    Schecter isn't just showing Gibson that those colors work on those shapes, they are also showing them that for your money you can have supreme quality, not just a name on the headstock of a status symbol.
    And as to that greeny headstock, I actually like the current "old Kalamazoo" headstock they've been using. With triple binding it ends up looking super ornate.

      None of these 20k guitars are made for players. They’re set so high so real collectors will think they can trade them like stocks. Seeing as how Adam Jones Lp went to 20k pretty quick after release (due to collectors not players), Gibson figured hey why not just keep it all for ourself and leave no meat on the bone? Sick world we live in..

    1:36 Pat Stump from FOB and Ryan Key from Yellowcard both have a 2002ish Pewter colored SG Special. I only know that because I have the same guitar. Open pore finish with a satin silver that feels great. I’ve been looking at swapping my 498t/490r for the Kramer Eruption set and maybe a new look to give it a fresh new lease on life.

    The last SG I owned was a 2012 Standard and also had a 1989 Special which was unique because the fretboard was shifter right on that model year to feel more like an LP.
    That said, I sold both since I preferred the tone and feel of my LPs and PRS Singlecuts.

    What I’ve been waiting for. Thinking about an SG ‘61 in that teal translucent shade or in Pelham Blue. Otherwise might think about an LP Standard in Blueberry Burst, Ocean Blue, or Inverness Green. More likely to go the SG route because I would have to thin my existing herd for an LP.

    I have a beautiful, yet simple LP black gold hardware studio from 2016 series. Love it. i guess I really don't aspire to even bother to entertain anything they are pushing today. Except to get what they do the best, a Standard or Custom LP. In their own right, they are gold standard to have and play because they are still to me the best in that area. it would be cool of Gibson went out of the box, and explore new models all together, not regurgitate the same models with new color finishes. EB and and even Fender are branching out with some interesting options etc. It will take more than a paint job to invest on a new Gibson. A huge no on anything Adam Jones signature as a customer, if I was buying it, but love the band! Gibson has the ability to do really anything they want, and may not want to do anything new, but you can only redress their existing models and try to push it out as something to entice customers. No hate to Gibson, but seriously, nothing really to see here.

    I have a hondo 2 it is heavy as hell. It sounds awesome I use it for drop D, E standard and C# tuning. I now will only use it for recording and have the guitar strap higher so I don’t injure my self.
    I currently use a modded mars guitar that’s extremely light. It is so much lighter than any standard size instrument I have used.
    My interest in light guitars started because of Kurt Cobain.He had those mustangs.

    I didn't know people shit on the Gibson Tributes. That's too bad, it's the closest thing we've got to a Fender Mexican/PRS S2 line. I think they're a really good addition to the lineup.
    Overall, though, at the high end, I feel strongly that Gibson is at a high risk of buyers passing them by in favor of Heritage, or Eastman, or another brand that puts good quality lutherie over a headstock logo. They NEED to expand their lineup of desirable models and shapes, and not just at the $20-50k price point. C'mon. And the fact that they refuse to put out a Ripper Bass is unforgivable! 😡😡😡
    P.S. Also, I love when people write in and ask "Hey Hunter, have you seen [whatever] guitar?" Yes. Yes, he has. Hunter sees all. 😂

  • @DenDenBMX
    @DenDenBMX Před 7 měsíci +10

    I'm one of the people that's complaining about the price of the V, because it's becoming more and more obvious that gibson doesn't care about working class musicians, obviously all of their focus is making these limited run murphy labs that they price-gouge for a literal downpayment on a house, and you know they just get sold to the share-holders and Cesar's rich friends. All their prices just keep going up while their quality control remains sub-par, if you're paying upwards of $3k you shouldn't have to worry about getting a good top or not having any QC issues, yet you're still gambling your money when you buy a gibson. Speaking of not caring about working class musicians, idk what's more of a rip off, spending $1500 on the most stale barebones gibson imaginable or spending it on an epiphone that looks just like those slash afd special-ii beginner guitars just with the OpEn BoOk hEaDsToCk, both have a depressingly decent chance of coming with QC issues, the latter of which was obviously just an excuse to price gouge epiphones just as egregiously, why just give the people what they want when you can bleed them dry for it right? I love the Gibson Les Paul and for awhile these new owners seemed pretty chill but their blatant greed these past few years is quickly obliterating all of the good will they gained when they took over, inflation isn't an excuse, stop letting them use that as a scapegoat for openly price-gouging. This is all coming from someone who's idolized this brand and their guitars since I was a child, and I think it sucks that Gibson is openly alienating a huge number of their fan base, but of course i'll just get labeled as a hater by Gibson and the elitist rich grandpas fans because they can't handle hearing even the most minor of criticisms

    • @edtlonsway
      @edtlonsway Před 6 měsíci +1

      First, no one should do anything but respect your opinion whether they agree or not. You obviously care and that’s a good thing. I would say they have released multiple versions at varying price points in all fairness. I guess m lucky as I haven’t had any QC issues on my Gibson’s but that’s my experience.
      In terms of the V what price point would be okay in your mind? Honest question. It costs a lot to develop a one off and they only made 50. Only 49 of those get sold as #1 goes to AJ himself. I assume a non-aged version will come out at some point too but who knows.
      Lastly, if they can sell them for $20k why wouldn’t they? If I owned a business I’d sell my products at market value. No one buys them then the market drops. For me, the argument isn’t for these one off collector editions it would be for their standard series. If they are charging too much their inventory will pile up and they will have to meet the market where it is.

      @@edtlonsway I was also very lucky with both of the Gibson's i've bought being 2 good examples, great even. But i've also played more than my fair share of Gibsons that were objectively bad guitars, a murphy lab 58 korina flying V being the worst offender.
      I believe the super limited artist murphy lab customs shouldn't go for much more than a grand or two higher than a standard murphy lab, because at the end of the day that's what they are, just as recreations of someone's specific guitar, they aren't any better quality than any other murphy lab, because the murphy lab is already Gibson's top of the top of the line. So I can understand those super exclusive guitars going for like $10k-ish max, but $20k or $50k? That's literally a downpayment on a house, it just becomes blatant greed at some point.
      And you're right, what's depressing is they'll list them for what people will pay for them, because everyone still buys the "it's inflation" story that's been proven to be a scapegoat for giant corporations blatantly price gouging, or "greedflation" as the kids call it. And that's what's got me so peeved, is Gibson, this brand that i've idolized for most of my life, is the brand in the guitar world that's hands down been the most egregious with it, with these $1500 epiphones and brand-new-car-priced pipe-dream customs. it's pretty damn disappointing.

      @@DenDenBMX I hear you and don't disagree other than the fact I don't see it as greedy but what the market would bear. If we were talking about a painting I beleive the conversation would be much different. I beleive the fact is these ARE made for collectors then they release less resource intensive peices to the "masses."
      In complete agreement that if you are paying for a premium product that it should be up to spec or replaced. No question there. They take enough duds back they will clean up their QC.

    Honestly, it would be sick if Gibson was back on the cutting edge. Fuck coasting on legacy models that are 60-70 years old. I guess it's safer to do that kind of experimenting with Epiphone first but still, when was the last time they really went crazy with a design?

      The issue is that every time they've tried innovating they've done it very poorly and other companies (PRS, ESP, SIRE, etc) have already had modernized versions of the classic Gibson shapes for decades.

      I’m curious as to why you think that. Even when I bought my Epiphone G400 Custom in 2006, it was the same price as the same price new as a Gibson SG Faded. High end Epiphone and low end Gibson prices have overlapped for over a decade

    • @lopezomoza

      @@agufish I think the new collaboration between Epiphone and the Custom Shop with Gibson headstocks could break the Gibson Tribute segment. Plus the new Gibson Modern Lite seems like the effort to redefine the new entry level for Gibson USA. I have also heard from other youtubers that Maestro by Gibson could become the new entry level before Epiphone and Maestro might get reamped?

    Calling the same guitar with a different finish modern is kind of hilarious to me, it's kinda like hitting a Ford Model A with a rattle can and trying to market it as a smart car from my perspective.
    Say what you want about the Moderne but if I saw that thing in the 60s or 70s (or even today if the design wasn't previously established) I wouldn't question that it was trying to seem modern. I would probably question the headstock tho.
    I really wish the Moderne body style took off, if it had a flying V headstock it would be sooo appealing to me. You don't play the headstock but that Y shape doesn't only look goofy, seems like it would be as bad or worse as far as tuning stability as normal books. I always thought they really shot the Moderne in the foot out of the gate by suggesting that nonsense shape.

  • @PeterMoore350
    @PeterMoore350 Před 7 měsíci +1

    Not a fan of the V’s headstock. It’s ugly as and just screams tuning instability. Pickup selector location is gonna be a nightmare to play live. The colour scheme? I don’t mind it actually and thank gawd it doesn’t have a scratch plate/pickguard on it. Not for me. Give me a Solar V1.6 any day of the week.

    @HandOfMetal Před 7 měsíci +1

    Man, that Adam Jones Flying V is something else... That headstock has to be one of the ugliest ever made, challenged only by Fender's Parallel Maverick's headstock. And there's no way that string pull angle is good for intonation.

    A lot of Gibson's at this point will set you back 2-3K despite the fact that they come with standard hardware and nothing nessesarily special about them other than the name on the headstock. For £1200 you can get a guitar of higher quality and with better hardware, honestly i wish gibson would just do something different and not stick to the exact same models for the next 30 years.
