learners.
You are obviously a very disciplined at self-study and your motivation to put in the hard yards must have been a key factor in achieving your superb level of fluency and pronunciation in English. If I had heard you speak before knowing about this video, I would have said you were American without a shadow of a doubt.
You've probably noticed that I'm using some idiomatic phrases, so how have you approached learning this aspect of English language?
Regarding speaking to people who have strong regional accents, this would be a challenge for many native soeakers too. It's all about getting used to the different pronunciation of some vowel sounds and individual words and phrases. English communication is also strongly affected by intonation and stress, which you have absolutely nailed to perfection.
In this video.
Now here is another question for you, I hope you don't mind. How many hours of practice have you put into studying and improving your English from when you first began to learn English? My guess is that it would probably be around 10,000 hours, depending on a person's mother tongue and efficiency at learning. For example, studying and practising the four language skills of speaking, writing, reading and listening; this requires a lot of practice and repetition. To dedicate 10,000 hours to this could equate to an average of 1.82 hours everyday over 15 years. Many students of English may not appreciate this when they first start out, so the key is having a clear objective to drive you and practise as often as time permits, not just going to English classes or paying for English teachers and/or courses.
I 've taught english as a second language for over 35 years and I've practiced these tips throughout the years and they really work. I love your accent and admire how much enthusiasm you have towards english learning and how you project that enthusiasm to all your viewers. So, thank you for your energy you have to promote english learning to the world. Keep it up girl.
Your English is very good, but one correction: English speakers spell English with upper case...
@@annasamek5179
I started to study English after the age of 70. I developed my reading and writing based on my explicit knowledge but as far as my listening and speaking are concerned, I have not improved much. Does age matter to speak like you?
@@annasamek5179 unsolicited and rude. A lot of "English speakers" WRITE no better English than him.
Thank you for your experience. I'm gonna try reading books in English and shadowing.
I'm absolutely agree with you, You captured all my attention,
I focused on your t-shirt. "how you doing" is Joey as character in the best tv show "friends"
I loved this video thank you for sharing. I'm intermediate and I think all of it will help me a lot from now on. How was your schedule to do all this things? I'm mean how many time spend in all this activities? How long it lasts for you to achieve such amazing level? You are an inspiration for me. Hugs from Brazil🇧🇷
Tks Radmila. Your english is amazing and sharing your experiences inspires to continue trying to improving. I am intermidiate and feel like stuck in this level, but decided to follow your steps.
Yes thanks🤗
you’re so fluent! i love to learn with you, pls make more videos about english! i’d like to watch it. also you deserve a lot of viewers and subscribers!
thank you!!
It's the first time I've heard you and the truth is that I could understand you although I need to slow down the video to understand you better, but I liked it. Please continue making videos. thank you
Great tips, Radmila! Thank you so much.=) I need to keep writing my journal. I know it's useful but couldn't make it a habit yet.
Great
Before watching this video I already have my notebook, I wrote all I could from my books and like to investigate too, try to speak a lot with people and myself too, obviously need always someone that is correcting any mistakes you may have. I am new but now I love this channel, her English is incredible
I just discovered this and I love it. Thanks for your help.
This is awesome! This will help so many people! Watching movies in subtitles is a great idea!

My Dear Sister where are you from?
This year I was hired by a company where everyone speaks English. Before that, I wasn't confident speaking English, but now I feel confident speaking English. I made lots of mistakes speaking English for many reasons but the biggest reason was that I was afraid of being judged. So guys, make mistakes and don't worry about being judged, for sure you are gonna improve your fluency in speaking without any translation in your native language, I'm proof of that. If you don't have who to practice with, don't worry you can practice with yourself, just stay steady and everything will be fine.
Muchas gracias!!!!
Awesome. You just summarized perfectly the "magic trick" promised by CZcams English teachers to learn this language effectively. Thanks a lot.
Hi Radmila, you know, I don't mind translating, but one technique I learned and used with many of my students was "breaking the mirror". In this case, you want to explore the different possibilities of a word or expression in as many situations as possible. For example, you can use an adjective like "hard", then you can think of possible uses for it, like hard table, hard day, hard working man (which is an adverb, in fact), and so on. You can also explore some techniques, such as strong collocations, fixed or semi-fixed expressions, phrasal verbs, etc. This is just a suggestion.
But I loved your video and took many notes, so I can give some of your tips to my students. Thank you for the video.
I'm from Nicaragua and I'm I'm really astonished for English Accent, taking into account your original country. Congratulations! I really enjoyed this video. Keep going so!
so you can pass the USA border easily ..hahahha
Uallll your English is amazing, I’ve been living in England for about 4 and a half years and I just found your video to improve my English level. Thanks for the tips and congrats for your achievement !
I agree with you, I can't understand a word without translating it to my native language. the language just a tool. as long as we can understand each other when we are talking, that's just enough for me.
Thanks for your tips, they’re really useful. I’ve already done some of them, but I’ll try to read more and keep a diary. (:
Hey Joyce! I would love to know your opinion about my videos. I have recently started teaching on CZcams! Let me know what you think!
You are an excellent teacher!👏
I highly recommend practice watching speaking tests, either from Cambridge or any other YT channel and try to answer the questions the interviewer is asking to the guys before they answer (and then, once you finishe, check the guys' answer and compare it to yours)...and as last, what I do is try to give a second answer after the guys said their reply, contrasting their pov (that way is like if you were interacting with them). Hope this could help anyone here! :D
Thanks for your tips and i Will apply it.. let's goooo
Thank you for your tips ❤
Hi, I've been using that strategy for almost 1 month, and honestly, it really helped me a lot. As a matter of fact, I wasn't getting your strategy for me to learn English, It was just a coincidence that we have the same strategy. I was just kinda thinking at that time if what strategy or those things that would gonna improve my English fluency. but yeah thank you also for this video because it also gave me hope to continue this strategy, and yeah the outcome of it were beneficial.
Instead of translating unknown words into the native language, I would recommend defining the word in the target language. This should not be too difficult for an intermediate learner and would produce greater benefits.
Thank you for your tips !!
You're really good at English. You're astonishing.I wrote diary too and it really helped me to structure sentences, think in English .
Awesome tips, hopefully you'll help me to improve my English skills.
Hey Aljun! I would love to know your opinion about my videos. I have recently started teaching on CZcams! Let me know what you think!
As a History student I make some researches in English instead of my native language, Portuguese. It helps me to improve my vocabulary, not just in this field but in sofisticated, unusual an beautiful words that unfortunatelly are not used anymore in our days.
Are you Brazilian too? I thought I was the only one here lol
Big thanks🎈❤️🎈
thank you to share it
The good thing of wearing a mask is that I can speak to myself in English without anybody noticing it
Same lol and singing to yourself right?
the same here, pal! It's my strategy every single day ;D let's keep the mask on for a while
That's the best thing about this whole pandemic situation lol
Same
I speak to myself everyday in the house without wearing a mask but out of the house I can't speak to myself out the house they will think that I'm crazy.
I really don't understand why people unliked it! It's rare to see a video like that one. Your video is very realistic et not only the same advice that we can find in other videos. Especially the first tip, "Shadowing", is something that I've been practiced for a long time, but I've rarely seen someone talking about that. Congratulations!
Thank you!
THEY ARE WEAKY JUST IT
I really don't understand that people can't accept that not everyone likes what they like.. So you never disliked one single video in your life?

Estou no nivel intermediario mas eu não sei falar muito bem, so compreendo um pouco
Can we practice?
Hi! I'm a first year BS Psychology student here in the Philippines. After I finish my undergrad, I'm planning to study abroad for my further studies. My English level is upper intermediate. Eventhough, I understand the english language perfectly, it's still hard for me to speak in english. Your advices seems very effective and I'm planning to practice them. Hopefully they'll work for me. Thank you for your video.
Can we practice?

Thank you so much.
Thank you this can helps me to improve my english accent
You dont memorize separate words, you have to memorize the whole sentence! Thus you will know in which context to use it.
What a beautiful and insightful woman. I also thought you were an English native speaker. Congratulations! and thanks for give me motivation.
Tremendous! Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for these tips, I want to improve my English but I feel stuck trying to do so many things and learning nothing. This video was very helpful.
Hi. I love your ideas and I have used these methods like shadowing, diary writing, reading original English books, but I didn't stick to it for a long time. So I am kind of stuck in the upper intermediate level.
You are not alone 😭😂
And your also not alone
Me too😇
I'm from Japan, and I try to meet the native speakers
2:17 fast forward there. That's when the video starts
So
Thnks
Thank you for those tips. Actually, I didn't wright on english before this video, thinking it wasn't really important, but now I thought this could improve my level much farther. Earlier I had listened many interesting for me native speakers on youtube channels, trying to imitate their accent, so eventually I've took a nice level on this part. Now I will expand my writing skills. Thank you again for the advices.
I'm actually loving everything about your lessons!
The only character I can shadowing is Groot
She is so smart that she speaks literally perfect American English as a native Russian!
Not perfect. But still very very good indeed
It's literally impossible to get rid of an accent when you speak a foreign language if you haven't had an opportunity to learn it since you were a child. BUT... It's pretty rude to tell a person who really speaks perfect English or German or whatever that's it's not perfect. IT'S JUST PERFECT from the perspective that it's still stays a foreign language for her, and she's capable of speaking it the way a lot of native speakers can't even dream of! So stay humble and make some compliments from time to time instead of being that snobbish 🙂
@@nientemai7429 … the previous poster was not being rude at all. Someone stated that she spoke perfect English and that person pointed out that she didn’t but, spoke very very good English. This is true, she made a few grammar mistakes here and there. I also doubt she is offended by that observation and is probably aware of the mistakes she made.. just hasn’t been able to avoid them yet without thinking about them.
@@r.charlesmanning2483 it's just my humble opinion, when someone points out to me that I'm not a native speaker in 4 languages that I speak pretty fluently, and that someone's never been asked to share his/her opinion, especially when it has nothing to do with the situation we're in, I personally feel myself humiliated. Like hey you're not a native speaker, take back your place and don't pretend to be one! The flaws should be pointed out when their "owner" isn't aware of them, otherwise it's rude, believe me!
You'd better listen and not saying such silly things, she is not a russian
Love this channel!
Nice to know, thanks a lot for shearing :3
I will put every tip in practice for 6 months and then I will go back here to talk about my results.

Since last 10 years I was watching CZcams for those who are expressing their knowledge about learning English language.
This video is the best of them, even if they were teachers in schools or professors in universities. Your advices came from experience and real results, not only theories like others.
About my self, I am preparing for IELTS next month, and I hope to get band 6.!
But the miracle is what I sow in my daughter, she started watching English songs in CZcams since she was 2 years old, now she is 6, and she is speaking English like native, with British accent.! By the way, we did not live in any country that speak English, and I did not get her to school, or help her by any way, except an open plan of internet ... and an tablet.
How you can explain that ?.
Wow thats imazing
Damn! I love hearing Russian-speaking English with their accent. You`re almost an American speaker ;)
Have you ever heard a Russian speaking English? I assure you it's not the case! She's just perfect, a subtle accent can be heard but still she nailed it pretty well!
Just a slight tint of a foreign accent. Americans would think she was raised in the US in an immigrant family. But they wouldn't recognize a Russian accent for sure.
It is a huge help. thanks a lot
Really. You're fantastic. I love your way. Same here thanks so much

SUCH A BRILLIANT CONTENT!!!有史以來最有用幫學外文影片沒有之一!!!
Literally, everything I have ever done. Thank you for sharing.
I, myself, am a C1+ level learner of the English language and I do follow an American Accent with its dialect. North American to be exact.
And by the way, something I have done to be able to do that is watching the same movie over 100 times. Yes 100 Times. I was just copying and imitating the actors' monologues and dialogues (dialogs). By imitating, I mean complete feeling-copying, intonation-copying ... literally everything I was able to see.
Very useful advice. Thank you very much !
