Steph was best surfer of the day. Carissa was the best surfer in the world throughout the whole year. She's the true champ (no hates on steph, but on the new format)

Carissa Moore won. Screw that new format. She killed all year. Proved to be the world champ throughout the whole tour schedule.

Every year Carissa makes the top 5 she’ll have a shot at a title too. Just like Gilmore did. Heart breaking loss, but the reality is this format opens up future opportunity’s for Carissa too. Trust me, if Carissa comes from further down the ranks to get a world title in the future, she’ll be glad she had the opportunity to do just that.

As an Aussie geriatric long boarder I have heaps of respect for Carissa. A few/many years ago at Greenmount before the Snapper event she was training on the rocks doing stretches and gave me a Shaka on the way to the surf and paddling out for a slide, made my day. Good Luck this year.

    It's so tough...
It's understandable that having a Final Event, where everything is decided, can translate to more attention to the sport and more $$$.
But that said, I just can imagine more and more heartbreaks happening like Carissa had. The work, blood, sweat and tears of a WHOLE YEAR can be erased because of a ONE-DAY wave condition, or a bad judging heat by people we don't know their name, their faces, their story with surfing, their history of heats judged, ... or even feeling bad health-wise on the day. It's just unfair on the competition side of things, to a sport that already CAN BE shady due to the subjectivity of judging. This format DOES NOT decide the best surfer of the season, but just the best of the day, on that specific condition.
Tough to balance the business and integrity of competition, but I think the latter should be hurt as little as possible in this clash 😕

The WSL ran a con game with this final format. YES. A con game.

@@jansmith3158 Tough man... It really sucks.
Fortunately, Gabriel and Carissa won the first time around, but this was bound to happen to someone, and between Felipe and Carissa last year, she was the first "lucky" one. And by the looks of it, I'd say she won't be by herself for too long.

100% Agree, new format is wrong in so many levels...

Carissa was the real winner of the 2022 World Title. 🎉🏆
This new final contest is BS and the winnner of the new final format is NOT the true World title Winner for that year. Plain and simple.
Now with this new final format it's quite obvious there is RIGGING in the judging.
Shame on the WSL for RIGGING who wins the World Title now.

I love Carissa. She's a class act which makes it sooo easy to root for her. I like Gilmore too. Both are great for sure.

Riss, you didn’t lose the title, the WSL changed the rules and robbed you. Period. Imagine, how many times did Kelly place in top 5 on tour? Okay, now give Kelly 20% more titles! That’s what he now deserves!!! because WSL cheapened what it means. Period. I like Steph, but she didn’t win a title, she won an event and didn’t have the points for the title. Period! No one is fooled. In fact, maybe Kelly deserves 50% more titles for each year he was in the top 5! Why? He’s better than the average odds! WSL owes you and apology for changing the rules. WSL might as well forget points and just hold only one event at Trestles and crown a champs. WSL made surfing lame and meaningless; they stole the prestige of a title from generations of surfers.

Carissa won the World Title Even Steph admitted it.
Only way this format works is to have it end at a wave of consequence and even then it is still not right.

Putting in work is all one can control. The results will take care of themselfs. 🐢💦 Carrisa is a hard worker. She is the greatest example of a winner.

Love Steph, but the format is bullshit. The WSL needs surfers like Carissa WAAAYYY more than she needs them. Soon enough red bull will pay surfers enough to form a new league.
