every time I listen to secondhand serenade, I have this clear-as-day reoccurring memory of when I was 13, riding in the car with my family up to our summer house in maryland, in the back seat with my little brother. listening to this song for the 100th time on my first gen ipod as we're driving along this beautiful winding mountainous road with such lovely scenery and the sun is shining brightly through the car windows.
and everything is just... good again.
me and my brother are actually close and have a relationship again - he's this young happy boy full of energy and excitement for life as opposed to his current depressed addict self. and my mom is happy again, sitting in the passenger seat smiling over at my (now ex) stepdad as he drives. and my biggest worry in that moment was being an angsty emo teenager hoping to god I wouldn't lose reception when we got there so I could still be able to reach my middle school boyfriend who I missed already.
it always takes me back to this moment in my life. such fond memories.... it’'s interesting how our brains hold onto a specific moment in time of our lives and we can recall it clear as day, no matter how much time has passed.
