My parents both had a number of partners before they met, got married, and have been happily married now for over 50 years. As far as I know they've also been faithful too, which is a biggie and many people are not. But when they got married my Dad was 36- which was pretty old at the time. Kids at soccer games would ask if he was my grandpa, though things have changed now and there are a lot more older parents. It was my Mom's previous experiences with other lovers that convinced her he was the one, and to propose to him.

It is all about expectations. People have been brainwashed by television and the idea of what love should look like. They get dissapointed of the reality of a relationship. A relationship is a work in progress. It is also very logical to me that woman cheat to now a days. Men started this and woman take over now. I wish it was like the old days to just like you said.
