    THERE is a sense of sadness in Letterkenny following the death of talented musician Ted Ponsonby.
    Ted passed away yesterday (Wednesday).
    A son of Molly and Terry, he was a member of the Ponsonby family from Old Town, Letterkenny who are well known for their musical talents.
    Ted was married to Marylin and was a father of one, Sarah.
    Ted and Sarah teamed up during lockdown to record ‘Brakin’ Trad’, a collection of mainly self-penned songs.
    He was a founding member of The Rascals during the 1970’s, and he was widely known throughout the country for his talents on the guitar, song-writing and producing.

    Delores is one of a kind with her beautiful natural Galway accent which will never be equalled.. I love all her songs especially Galway Bay. It puts goosebumps all over me. I am a Galwegian living in Clare, & have requested that Galway Bay by Delores & Johnny Faulkner be played as my remains are removed from the church and My soul to soar forever more Above you Galway Bay

    She is a wonderful singer......at her gradam win she sang ... don’t know if it was live or not as she had not been well. But I could listen to her for ever. Pity her career stopped so soon. I read that Emmy Lou Harris said she was one of the best singers she ever performed with!! Her lovely Galway accent adds to her singing and her ready smile and twinkling eyes a joy to behold. I’d love to hear her entire family do an album together ❤

    My father played traditional music for many years so I would have plenty of experience of live music in pubs and so on. For some reason every time I hear Ted's verse it brings me back to being beside the speakers watching the band play. So much so I can even smell the beer smell from the bar! Wonderful song.

    I love this woman singing. The enjoyment she is getting by always breaking into a smile when she can hear how good it sounds and it is all gelling nicely. I was the same many years ago when I sang and played in a band. When it all came together, I would be grinning from ear to ear. Sometimes smiling so much I could not sing some words and had to miss them. Hek, I'd even laugh or giggle halfway through a song and have to stop. The sounds of the instruments and in tune vocals hitting my ears just overwhelmed me. Dolores is one woman I have always wanted to sing alongside, for the past near 30 years. Alas, a man can dream on I suppose.

    • @WhosAGoodDogue
      @WhosAGoodDogue Před 2 lety

      @sarahspeaks144 - Totally agree. And it's made _much_ more enjoyable when the audience is respectful and quiet, drinking it all in and really appreciating what is entering their ears: not whistling, baying, whooping or hollering so you can't hear a damn thing! (American audiences take note!)

    • @WhosAGoodDogue
      @WhosAGoodDogue Před 2 lety

      @Noel Condon - Crikey! the chance _would_ be amazing, but, for minions like me, there's no way it could happen. I wouldn't even know where to start enquiring as to how it could be done. I mean, she's played with famous people all over the world, there's no way she'd even think twice about playing and singing with an unknown 'amateur'.
      There must be many folk all gushing to her saying ''I'm your biggest fan....I have all yer albums etc'' But not me, I don't own a single CD or album of hers. I would be terrified of wanting to approacher her after a concert asking for an autograph. I mean, in this day and age, they'd think you were some freak who is a stalker or wants something from her (money or whatever).
      But no, I would just like to play a few tunes and sing with her, like a small Transatlantic Session. As said though...a boy can dream huh! Many thanks for the comment. Kind regards. Dogue.

    What a voice, every time I listen to Dolores Keane, I can't help but compare other singers who perform the same song. Her voice is deeeep and very
    explicit. Love her voice! Not that other singers are inferior but hers has something that really rings the bell!

      The late, lamented Ron Hynes. 1950-2015, St John's, Newfoundland. I believe Dolores learned it when we had the great privilege of having her visit Newfoundland late '70's, early '80's.

    • @IndigoJo
      @IndigoJo Před 2 lety

      @@hilarydickson7836 I believe this version was learned from Christy Moore. Same three verses as in his version, and in Mary Black's and the version the two did with Emmylou Harris. Two of the verses from the original are missing, and the last was added by Hamish Imlach at Moore's request, according to Hynes, because he felt the song lacked an ending. Jean Redpath has a version on here with all five verses and more.
