You are such a blessing. We are using MWC level 1 and hit the last unit and are at a stand still. My daughter just doesn't have the needed addition and subtraction facts down fluently. I have felt super defeated and anxious. But I think we will just take a break (because heaven knows we need it) and work solely on those facts over the summer then regroup and finish the last unit at the beginning of next school year. Trying to remember that this is the blessing of homeschooling...being able to slow down when needed! Also, I love your idea of prepping the warm up stuff first. I never thought of it and honestly...getting the warm up and having to find things or write things down stresses me out! Gonna try the notebook.

We use math with confidence, and I skip all that beginning reading you mention at 23:50. I only read the stuff for the lesson, and even then I skip it if my kiddos know how to do it. Lol.

Thank you for sharing! My oldest of 4 is doing first grade work this year and I love your videos! We did MWC K but switched to Math Mammoth for first because I was worried MWC would be too hard to keep up with once my other kids were school age.
My brain works the same as yours apparently. It’s so hard for me to look at black and white instructions. Like, I hate it. 🤣

I do the same with my instruction manual. Not the highlighting which I may start doing. But I go through it and decide what to skip and what to teach. I love the notebook idea!! I may utilize that as well. Total time saver!

I wish the teacher guide had more color as well. I’m like you, the black and white just spaces me out kind of. Hard to concentrate on.
I agree with you about the creative writing section. We did it, but my son did not enjoy it.He is doing a grade level above his grade, so im not sure if maybe that has something to do with him not wanting too.We might skip those this time around. If you find something better, please share. Thanks

I am the same way with color vs black and white!
We are completely moving away from TGTB this year as I’ve found out (finally) that it’s just NOT working for my oldest.
My biggest draw back from changing though was the COLOR CODING! I’m such a visual learner and I literally color code my whole life- and going from that to black and white terrifies me as the teacher!

We're gonna start using IEW. I'll mention more about that in my 4th grade video. 😁
I hear you on the Math with Confidence! It is a phenomenal math program….IF you can implement well. 😅 For me, it was too much trying to do MWC curriculum with multiple children. I totally get the book not being visually friendly as you are trying to teach/implement the lessons. I had to put it down and do something else. However, it really is a fantastic curriculum for conceptual learning of math concepts. If you can make it work, it’s definitely worth it but for me, it created too many friction points and I need a “smoother ride” for math curriculum.
YES! He loves it so much so I'm just trying to push through it. I love doing the lessons with him.... it just takes my brain a while to grasp it all. What math did you end up going with?
@@PursuingPeace I have been using Masterbooks math with my older two kids for over 4 years now with great success. After trying Kinder MWC for a couple months this year I just had to decide to go back to what I know…Masterbooks. So I’m starting Masterbooks math K with my two youngest this year for 1st grade and 3rd grade (my third grader has significant delays). My 1st grader will probably fly through K and then I will move right into level 1 with him.
I really do love Masterbooks. It can get a bad reputation but I have found that there is plenty of review and practice for my kids through all the levels. It really does work well for my older two and I suspect it will work well for my younger two too.
I couldn’t manage the MWC, but if you can, and your son is enjoying it and learning, it truly is an AMAZING math curriculum!!!

Hi, I was just wondering if Math With Confidence has grown on you yet or if the jury is still out 😊. We've used it for 2 years now, but I still don't love the instructor guide. We just started grade 2, and I'm hoping at this level it may get easier to implement.
Hi! Well, I still don't like the instructor's guide, but my boy LOVES it and is learning a lot! I've been looking for something else but haven't found anything I think will work. So I'm just truckin' through. I will say....it has gotten a little easier to follow now that I know the layout well. 😊
@PursuingPeace It's great to hear it gotten a little easier for you! My daughter also loves it and is learning so much. Every few months, I pour over other programs (and have purchased several 😬😄), but I still can't justify switching. I really prefer a worktext style program like TGTB or Apologia Math, but my daughter doesn't like those programs as well. Thanks so much for the update!
I just love your content! You are so joyful and kind. What a wonderful mother you are. You shine your light for all to see. My son just finished level 2 of TGATB math. We are switching to MWC this year. He is very good at math and understands all the concepts from level 2 very well, but does not have the mental math abilities that MWC teaches in level 2 (like he is not able to easily add 83 + 58 mentally). When I read what your child should know before starting MWC level 3, that skill is on there. That is the only skill that he does not have. It says there is review at the beginning of level 3, so you know if there would be enough review of that at the beginning of level 3 to teach him? He does catch on to concepts quite quickly. Or do you think it would be best to start at level 2? Thank you!

Could I use the spelling book by itself, with a different curriculum I have chosen?
That's a great question. The only thing is that you wouldn't know which words to dictate to your child if you didn't have the course book.
I was wondering the same thing. Good thing the curriculum is free online to find out those dictation words.
I got the MWC Kindergarten book for my girl to start this year based on all of the wonderful reviews I read and I want to love it, but I just can’t. 😂😂😂 We use TGATB for language arts and I love it so much and maybe it’s just because this is different. I don’t like the instructor’s manual. What’s keeping me going with it is that I’ve seen many comments that the retention is better with this than TGATB and also my daughter loves it. She isn’t complaining about it, so that’s a win. 🤪
I completely understand that! The only reason I'm still using it is because my boy likes it. I wish the teacher's manual was easier to use though. 🥴

We will also switch to math with confidence from tgtb. I'm super excited to give it a try! We are using her math that sticks addition and subtraction this summer to get the facts down. I feel like tgtb jumped around too much.

@@Mare00711 I always recommend to start earlier in the curriculum than you think. You can always skip or fly through the lessons he already knows. But I was surprised how much he had missed and I'm happy we started from the beginning. ❤️
