    Awesome looking knife. Not one that I would normally buy - but would love to get my hands on it for a review of it's doing the rounds. Great of Paddy and Judd to send it across the sheugh!!

      Get involved, brother! Contact Paddy. I'd like to see what you make of it. Your thumbnail on the Victorinox and mini pens videos were brilliant, mate👌. Hope you're good MB? 👊

      It's a cool knife! I loved having a look! It's made me look at friction folders in a new light.
      It's a brilliant price for what you are getting. If you compare that to similar knives.
      Thank you Paddy and thank Judd. Cheers mate!!

    Not my cup of tea but I am fascinated by the blade design, I will stick to slip joints however nice to see alternative options. 😁

      It's definitely good to see what's out there and get it in hand. It was very good of Paddy and Judd to pass it around.
      How are you Lewis. I've taken your advice on the museum video literally and just going to show footage of me filming it. It's a bit raw, but then it's like you're all coming along with me. Hope you are good mate? 👊

    I really like the blades on these. They are very reminiscent of the Grimmsmo brothers, knives… albeit at a much more affordable price. The machining of the handles, a little too rough and ready on the carbon, but just about right for the micarta.

    • @SteelCityKnives
      @SteelCityKnives  Před 6 měsíci

      Do they make the Norseman? Joe brought them up on the live as a comparison. I'm not too knowledgeable about friction folders. It's a very interesting knife. I wanted to compare it to the quiet carry limited edition knife that has a stepped milled blade but for $300. I probably rushed the video.
      I'm missing your videos, Eric. 🫡

      @jamesstephenson2346 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @SteelCityKnives yes. They make the norseman and the rask. I have the norseman, and hate it honestly. Nonsense reddit users conned me into thinking i needed it, and boy a mistake. Anyhow, great vids, and subscribed!

  • @ianrosie4431
    @ianrosie4431 Před 6 měsíci +2

    If you raise the tang so it sits above the handle, you can use reverse grips which greatly increases a friction folders utility, and arguably, makes it more secure than a slipjoint. Popular in medieval times, but now forgotten.

    • @SteelCityKnives
      @SteelCityKnives  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Is that why companies leave it proud out of the handle? That makes sense. Cheers for that.
      It's got to be the first pocket knife the friction folder? 😂
      There is a bit of a club for them on Facebook, I believe?

    • @ianrosie4431
      @ianrosie4431 Před 6 měsíci

      Leaving it proud will give you better indexing but for reverse grips the end of the tang needs to sit well above the handle. Yeah, the first pocket knives, as we know them, were friction folders. The French Siamois is a good example. @@SteelCityKnives

    How you doing mate?
    Fantastic video…
    Really enjoyed Paddy and Jud’s live with Joe!!!
    Really like this knife, and super impressed by Joe’s near obsessive drive for perfection!
    I really think he’s taken the friction folder design to a new level!!!
    Totally get what you’re saying about friction folders.. tang lengths etc…
    £170 ish is a lot of money but when you consider the amount of work and dedication that’s gone into bringing this into production, I think it’s a fair price.
    Thanks brother, catch you soon 👊🏻

    • @SteelCityKnives
      @SteelCityKnives  Před 6 měsíci +1

      It's a fair price for what he's put into this knife. I agree with you. Sean, I must have watched both lives so many times each whilst I was at work. I made notes of rockwell hardness and stories he talked about. His jewlery course. And I didn't bring any of it up 😂. Both the lives were brilliant!

    I'm not sure about this one.
    I love the blade, and it looks really well engineered, but I'm not a great lover of the opening method.

    Morning brother, firstly I love a friction folder but I'll be honest I don't like this granted he has thought long and hard about the design but not for me way too fussy , and the lines on the blade surely they will interfere with the sharpening? At some point 🤔 , I do feel bad now slagging it off but gotta be honest haven't we 👊
