    Honestly one of the best general fly fishing videos I've watched. You're a phenomenal teacher! Edit: Also can't wait to catch my first Musky at Lake Audubon this spring!

    I also use the Chippewa river custom rod (At the suggestion of Brad Bohen) and I highly recommend it. The one piece design and moderate action casts beautifully. It’s so much more forgiving then a super fast rod like most musky flyrods. I like the scientific anglers titan sonar 3/5/7 and the H/2/4 450 grain line on it. The 10/11 wt casts 12” flies with three articulations no problem.
    It’s also a great price as far as muskie fly rods go.

    thank you, awesome video,Thank you for sharing, I don't understand when you say that you take out 3 o 4 feet out the shooting head? Please advise¡¡¡ Best regards.

      Pauchi Heart thanks for the kind words. Yes I use airflo big game depthfinder. It’s 30 foot head; I cut it back 3 or 4 feet when I put the leader on. Helps shoot easier when casting. I hope this helps. Reach out anytime.

    Not new to fly fishing but new to pike and musky. My question is about leader setup. I’ve always made my own but not sure about this application. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. A combo for Lake St. Clair fishing about 10’ Any suggestions? Thanks 🎣🎣🎣

    Awesome info brother! I was wondering, what reel do you have paired up with the 12wt rod?

    • @pogopike8340
      @pogopike8340  Před 3 lety +1

      Any 11/12 weight reel will do the trick. You don’t ever really have to get an Esox on the drag. Something light or well balanced I like.

    Awesome video. What's your opinion on a entry level Pike Musky rod reel combo. That's not going to break the bank? Fishing dark water rivers in Northern Minnesota.

    Hello!

  • @bjornchristiansson2827

    Do you cut of the front taper of the Depthfinder lines ?
    I'm assuming that as they comes in 30' heads and you say you around 24'.
    I personally like short heavy head 20-25' I never fish the depthfinder. I have use shooting head and mono shootingline started whit that in the 80s the only bad part is the junction!
    In the old Cortland whit lead tread you could push in the mono in the core and come out the side and do a looking nut and wind of whit tread and glue. But as the new standards come to play this is not working any more. We don't have Musky here in Scandinavia but big pike we do have. And they take on big flies some days! So that 10/11# is ideal here.
    Most people go for 9/10# rods and lines.
    Intermediate is popular here but I basically never fish pike whit those. Sink 3" and sink 9" cover it as I'm see it.
