    Well done on being so brave to share and for recognising that your health (mental and physical) is the real priority. I think we can all learn from your example and not forget ourselves with everything going on around us. I hope you feel much better very soon!

    I did for a year to focus on my career and family. Switched schools and now my dissertation is in the revision process. You got this!

    Oh, Lucy. You are the best person to decide what is the best for you, but I'm sorry that you have been feeling so overwhelmed. When you're barely surviving, that's not living. I hope you have a restorative few months now, and begin to feel better. Speaking from experience, the puppy could be one of the best investments you make for your mental health. We fostered a rescue last September and it was a shock to the system how much training and attention he needed. It was months before we felt we had adjusted to this new "family member", and now he is honestly the best thing we ever did. He brings so much into our house, and it was worth those very stressful few months. Take care of yourself! X

    I'm thinking in my second semester in Feb 2023 of my first year of my degree. My mental health (Anxiety, ADHD) has not been great since December 2022 also and I'm considering talking to an academic mentor to focus on exercise and diet for maybe 3 months. I will make my decision in about 7 days after having a week from Uni. I want to lower stress levels and come back stronger.

    Thank you so much for being so honest about the whole process. Does it affect your funding? I'm funded by Techne and wondered if they extend your funding or freeze it?

      Hey which uni are you at? I’m applying to techne and I need some help! 😭

    • @LucyHargrave
      @LucyHargrave  Před 3 lety

      Hey K it doesn’t affect my student loan, I think more than 6 months might but at the moment I’m just taking a month off so it should be fine ☺️

  • @anuragchakraborty8766

    Lucy thanks for posting this video.
    I completed my PhD in Mechanical Engineering last year and haven't managed to find a decent job yet. I am on the lookout for Postdoc opportunities in my area of expertise (Computer simulations). Would you happen to know someone at University of Birmingham who needs to hire a Postdoc researcher or needs a Postdoc vacancy filled?
    If you could refer me to somebody that would be a massive help. Good luck on your journey as well.

    Mental illness won't be that daunting if not for the social stigma attached to it.
