  • In 24 hours, on December the 1st to the 2nd, 2017, the small Victorian Town, Euroa actually got rain.
We are often missed by the rain, as it goes either side of us.
But on the first 2 days of Summer 2017 we received 158mm (recorded in my rain gauge on the West side of Town)
Now I know if you live in the tropics, this is a normal occurrence, however in inland Euroa, our creeks have flooded before with a 54mm downpour.
This was a record amount of rainfall for our area, in this short period of time.
My house roof leaked down one wall and the toilet light fitting was filled with water.
Thankfully there was no wind, it was eerily still, otherwise the damage would have been so much worse.
At Skydive Euroa, our roof leaked on one side of the hanger and through the fireplace, soaking the parachute packing mat.
Bicarbonate Soda worked a treat to get rid of the smell, once the carpets were dry and you would never know it even happened.
The Premier of Victoria, Daniel Andrews, dropped into the Drop Zone (what we call the place where parachutes land) in a helicopter, to visit the affected township.
Mr Andrews was welcomed by our DZSO Ian Matthews.
He didn’t see our damage, we just got on with the clean up.
His arrival was a nice distraction, as we like helicopters and so got to get a good look at the chopper, it would be luxurious to jump out of and all skydivers would agree.
The cleanup at the Drop Zone took just over 2 weeks and my roof and electrical was fixed shortly after, thanks to friends and a local sparky.
It would have been nice to spread that rainfall out over a few months.
We got average rainfall that year thanks to the downpour but we are now back in drought 16 months on.
This is footage from the event, filmed and edited on my phone so we can remember the day it rained.
I had not intended to make a video or did I go out of my way to film anything for a video as less people out and about unnecessarily, the better, this is just what I had.
    Bridge footage thanks to Niki.
